Good quiet place to get away

Overall, we liked the place. It is about 3 to 4 miles away from downtown Napa and that's exactly what we're looking for to get away from. The location is easy to get on the highway to the wineries. The first day we arrived and assigned a room in the main building. It is sort of an older building I guess. When we took a shower in the room, the hot water was not forthcoming easily and we essentially had a lukewarm shower. I spoke to the front desk and they upgraded us to a newer build 4. There everything went well. So ask for stay in the new building....

Beautiful View of Vineyards, Pool, Bocce, Firepits, Shuttle to Downtown Napa

We had wonderful experience at the Meritage Resort & Spa. My husband and I stayed on a Saturday night. Check in was quick and friendly. Although it was a bit of a walk to get there, the room had a great view of the vineyards. It was clean, comfortable, good temperature, quiet, stocked with a complimentary bottle of wine, water, tea and coffee. The pool area was gorgeous. Dramatic fire pit with lots of comfortable seating. Bocce ball courts, spa and wine tasting on property in a cave! The free shuttle downtown was a huge plus. We walked around downtown and had a delicious dinner at Angele, then called for a pick up. We didn't get a chance to try the modern cocktail bar/ bowling ally. Maybe next time. We'll definitely stay here again and get a balcony overlooking the pool and vineyards. I would highly recommend this hotel to my friends for a great value in wine country, just 15 minutes to downtown Napa.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

In downtown Napa, check out the Oxbow market. They have all sorts of great prepared and fresh food to choose from. We had a great breakfast -- potato scramble and egg and chirizo at C Casa. Try a carrot, ginger and lemon juice at Juicy to help you fight a cold or just to prevent one- fresh, bright and delicious. Modern bakery has amazing english muffins. Get in line and eat them while their hot!

Nice hotel, priced as expected

Nice hotel, not too fancy, not too expensive, if you have a nice view on the vineyard you will like it even more. Has a lot of facilities. You may want to avoid the restaurant, as there are much better places downtown for similar or cheaper.

Beautiful place

The staff here was very courteous, and made us feel welcome. Everything is beautiful, but I loved that there were lots of nooks and crannies throughout the resort to find a quiet spot to relax. The concierge was very helpful, and the maintenance folks were very responsive when our a/c needed to be reset. My only complaint would be that they could use some more powerful modems. The signal died once I got in the room. But there are worse things to do with your time than relax by a roaring fire in the lobby to check your email. I'd definitely go back. Make spa appointments early -- they didn't have any openings left when we got there. Their shuttle will take you downtown, so it's easy to get around.

Platypus tours gave us a great local tour of four small wineries. Great tour guide, comfortable transportation. It really was a great day. I'd definitely do it again.

Unremarkable Service, Bad Location

How's about a little service? The hotel is clean but everything else was mediocre at best. The service was below average compared to other venues in the area. There were 3 doormen and not one of them opened a single door, offered to help with luggage or acknowledged that we had entered the building. The front desk didn't go over any of the amenities and when we went to the concierge, they offered us a 90 minute sales pitch instead of assistance. The restaurant is not intimate and feels like a cafeteria. And if you're thirsty, pick up a drink at the bar before heading to the restaurant because it takes about 20 minutes to get a cocktail since there's no actual bar in the restaurant. Do yourself a favor and skip this one. It is not as advertised.

Not worth it...

I spent $500 a night for this room and was very disappointed. They gave me the wrong room keys and had to hunt me down to give me the right keys. It was very noisy, the carpet was dirty, food wasnt that great. You do get a "free" bottle of wine after you pay $500 for the night plus a $15 resort fee. Not impressed at all!

Nice, but not extraordinary

The kids liked the pool. But there were not enough chairs. The concierge tried to sell wine tours rather than to recommend specific wineries.

Napa Vacation

We took a day trip to San Francisco, visited multiple wineries and restaurants. We relaxed at the pool after the wineries, and visited the outdoor hot tub at night to warm up. We visited the spa for couples massage and spa treatments and did an onsite wine tasting. It was much better than we anticipated and we bought a case of their Trinitas wine. The room was great. We enjoyed the granite in the bathroom, double sink vanity, glass shower doors, private toilet area, small refrigerator and large closet.

Bring a small insulated bag and visit Oakville Grocery for a gourmet picnic lunch. Some wineries have picnic areas to enjoy your food after a tasting.
