Lacking some basic necessities

I booked this room because of the good reviews that I read on Orbitz, but was very disappointed on my trip. Upon first entering my room, I noticed water staining on parts of the ceiling. Then, as I tried to take a shower, I realized that I could not get hot water. The hotel sent up a facilities worker and our hot water was restored within a half hour. In the meanwhile, I noticed several other problems with the room, including: several lamps did not actually have lightbulbs, we were only left with about 1/4 roll of toilet paper, and the sheets were stained/dirty! I've ranked this hotel a 2, despite the terrible experience with my room, because the hotel breakfast and common areas were quite nice.

Great location and staff

The staff, except the omelet chef, was superb!! The breakfast was still exceptional. However, the shower head was not secure, had water all over the bathroom, it was fixed the second day. There was a big hole in our bathroom door and the bar that serves as the safety lock on the main door was ripped off. We just placed a chair in front of the door as added safety. We had a very pleasant stay overall.

7 on a scale of 1 to 10

Kudos to Embassy Suites in Montgomery for their courteous and accommodating staff. However, the down side was the cleanliness and the lack of attention requested from housekeeping regarding a few things in the suite that did not work. The entire hotel had a slight odor of dirt. Perhaps it was a residual odor from the open restaurant in the atrium or the food served in the mornings, but it permeated the air even in the rooms. The outside of the windows needed washing as the dirt impeded the view. In addition, the requests for a remote control that worked properly was ignored. The courtesy and helpfulness of the staff almost made these things superfluous. Would I stay there again? Yes, I suppose I would, as the options in Montgomery are limited. One upside was that Embassy Suite guests have access to the Capital City Club for dining. This is an experience no one should miss who loves elegance and great food.

Dining at the Renaissance Hotel across the street was impressive. The food was elegantly prepared and delicious. Avoid the seafood place around the corner unless you just cannot resist a passel of grease.

Hot Room

The air-conditioning never worked the first night and it was impossible to sleep due to the heat and humidity in the room. I had the Building Engineer perform the appropriate repair on the unit the following evening only to have it fail again at 1 in the morning. Again, too hot to sleep. Loved the breakfast and the happy hour. Personnel were all very nice and the room was clean and as promised with the exception of the AC unit. The hotel was all booked out so I could not be moved to a room where the air-conditioned was operating.

The decline was sad to see

My husband and I have stayed at the Embassy Suites in downtown Montgomery at least a dozen or more times. This visit last Wednesday night will be our last. When my husband and I went to the sink (in the bathroom) to brush our teeth, a cockroach was running around in the sink. Unacceptable at any hotel; the paint around the doors was peeling, and overall in need of maintenance. The hotel is nothing like it used to be.

good game day stop-over

We have stayed at this hotel several times on the way home from late college football games. They are very good at holding the room for our late arrival. The lobby is very nice, and the staff is friendly and helpful. Because the rooms are suites, there is a lot of space... this is especially good when traveling with kids. The rooms are also quiet and clean. On this last trip, I noticed that the bathroom seemed a little run down, but not dirty. The full service breakfast that is included with your stay is wonderful...especially the omelets!
