Want Peacful Night
Good if you like....
Stains on your sheets, train noises and sirens going on all night, and looking out your window a group of homeless sleeping outside your window at night. You won't like if you enjoy a quiet night, a clean feeling, a $32 a night valet parking and $15 a night "resort fee", and a comfortable feeling. So Bad we actually left a day early and paid for the night we weren't there.

Enjoyed my stay!
The location and staff were both great. I was within walking distance of the harbor area and only a block away from Horton Plaza and one of the Old Town Trolley stops. The staff was friendly and helpful. I'd stay there again in the future.

Comfortable
I would like to start on a positive note. I was given a very nice and spacious room. It was especially comforting to come back at night and see the bed made, some gentle music playing and chocolates with a nice message on hospitality left on the bed. This makes a difference to a single, business traveller coming back from a long day at work. My main disappointment was getting a taxi from the hotel. One early morning I did not see anyone at the frontdoor to help me get a taxi and I could not find one by myself on the streets so had to walk all the way to the convention hotel and got quite late for the panel I was attending. The hotel location is not exactly close to the bayfront. It is a decent 15-20 minute walk. I wanted to make a taxi reservation at night as I had an early morning flight to catch but the staff insisted on last minute booking (call 10 mins before leaving from hotel room )despite being informed that the room telephone was not working (it was fixed on request) and that I was unable to get a taxi the day before and had an early morning flight. This lack of attentiveness to particular needs of the traveller is disappointing. On the day I was leaving for the airport too my taxi was not at the door , the taxi company did not send a taxi on time, the attendant was unable to find any taxi to wave down the street and I had to keep waiting for sometime. This did not leave a pleasant feeling as I was leaving the hotel. I got a sense that the hotel staff is set in their ways and not amenable to personal requests. I had booked my room months in advance and called up the hotel requesting a non-smoking room, quiet with a nice view of the bay. I was given a room confirmation number and told that I would have a nice room with a view on the top floors etc. On arrival I was being given a room that was available on the 5th floor not one that I had been promised, my single status seemed to work unfavourbaly towards being given a nice room with a view. However on my inistence I was told that I would be given a very nice room if I came in after 3 pm. I agreed and was given a nice room but the view was not of the bay. I could get a peek at it from the 9th floor if I stared in between the gaps from the towering buildings across. However on the whole this is a good hotel and I would encourage travellers to stay here. It is a safe location situated close to the theatre and shopping mall, walking distance from gas lamp and bayfront for those that enjoy walking a lot.

Perfect Weekend
The Westgate was a fantastic hotel with lots of old world charm. The lobby was flanked with gorgeous chandaliers and a friendly staff and my room was perfect. Oversized room, on the 14th floor, overlooking Downtown San Deigo, the Coronado Bridge, the Bay and the Pacific. The bathroom was big with tons of marble and a great shower. The gym was small but clean and all of the updated machines. Couldn't have asked for more. Overnight car parking was steep ($32 per night), but other than that it was a great value.

Understated opulence
Fantastic old world hotel in the French style decor. Staff was very courteous and helpful. It was like an oasis of understated opulence in a desert of the surrounding San Diego downtown area.

RElaxing Value
Staff at the hotel was Exceptional. Very courteous and attentive. Room was a tad on the dated side, but very clean and comfortable. The hotel restaurant was decent but with all of San Diego at your feet, I would recommend dining out. We've stayed at many hotels in San Diego before, we would come back to this one for sure.

Lacked the wow factor
My girlfriend and I stayed at this hotel for New Years eve. The room was large and had a nice view. There was a lot of noise coming from the room next door. Which made it difficult to sleep. $32 for over night parking is way overpriced. This hotel lacked the wow factor considering the price.
