Comfortable Place in Monterey
The bed mattress was the most comfortable that I have slept on. This was one of the reasons for returning to the Portola. Service was very good. Only complaint I have is the price value of the movies offered, I paid $17.99 to watch an average box office movie (the "Traveler") and the selection was very very limited. The pool was not heated and the water temperature was cold. Nice English pub a block away called the Crown and Anchor. Decent selection of ales on tap and good fish and chips.

Short walk from hotel
The walking path along the bay is less than 200 yards from the hotel and you walk for miles... It is also by the Wharf and 1.3 miles from the Aquarium.

We travelled with a 15 month old
We travelled with a 15 month old baby so the quality of the hotel was very important. Service was exceptional and room was lovely. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Portola hotel
The hotel is pretty nice but they nickel and dime you for everything. The internet is not free and neither is the parking. The rooms are pretty comfy though. Good job on that part. We went during 4th of July week which is not a good idea. I'd call this hotel a definite tourist money pit.

Short drive from hotel
Don't dine in. Drive up lighthouse road or google the internet you have to pay extra for and look for some good places to eat. The hotel charges double what other restaurants charge.

Hotel Stay in Monterey, CA
The hotel was great, however the only thing I had major problems with, was the parking fees. I paid over $100 in parking fees for only four days of staying at the hotel. If you are staying at the hotel, you should have free parking. There was almost 300 plus kids from junior high and high school staying there and the running around and screaming in the halls caused many sleepless nights. Other than that, I think the hotel was great. They reserved me a private room for my family for dinner and I sincerely appreciate that.

nice place to unwind
I stayed there once before on a business trip, so I knew what to expect. Rooms are very clean. The location is perfect for walking or short drives to Carmel or down the coast. Definitely more of a family atmosphere. Not a singles or young adults type of getaway.

When the weather is good, you must visit the Pacific Grove beaches. They are so beautiful. I had a lot of trouble leaving. If I could buy a home there, I would have done it that day.

good hotel, but overpriced
While I have nothing negative to say about the hotel besides price concerns, I think that I could have paid much less for a decent, upscale hotel. Next time I will consider the next door Marriott. The staff was helpful with several small requests we had. The room was near a restaurant which had parties late into Saturday night. The fitness room was useful with free weights and many aerobic machines available. Internet access was pricey, at $10 for 5 minutes. I ended up not using it during the trip. Location is excellent for Monterey.

Nice Stay
Very unreasonable when trying to make changes to reservation. Bathrooms could be larger. a bit overpriced for the room. People walking outside room were loud, kept me up.
