Fun location

We arrived in San Diego well before check-in and they were able to get us in a room 2 hours early. The room was a good size w/ updated bathroom, flat screen TV, mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. The beds were comfortable and overall the room felt clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. This hotel is at the end of the Pacific Beach bar/restaurant stretch, so it was easy to walk to places but still on the quiet side. The beach at this point is down a small cliff, but it's only a 5-10 minute walk to direct beach access. There's a great walking/bike path going all the way down the coast plus lots of places to rent bikes if you are so inclined. They are currently updating many of the rooms (full on construction), but we didn't hear anything in our room nor could we hear the people on either side of us. It was overall a good hotel that served out purposes perfectly.

Right next to the beach!!!

This is not a luxury hotel. However, it is clean, has a nice walk in shower, fridge, walk in closet and half a block away from the beach. I left my room and walked about 45 seconds to the ocean! The staff was friendly and the neighborhood is great too. Plenty of restaurants and shops nearby. I will stay again.

Wouldn't change much!

Perfect location, less than a block to a gorgeous beach that wasn't crowded the entire time we were there. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Rooms were comfortable and clean. The only complaint I would have is the bathroom. While it is updated and modern, it is so tiny! Only one person can be in the bathroom at one time, unless one person is in the shower. The shower is a half panel of glass so it takes some getting used to. I just wish they would have used some of the room space for the bathroom. With 4 of us staying in the room, it wasn't the most convenient arrangement. Would definitely stay in again, though!

Disappointing Hotel

We were looking forward to our stay at the Pacific Shores Hotel because of it's good location on Pacific Beach and it close proximity to the ocean. Unfortunately, our stay was a total disappointment. From the outside it appeared clean and updated, however, upon entering our room, we found it to be very dusty, dingy and smelled of mold. The ceiling fan was turned on, disguising the mustiness of the room. We had read that the rooms had been updated a short time before, so we expected better conditions. The carpets were badly stained, walls marred and scratched, woodwork very worn, and the room was overall dirty. It was obvious no one had stayed there for some time and there was no inspection prior to our arrival. I have allergies and the wet, moldy, environment made me very ill. We were extremely unhappy with the hotel overall and would not recommend it. Even at $79/day, it was not a good value. We left after one night and found a cleaner, more suitable hotel that met our needs. On a positive note, the manager was very nice and helpful to us. She assisted in getting a refund for our stay and we appreciated her professionalism.

Not what you'd expect

Good location right next to the water. Private entry way with table and chairs outside. Tropical decor. Big room but small bathroom. Microwave and fridge nice to have. Shower leaks all over the floor, evident by water stains on the carpet into the main room. Basic breakfast, pastries and coffe/tea. Overall very nice stay.

A Pleasant Surpise

We booked this motel at the last minute without much comparision. It was perfect. The rooms appeared like they were recently re-done and they were beautiful. We also stayed in an expensive resort on the same street and wished we would have saved our money and stayed here the entire trip. At the resort, the room wasn't as pretty and there was no refridge or microware. This motel is well worth the money.

Little things make the difference

First, the location is good and the staff are nice folks. But it is not "Steps to the Beach" as advertised. My husband is handicapped so I wanted him to have as short a walk as possible. It is roughly 2 blocks, parking close to the beach was difficult. I don't know who purchased the remote controls to the televisions at this hotel but it litterally took 5 until we received one that worked. We also had two coffee pots and neither of them worked. Yes it's close to the beach and boardwalk but those little details certainly irritated us. Would I stay there again? Probably not, it wasn't the worst hotel I've ever stayed in but it certainly wasn't the best for the money. Also, if you are looking for a quiet area this isn't it, too many bars and restaurants in this area.

Money-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

If you go to the San Diego Zoo, they allow you to bring in food and drinks in with you. You are allowed to eat what you bring at almost any of the on site restaurants. Also, the Zoo is very handicap friendly including shuttles that will transport you around the park just by making a phone call.

24 Year OId Gal Not Impressed

I was in San Diego for vacation--there was a good deal at this hotel and after pondering for a week or two I decided to go with it. I am one who prefers the familiarity of chains like Marriott or Hilton. I was not too thrilled with this hotel. When arriving in San Diego at Noon, the front desk informed me I couldn't check in until 3. After a four hour flight this was not what I had been hoping for--something Marriott or Hilton I am sure would try to accommodate. It was an OK hotel. Nothing special, and it was very annoying to wake up around 8 am to the crew cleaning outside. (Doors/Windows paper thin.) Other than that--front desk women were very professional.

great getaway

my husband and i planned a long weekend to san diego. neither of us have been so the first time experience was thrilling. easy location of motel from the airport. nice and quiet location. the best part its literally a 1 min. walk to the beach. beautiful walking sights, surfers, joggers. the long long walkway goes for miles behind local bars, restaurants, beautiful homes, shops etc. then you can walk right back to your room. its right on a main strip and literally 7 mins from downtown la jolla which is great for seal watching, restaurants, shops, and beautiful sunsets. this is a location we will visit again and again. great little jewel for a great price.
