Great Value for your Buck!

I was incredibly surprised with this hotel when I stayed. At first looks from the outside, you wouldn't imagine this hotel being so clean and nice inside. The customer service was friendly. For the low price, and what you get, it's one heck of a deal. Clean rooms, completely equipped with what you need, a really good breakfast better than at the "chain" hotels. And you are in downtown Bakersfield close to everything. I def recommend anyone in the area to stay here.

What a deal!

I’m a public defender and I come out to Bakersfield a lot for seminars and work. I’ve stayed at many other hotels here, but none like this place. The staff here were super friendly. They serve breakfast and I’m a big guy, but they had plenty, not to mention a waffle maker! All in all, I would choose this place again; it is comfortable, quaint, and I can actually afford it!

Needs better staff

The staff was stoned and drinking in the lobby with their friends when i arrived. Not the best impression. They also double billed me for my stay and were unresponsive when i tried communicating with them. The room was nicely decorated and comfortable BUT i found dirty tissues by the best. So not very clean. I probably wont stay here again.

This deal is a real steal!

My room was spacious, clean and quiet with a comfortable bed, cable tv, and organic bath products. Amenities also included a swimming pool, continental breakfast, and in-room mini-fridge and safe. The hotel staff were super friendly and very helpful to this first time visitor. The location was within walking distance to downtown, close to the Civic Center, and around the corner from Dewar's Ice Cream Shop. If you're looking for a great get away on the cheap, this is the place to stay.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Head to the Woolworth Diner in downtown Bakersfield for a burger and a shake, eaten to the tunes of Frank and Dino, served by friendly staff and surrounded by vintage and antique goods.

under renovation

Nice quiet stay. An older hotel that is under renovation and will eventually be totally redone. Bathrooms need some help as does the pool area (worn out and tattered furniture), but if you can look past this sort of superficial deficit it's definitely a bargain. The design work on the interior spaces is very tasteful and should be appreciated by all. Cleaning staff does a great job.

Not so bad

I didn't know what to expect but I was happy with what I got. The bad is that it is in a not so good area of town. Mostly bail bond offices, the city jail, and the police parking facility. The good, it was close to everything and accomodating. The facilities were ok, but the windows didn't lock (not good if you have valuables). It had a nice breakfast area that had free food and drink 24/7 so that was handy. It was quiet and close to all the downtown attractions. For the price I thought it was good, but I would not bring an inexperienced central city person to this area or hotel

Great hotel

The Guesthouse inn(formely Downtowner is a great luxury hotel for an affordable night in. Me and my husband were there for a concert at the Robobank arena and I picked this hotel because it was affordable and it was near the Robobank arena. It looked a little rusty on the outside but the hotel room was amazing! Free cable, had a iron, a place to hang our clothes and the bed was comfortable! Everything looked pretty clean and nicely organized; made us both feel like we were at home. I do believe they had a swimming pool available as well, sad to say we were only there for one night. Also, everything is nearby, even walking like me and my husband did. The Customer Service was really good and we will stay here again!

Not a great place to stay.

The sheets were very worn and pilled. The air conditioning didn't cool the room. It was warm and stuffy unto early in the morning. The breakfast was a joke. There was cereal and no milk. No juice. Waffle Mix but the waffle iron didn't work, wasn't hot or even warm. There was 2 danish. I didn't like the type either. When I checked out I did not get a recipt. When I questioned it she gave me a paper stateing the room as $49.00 but it was not a reciept. She said that who ever checked us in didn't do something she did'n have that right paper. I would not stay there again. I open the drapes to look out at a filthy window and window sill. Aso the pool and spa were closed.
