The Groves is made up of three separate buildings which surround the courtyard car park. York House and The Cottage are located to the rear of the main building. All bedrooms refurbished 2009/2010. The main building was built in the late 1800's and still retains many original features such as the splendid reception staircase, leaded windows, and many of the original wood features. The hotel provides free breakfast to its guests. The hotel has no smoking policy. Please note The Groves does not have a lift - there are asmall number of ground floor rooms but please request these BEFORE booking!
The Groves Rooms
- Loft - Suite
- Loft Suite offers one superking bed. Bootham 'Loft' Suite is located to the rear of the main building in a new extension. Lots of lovely touches such as the Super King Size Double bed, two separate seating areas, one for dining, and another L shaped leather sofa area to watch the 50inch HDTV and minibar. Separate bathroom and wc. Dorma windows to give light. Air conditioning and heating. Plus other features only availble in this room. Extra single bed available for an additional 30 per night.
- Standard - Double
- Standard Small Double rooms feature a UK standard 4foot 6inch Double Bed. These rooms all have private facilities (shower) ensuite and have everything provided (toiletries, towelling etc.). A 32inch Freeview TV is standard as is the hospitality tray of tea & coffee. Wi-Fi is accessible in most bedrooms (subject to a small charge). These rooms are great value for short stays in York.
- Moderate - Double
- Moderate Doubles feature a UK standard 4foot6inch Double Bed. Similar to the Standard Double however these rooms generally offer more comfort with a separate seating area and fixtures and fittings of a higher standard. All have private facilities (shower) ensuite and have everything provided (toiletries, towelling etc.). A 32inch Freeview TV is standard as is the hospitality tray of tea & coffee. Wi-Fi is accessible in most bedrooms (subject to a small charge).
- Standard - Single

- Triple rooms each have three standard UK single beds in the room. Well proportioned rooms, both located in York House. Wi-Fi is accessible in most bedrooms (subject to a small charge).

- Family rooms each accommodate up to three people in a standard UK single bed and a standard UK Double bed (4foot6inch) both located in the same room. Well proportioned rooms, located on the first and second floors of the main building (no lift!). They have private facilities (shower) ensuite and have everything provided (toiletries, towelling etc.). A 32inch Freeview TV is standard as is the hospitality tray of tea & coffee. Great place to stay
Lovely place to stay when visiting York. About a 20 minute flat walk to city centre shops and cathedral. Good breakfast, friendly service. Hotel was full when we visited and car park was also a bit tight when full. Our room was second floor and there is no lift... Make sure you request ground floor room when booking if it's needed... I forgot! Great place, a larger than average b&b.

Short walk from hotel
Visit the treasurers house round the back of the cathedral, owned by the national trust and worth a visit. Good for lunch or tea and cake!

The Groves is a very nice small
The Groves is a very nice small hotel. We spent 2 nights in July '10 here and found it a very pleasant experience. There is a main building and 2 annexes with more rooms across the car park (no charge during your stay). One of our party had a 2nd floor room in the main building and the other 2 were in one of the annexes. We found that the main building room was smaller than that in the annexe but both were quite adequate for a short stay. Obviously, room sizes vary so our experience may not be typical. The breakfast choices were excellent, from a full English to a continental, as was the breakfast itself. There is a small bar, open till around 11.00pm, at normal pub prices and a lounge to relax in. Staff were all friendly, polite and very helpful. The hotel is located in a quiet side street and it's a 10-minute stroll to the city walls and Minster, 15 mins to the centre. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for a short, or even a longer, stay in York.

Das traditionsreiche Hotel
England hat eine ungewohnte Kälte, einige Hotels und auch Ladengeschäfte waren darauf schlecht vorbereitet. Der Heizkörper im Zimmer des Hotels wurde erst mit unserem Erscheinen aufgedreht, es dauerte lange, bis es warm wurde. Alles andere war jedoch ganz nach unseren Erwartungen.
