From the A64 join the A1036 for West York and follow the signs for the city centre. Continue on this road until you come to a traffic lighted junction and the city walls are directly in front of you. This is the entrance to Micklegate. Continue down Micklegate to the bottom and the hotel is situated on the left hand side.

This is a relatively new hotel and on first glance, I thought our room looked nice. On second, third, etc.. glances, I saw the flaws; spots on the ceiling, the smell of urine in the bathroom, mold in the shower, small worthless pillows.
Most of
the staff was quite helpful, but the one lady we seemed to get more often than not barely wanted to answer my questions. First she wanted to charge us 10 pounds to check-in 45 minutes early. We spent the money on beer at a local pub instead. And then, she wouldn't hold our luggage for us so we had to cart it around in the rain while we waited.
When we finally did check-in, she claimed we had a double-bed room and if not, we could join the 2 singles. Neither was true. The 2 singles did not physically join, we could simply roll them next to each other. Plus, we were put in the disabled room, which meant no sofa and just a bunch of empty space in that part of the room.
While the rest of the staff was superb, this lady effectively ran away from me when I was unable to use the "free" WiFi (note to you all, there probably isn't really any and if there was, I couldn't find it). I ended up having to pay for the "premium" WiFi.
She also claimed that the place wouldn't accept post for guests, while I had already talked with the hotel manager who was very helpful and told me that they'd gladly hold post for me.
In any case, that's about what I'd expect from this level of housing. If they fire that one girl and clean the rooms up a bit harder, it would be a very good value for the money.

Excellent location, good value for money
The hotel is a typical Travelodge, i.e. no special amenities but a comfortable room with the necessary basics.
All the sights are within easy walking distance and the train and coach stations are only 10 minutes walk away. There is a suoermarket
next door and a Tesco Eexpress 3 minutes walk away.
