The hotel caters to individuals who are going to UAMS for medical care. They go over and above what I expected. The shuttle service was outstanding. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Strategic Location

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are not quite as nice as what I'm accustomed to but are ok. I had gotten a quote at the Hilton and they wanted a very high price for a twin bed and it's only a few blocks from this hotel. The Hilton wouldn't budge on their price preferring to have empty rooms than to accept my reasonable offer. But that's ok, it's not my loss since I'm the one who holds the money and it's a buyers market in the slow hotel business in a slow economy. Not sure what's going on with Hilton because in Chicago, Memphis and St Louis I've gotten Hilton hotels and others just as nice or nicer for a hundred dollars or under even during Christmas. Anyway, I felt the Hilton was far too overpriced. I found this place which has basically all the same amenities as the Hilton and paid sixty under their price and I got a king bed too! I'm a student so I would say this is a good value for the money. So if you're considering the Hilton there are other far better values in Little Rock. Just shop around. If a hotel won't give you a fair deal, keep looking for a hotel that is willing to work hard to earn your business such as the Markham House Suites.

There will be NO repeat stay for me!

I was NOT impressed!!! For the cost of this hotel, it should have been MUCH better! We were there for a doctor appointment at the medical university. The location was perfect and the area appeared to be very safe. HOWEVER, after an exhausting 9 1/2 hour drive the day before, we were awakened at 7:30 a.m. by loud scraping on the floor above us. Promptly at 8:00 a.m., they began hammering. It was obvious they were renovating the 2nd floor. I called the front desk and spoke with the manager, and she apologized, saying that someone should have made us aware of the renovations, and offered to move us to another room (this hotel has two buildings). I declined to move, as we were already set up in our room (traveling with my 73 year old mother and 14 year old autistic child, we had a lot of stuff), and the damage was done - we were already awake. The same thing happened the second (and thankfully, last) day of our stay - loud scraping at 7:30 a.m. and hammering at precisely 8:00 a.m. When I checked out to leave, the manager again apologized but also said, "It HAS to be done" with a bit of an attitude. It was clear to me that she was offering 'lip service'. I can't believe they would actually book rooms in a building they are renovating when they had a second, separate building of rooms. There were not very many vehicles in the parking lot, so I imagine they weren't full. This hotel was ok, but I wouldn't stay there again even if this had not happened. It was rather expensive, and the room was very small; my mom, my son and myself were constantly tripping over each other if more than one of us was walking around at the same time. The shower curtain was a little slimy and the room did not smell clean. There was a sidewalk along the outside of the building that was wet, and all 3 of us (at different times during our stay) slipped and almost fell. My mother has osteoporosis; nothing else needs to be said on that. This was also mentioned upon checkout, and the manager gave me a nod and a "we'll check on that". The slippery place on the sidewalk was not new - it had been there for a while, so I imagine they already knew about it. On a good note, the employee working the front desk when I checked in was absolutely wonderful. We did not participate in the free breakfast, so I cannot comment on that.

Average stay - Wonderful breakfast

I stayed at Markham House Suites while attending an interview at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. The location is perfect because it is close to UAMS, and the breakfast definitely saved the day. Otherwise, the hotel is an average place to stay.
