Basin Park
Location was great in scenic downtown ES. Free shuttle to the Crescent Hotel (good breakfast buffet) and other stops was excellent; quick courteous service. Wireless internet was very disappointing; did not work at all; no help from front desk. Quaint hotel but don't expect a totally modern room. Plenty of room; no vanity; funky shower.

Crescent Hotel has a good breakfast buffet in a beautiful old dining room that is actaully less expensive that the ala carte cafes downtown. The shuttle will take you there for free.

Magnuson Grand, Eureka Springs
You can't beat the location of the Magnuson Grand, right smack dab in the middle of downtown Eureka Springs, bordering Basin Park and surrounded by all the shopping you could need. It's quiet and cozy enough with a very pleasant staff, and I can't say we didn't enjoy our stay, but the initial impression of the room did not live up to expectations, and I'm not swayed by the facts that the room was expensive and someone carried our bags up for us to write a positive review. Our suite was very quaint (a very appropriate adjective for the hotel) and comfy enough, but my first feeling was disappointment, because we had chosen a Jacuzzi Suite and the picture on their website is very misleading. In their picture a giant, new Jacuzzi sits conspicuously right in the middle of a spacious room, while ours was in reality nothing more than a very old, dingy, albeit spacious tub with jets back in the bathroom. The carpet was damp, and I suspect this was because the windows don't open and it was a Jacuzzi Suite making lots of humidity. We had a relaxing trip, but the Magnuson Grand may be falling behind the times. In retrospect, parking in downtown Eureka Springs is only 5 dollars a day, so location can be considered irrelevant, and we saw many intriguing places to stay on the way into town, especially small cottages (take a look at The Grand Treehouse Resort right outside of town, which surprisingly goes for a similar rate per night to our Jacuzzi Suite at Basin Park). I should probably also add that we did not take advantage of the spa in the hotel, and if that is what you are after that is certainly a beneficial amenity, and perhaps renting a Spa Suite with access to a sundeck and hot tub in season might make a difference. On another note, I can't recommend the Mexican restaurant Casa Colina enough. (Found on the way into downtown) The queso was fantastic.

Casa Colina is a mexican restaurant found on the street into downtown. We liked everything from the quick service to the queso down to the fact that they put my beer in an interesting glass with salt on it.

The good, the bad, and the really ugly
We checked into the Basin Hotel and immediately checked out. The bed was sunken in the middle (worn out) and a dresser drawer was broken. Almost as soon as we entered the room a man unlocked our door (without knocking)and entered. He claimed to work for the Hotel??? However, the Basin agreed to refund our money and we moved to the Crescent Hotel. The help at both hotels were very curteous. Again, the Crescent Hotel bed was very uncomfortable (worn out). The food was over priced and we felt that the hotel was over priced considering the condition of the hotel. We could not get on the internet. We do not intend to ever stay in the Basin Hotel again.

Not what you would expect
Our first room was on the corner of the hotel with a nice round bay window. Unfortunately there were NO curtains or blinds and there were 2 spot lights aimed almost directly in our windows. Upon requesting a new room from the front desk we saw an additional 3 rooms, each of which was smaller, darker and less attractive than the next. In the end we chose our original room and just slept with pillows over our heads to block out the light. Additionally there was a dump truck/garbage truck/street cleaning crew out front of the hotel by ~8am EVERYDAY we stayed here. This of course woke us up every morning at 8am. To make matters worse Saturday night there was a wedding reception occurring directly below our room until ~1am at which point a few of those guests adjourned to the room directly ABOVE us and continued celebrating. Having already seen what most of the rest of the rooms (of the same size/amenities as ours) looked like we had little choice but to weather it out.

Spend your first hour or so acclimating yourself to the layout of downtown. There is a highway located at the start of Main St which, if followed, leads to the REST of town. Because GPS works so poorly here your best bet is maps and an adventurous spirit.

Nice, Historic Hotel
We love the history of this old hotel in Eureka Springs. It does have an awesome location and a great Balcony resturant, and great game room on top. It is old, built in 1905, but if you love history and old hotels, then this would be your hotel.

Basin Park Hotel
I liked the creepy factor. There was only one old small elevator. Great service at the wedding reception I was attending. Check-in was a little hassle because of limited space in downtown. The loading zone for checkin and out is ACCROSS the street from the front door. Keep that in mind, or you will get griped out. Nice bars and restaurant on the first and seventh floor, and great reception areas. Hotel is super close to the shopping and nightlife. Great place to ghost hunt probably!

Nice Historic Atmosphere
Best location in Eureka Springs, close to action and close to the fun. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. My only complaint was that the decorating of the rooms (paint, tile, small updates) were at least 20-30 years old. If some time was spent on upgrades this place would rock!
