Days Inn Summer 2010

  • Ed
  • 23 Aug 2010
We stayed here before our train ride to the Grand Canyon. We booked one night through [...] and prepaid. When we called the hotel to add a second night, they would only do so at the rack rate and not the[...] rate. I called [...] and found I couldn't add a night to my reservation, I had to book a whole new reservation. This was very annoying and time consuming. At the hotel they wanted me to come back in the morning and re-register for the second night. The clerk was rather unprofessional when I said that wasn't a good idea. Fortunately, another clerk said she'd take care of it. The indoor pool is off the lobby and the entire lobby smelled of chlorine. Not too good. A curtain was torn in the room which should have been fixed and the beds were extremely uncomfortable. Otherwise the hotel was fine for a short stay.

Ok for the money, but......

  • Carl
  • 17 Oct 2010
We made the reservation for 2 nights. When we arrived to check in, the desk employee said our reservation was for a smoking room. We made the reservation for a non-smoking room. There were no non-smoking rooms available. We went in the smoking room and knew right away that it would make us sick. We told the desk employee that we could not stay there and would go find another motel. That's what we did and we had to pay a premium price for a room elsewhere because of the late hour. The desk employee said she would try to get us a non-smoking room for the second night. She followed through on this and we did stay there the second night. She was very accomodating. The room was satisfactory for the price. [...]

The staff was friendly and gave us excellent suggestions that improved our Grand Canyon experience. The only drawback was the fact that the restaurant was closed on the Sunday and Monday, the two nights we stayed there and we did not know this before hand. Both days we were too tired to go into town to look for a restaurant and the only choice for dinner was pizza hut delivery. We would have liked better meals.

Everyone was friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and the beds were comfortable. Surprisingly, our room was located near the railroad and it was very quiet. Breakfast was available at the railroad cafe for a reasonable price. Everything in the buffet you can image. Along with made to order egg omelets. Plenty of dining options within walking distance of the hotel. Also, plenty of parking space available. Pet hotel available if you had pets and wanted to ride the train to the Grand Canyon.

There is absolutely no name of the hotel at the premises. If you didn't have the address you would never find it. The buffet there was below average and food was almost tasteless. Not the place to eat unless you don't have transportation to go elsewhere.

It is what it is

  • Esob
  • 22 Aug 2010
Stayed on night to get a early start out to the grand canyon. This place is exactly what it is, a place to hang your hat for the night. The lady at the front desk made me feel like a felon. When checking in she grilled me on how many people are staying in the room, I said just me and my wife. She replied with some sort of comment about that we have to declare everyone, implying that I was lying. Then she went on that say that if anything is missing or taken from the room she will charge my credit card. How insulting. Hey lady I am staying the week in a suite at MGM for the week in Vegas and I am going to take something from your sh*tty little motel in podunk AZ. If you can get past the lie detector test, it will work for a night.

Lesson Learned

  • Disappointed
  • 4 Jul 2011
My first impression of the hotel and the room was disappointing. There were few amenities and I never did find the ice machine. When I checked in the person at the front counter could not believe how much we had payed for the little room were to spend the next 2 nights in. He said we should have called the hotel directly and that would have saved us a lot of money. I made the reservations at the last minute so I went to [...]and apparently really over paid. The room was clean and comfortable but nothing fancy. The beds were on what looked like poorly home-made wooden platforms. The A/C worked well. We decided to stay 2 more nights and went to a nearby hotel where we paid far less for a much better room with pool and other facilities.

On a tight budget, on our way home to California, we just needed a place to lay our heads. Although the staff isn't the friendliest of people, we had a good night's rest at an affordable rate. It is an average motel, nothing really special about it so if you're like us and need a cheap place to stay, The Westerner works fine.

It was a good and clean hotel. Location is very good when traveling to Grand Canyon. Staff was very friendly. I would say this hotel was slightly above average for hotels of this level.

Nice for the Price

Wanted a lower level room so one of the only ones available was buy pool in back of hotel...It was extremely NOISEY, as you could hear everyone going up and down the stairs to the upper level of hotel...obviously, not very well insulated...otherwise room was okay...would have been nice to have a coffee maker in rooms and they did not supply shampoos or such!!! Could not get our laptop connected to their internet either....oh well, was just passing through anyway!!

Our family stayed in the hotel on a trip to ride the Grand Canyon Railway Polar Express. The hotel seemed clean, but the rooms were very simple. There was not an alarm clock, hair dryer, or other items that are commonly found in many hotel rooms. However, the price was well worth going without those few ammenities for a night. The staff was friendly and the rooms were quiet. There was nothing really to complain about.

I would not stay there again. The location was too far from the Grand Canyon.

Mainly stay there for grand canyon hiking...did not really care about the motel...room just OK, you can here the noise while stepping onto the old wooden floor...AC/heater fine, shower head gives small water flow, but still tolerable

The reviews helped me choose

Great service, modern on the inside.Very clean, continental breakfast, flatscreen tv, great value. We chose this location based on it being wthin 45 min to the Gand Canyon. The other reviews are accurate: Small town with small town character in a nice way. We will choose to come back here when visiting the Grand Canyon again since the hotels around it are much more costly. I've stayed in other hotels and this is a better one.

Nice place

The rooms were very updated. Nice decor, comfortable beds, working heater new TV etc. The employees were very friendly as well. It had a great location and was easy to walk around the town. It did get loud at night due to the snow and the road cleaners. Don't let the outside scare you away the rooms were great. I am very picky when it comes to place to stay and I would stay here again with my family.
