The hotel itself was fine, but two mornings of my stay had no hot water. The hotel said they were having problems with their hot water heater, which is going to happen, but they did not offer any recourse for going two days with no shower. This was very troublesome since I was leading a conferene there, and had members from around the state who were not happy.

Our room was quiet and comfortable. The desk was helpful and lunch in the restaurant was good. They offered a 4:30 ride to the airport (free!) for our 6 AM plane. We'd stay there again if in Sitka. It was close to good galleries and the museums.

Got what I paid for.

Asked for a non smoking room on my reservation, but I was given a smoking room the first night I was there, but I was so tired after a day of traveling, that I just dealt with it. I was kinda shocked to find out that there were still hotels that you could smoke in. The staff was Super nice when I asked to change rooms though. The hotel I slightly off the beaten path, but still close enough that it wasn't an issue. I think I would have been much happier paying $30 less a night.

I have not been back in Sitka, Alaska in 7 years. When I arrived I was hesitant of the hotel and wanted to quickly move to another hotel. Surprisingly my stay was genuinely great. The staff was very informative and helpful. What the hotel lacks in business convenience, It makes up for in cleanliness and helpful customer service. Like my sisters say " you didn't come into town to stay in the hotel, Get off your butt and enjoy small town wonders even if its only 14 miles of road." I enjoyed my time. I hope you will as well.

Well, it is only Sitka afterall

The location was great- right in the heart of downtown Sitka. you can walk to restaurants, shops and harbors. The rooms were small and rather plain, for the price it wasn't well appointed and it's an older hotel that could really use a bit of spiffing up. The dining room located in the same building but not part of the hotel itself was o.k. and for the area, reasonably priced. All in all the Shee Atika was clean and served it's purpose well.

The staff was friendly, and the room was clean and comfortable. We arrived after midnight, and only had one day to spend in town, so had to check out before heading off to sight-see, so looked forward to our complimentary breakfast. When we entered the breakfast room, found no hot food, as is often offered at other hotels. I am not a coffee drinker and was dismayed to find the juice dispenser was out of order, and no alternative juice source offered. That left milk, but only one type was offered, and I am not accustomed to drinking anything above 1% milk fat, so had to forego cereal as well. There was no fruit available, leaving only toast and cold water for me. Prior to booking, we had read a review stating that the staff was very accomodating with providing transportation. Our trip had us arrive by ferry, which they did not provide transport for, costing us $16 to ride a shuttle bus in late at night. They did provide a ride to the airport however, but even though it was quite close, they had set times to provide drop-offs and pick-ups, so we did not really get to choose our schedule. When we asked staff about local attractions, they handed us a map of town, but failed to tell us about available free transportation, causing us to walk several miles round-trip to see the raptor rescue center.

This 3-level Alaskan-style all-cedar home is located in a quiet neighborhood just 1 block from the seashore and Tongass National Forest. The property has 2 guest rooms and 1 suite. Private phones, and cable TV/VCR are in all guest rooms along with down comforters, cotton terry robes, large spa towels and spa slippers. For the business traveler, an IBM computer, laser printer, copier and fax are available. Guests awake to the wonderful aroma of fresh baked goodies and fresh ground coffee. Included with your room is a delicious hot breakfast which may consist of any of the following: cinnamon rolls, muffins, bread, sausage, ham, steak, bacon, eggs, hash browns, waffles, German, American or Alaskan sourdough pancakes, blintzes, French toast, eggs benedict, quiche, milk, fruit and juice. Breakfast is generally served at a time convenient for the current guests. A wonderful continental breakfast is available in the wee hours of the day for the early risers. A patio Jacuzzi and a wonderful Alaskan library of videos, books, magazines, maps and brochures are available. Smoking is prohibited indoors.
