Great Place to Stay
Staff friendly and informative. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good too and a great view from the balcony. Being in the Gaslamp district it was noisy at night especially on Saturday but the action was right at your finger tips. I didn't have any trouble sleeping. Lots of places to eat and people were friendly. Close to Hortons Plaza and other areas within walking distance. Great transportation as well.

Decor is very much "old 1920's hotel" which was fun. the suites are large, with small kitchen (dishes, microwave, refrid), pull out sofa and bed. The rooms on the front side of the hotel are noisy on weekend nights though. The breakfast (toast, cereal, etc) on the roof was a nice touch, and then have games and books there as well. Parking EXPENSIVE, but there are other options near by (although no in-out privlages except with valet). Right in gaslight, not far from the action. If you are at convention center is about 6 blocks, which was a bit far for kids to walk at the end of the day.

if you are coming in late, and will be out by 6 am, alot of the parking structures in businesses will offer 5$ parking on weeknights. You can park overnight for free as well, watch signs for which side is being cleaned overnight.

Gaslamp Plaza Suites
Before checking in, I called ahead to verify parking. The desk clerk was very confusing at stated that I would have to pay $28 for them to park my car in a public lot that would cost another $20 to leave my car in over night. Once I got to the hotel, I was able to use their valet service for $28 and they parked the car in an off-site, secure lot. The room was run-of-the-mill, with a small refrigerator and a small television. Having the couch in the room was nice...a bit like home. One major thing to consider when staying in downtown San Diego is that there is a bustling night life on Friday nights. The windows at the Gaslamp Suites had gaps between the panes of glass, so closing the windows did not completely reduce the noise from outside. We were able to get about 4 hours of sleep, once the noise died down around 2 a.m.

Gaslamp Plaza Suites
It's worth noting that we were in a room, not a suite; I'm not sure what the difference is--in price or size. However, our room was unbelievably small. It was smaller than our master bathroom at home. Literally. However, the location was perfect! We easily walked to Balboa park (about 2 miles, but in nice weather, why not?) and picked up a free shuttle to the Zoo. At night, we had everything we needed in Gaslamp. The best San Diego restaurants, best bars, everything. We were too tired to stay out late, but we couldn't hear a thing from the bustling downtown in our 4th floor room. Noise was _not_ a problem. In the morning, the free continental breakfast was terrible. Coffee was tasteless, there were two cereals to choose from, and two types of yucky pastries. Oh well. It was a very short walk from the hotel to Seaport Village (less than a mile). Location was great, room was tiny, and food was yucky. At least it was clean and staff was nice!

Bottom 5 per cent in all of SanDiego
Parking is a rip off, creaky hotel, that is clearly showing its age. The continental breakfast is not worth much. The noise from the gas lamp district was disrupting all night. Wifi is expensive. No amenities, except the aforementioned continental breakfast. Would not stay there again for free!

Great spot for the value
The room was clean and comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful, and the location great for both sightseeing in the downtown area and access to the trolley tour stop and public transportation. We particularly liked the rooftop breakfast area. A good place to stay. Would recommend it to others.

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
Take the 992 bus from the airport--$2.25. It lets you off on Broadway at 5th. The hotel is one block over on 5th and E street.
