Very Friendly staff & Convenient Hollywood Location
I took my daughter and her friend on a road trip to California for her 18th birthday, and I choose this hotel for its price, the good reviews and convenient location only a block away from the major Hollywood landmarks. Upon checking in at the Magic Castle Hotel, the staff was extremely friendly, and they made sure we felt at home even though we were 1,500 miles from home (Texas). We were informed that we had been upgraded to a junior suite at the Magic Castle Hotel versus the Hollywood Hills Hotel which is a quarter of a mile up Sycamore Avenue from Franklin. I was really looking forward to the view overlooking LA, but I decided that this location would be more convenient for seeing Hollywood with kids. And besides, we were able to walk up the hill to see the awesome views. My daughter and her friend really enjoyed the free drinks and snacks that you can pick from a provided list. They even had free DVDs to choose from each day. My daughter commented over and over just how friendly the staff was at the Magic Castle. (Coming from a small Texas town, she was expecting Hollywood to be ‘snobby’. I personally found the staff and all people we encountered in Hollywood to be very friendly as well.) The rooms were cleaned thoroughly each day, and we were greeted with Andes chocolates and a note card each day letting us know what the weather would be. We enjoyed our time here very much.

Good location to Hollywood Blvd.
Staff was very helpful and obliging to your every need. Room was dated and could use up-dating. Was charged $11.00/day for parking that was not in the original quote. Not a big deal but the charge was a bit of a surprise. A ride was promptly provided for going up and down the hill which can be challenging for us older folks. No elevators available to our upper room. You must walk up the stairs with your bags. Wished I could have some way been provided access to the Magic Castle. This was quite a disappointment. All things considered it can be summed up: Excellent staff, average room, very good location.

Short walk from hotel
On afternoon of Kodak's Iris production $50.00 rush tickets are available. We found out 10 seconds too late. Ticket agents will take you. I asked what tickets were available and payed a lot more ! Ticket agent said, " Since I did not specify a rush ticket they did not have to tell me about them". They seemed to be proud of the fact they took you even though we were there at the time these tickets were available. Buyer beware!

Amazing Hotel
This hotel was one of the best I have ever stayed at. After confirming my reservation through the exceptional staff, I was welcomed to the hotel with a bag of snacks and a glass of sparkling cider for both my friend and I. The hotel is kind of spread out, but the staff did not hesitate for a single moment to taxi us around in their company vehicle anytime we wanted to move from our room to the entrance. Words cannot express how impressed I was with the staff at this hotel. They accommodated all of our needs for our stay, and I will be using this hotel for all future visits to Hollywood Blvd.

unique property, outstanding view!
This hotel is like no other that I have stayed in. You drive straight up a mountain from hollywood blvd and then climb stairs even further up and then you get to your room. My room, 306 had an amazing 180 view with a HUGE balcony. You can see all of hollywood, downtown LA, etc. The bed is new and comfortable, the toiletries are nice, but the bathroom, kitchen and living room could use some updating, or maybe just a thorough scrubbing. The old furniture and such is kind of what makes it so unique. If you like a chain hotel that always looks the same, this probably isn't for you. But if you have a sense of adventure and love a good view, this is your perfect hotel and a totally reasonable price. Parking is 1/3 the price that it is at other hotels too! The property is just so unique, I would absolutely stay here again.

An old, dingy and dilapidated apartment complex
I was attracted by the price and the location, and traveling without my wife I can often save money by staying in funkier locations she wouldn't stand for. I was in LA for a couple of days, had business in Hollywood and Burbank and needed a place to crash, saving the stress of driving another 150 miles round trip. The property it sits on is very historic, part of the grounds of the Yamashiro estate. It is an old apartment complex, very run down, quite awful. In fact it's so neglected it shouldn't be renting rooms. The Magic Castle hotel runs the place, but it really is hurting it's image with this dump up the hill. I've stayed in a lot of cheaper hotels and divier places along with 5 star resorts. So I've got a lot of experience in lodging. I like old places and old fashioned charm, but the HHH has none of that. Take if off the hill in Hollywood and put it in the worst gang infested section of LA and it wouldn't look out of place. Peeling paint, rotten wood, it looks like a total fire trap. Smelly room, noisy upstair neighbor, mildew and rust in the bathroom. The beds appeared clean and I didn't see any bugs or critters which I guess is a positive. No WiFi, but there is a cable modem with an ethernet cable which surprisingly worked well. The problem is you're tethered to no more than 2 feet from the TV cabinet where there is no chair. Finding the place is a huge hassle, I'm glad I didn't arrive tired and after dark I might still be wandering the hills. Of course the staff are nice, but your a quarter mile up a steep hill from the lobby and the rather fine Magic Castle hotel, which is where you should stay. I tried to move rooms, but wouldn't you know they were FULLY BOOKED. How convenient. I would AVOID the HHH at all costs.

Love this hotel
This was our third stay here, and we're already planning on going back. The staff is amazing, they give you free snacks and drinks (when you check in and check out), and the location can't be beat--right in the heart of Hollywood, near the Hollywood Bowl and shopping, and just a short drive to the Farmers Market/Grove, LACMA, and Griffith Park. The rooms are old and little shabby, but clean and quiet with great views of the city and the hills--and the Hollywood sign.

It really doesn't get much better
Absolutely loved this hotel - staff was super nice and helpful...room had an awesome view. Considering the location, amenities and the price, it's hard to beat...sure there are five star locations up in the Hills, but if you don't want to spend an arm and a leg, this is perfect . I was super happy with the room - had a nice kitchenette and everything was clean and really nice - building itself is older, but room is updated. The staff offered lots of unique touches to make the experience special (ie, when I was checking in, one of the guys at the concierge walked up and gave me a nice celebratory glass of non-alcoholic champagne...more for the gesture than the free drink, of course :) The pool was gorgeous (nice waterfall off to the side, gorgeous pagoda), view unparalleled...gated entry to hotel is right next to the front entrance of Yamashiro restaurant. And if you can, talk to the concierge about getting into the members-only Magic Castle (the hotel has a deal set up with them that allows hotel guests, space permitting), and it's a really fun experience. Definitely recommend the Hollywood Hills Hotel.

Nicest Hotel Staff You Will Ever Encounter
The views are amazing, the minibar is free, and the staff is the nicest you will ever meet at a hotel. My wife is pregnant and one day we had slept in and was going to miss breakfast. They brought it to our room since she didn't make it down instead. The rooms are large and sufficient, but everything else makes up for any room shortcomings. You also get admission to the magic castle which everyone says is amazing, just remember to bring a suit and tie for guys or a cocktail dress for ladies as it is required at the castle.
