Great Location and Great Staff

  • ShaneF
  • 29 May 2013
My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the OGH. The staff was very thoughtful and informative. The bed was very comfortable and there was very little noise. San Francisco is a great town and this hotel is right next to the Chinatown gate with an easy walk to cable cars and trolleys that can help you find some incredible sights. There are also many different types of restaurants within walking distance. We would definitely stay at this hotel again. Shane

We came into town for a meeting with a client. The location was easy to get to from the financial district. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and comfortable. The bed bed and pillows were awesome and I had a great night's sleep. The next morning for breakfast the staff pointed us in the right direction for breakfast "Sears Fine Foods". One of the guys we were traveling with complained that we passed many good places on the way to Sears however it was worth the walk. All around great stay, comfortable accommodations and friendly staff. I would not hesitate staying again!

Fantastic convention location, but know what you're in for

  • CGWJR
  • 5 Feb 2013
I stayed at The Mosser in late January for a convention at Moscone. If you're in town for a convention, the location is perfect: Moscone West is just two short blocks south. The rooms are, as described, really quite small. I stayed in a shared queen, and the arrangement of the bed was quite ridiculous. It's quite easy to see that this room was not intended for a bed of this size. When you walk in, you see the headboard against the wall, a quite conventional thing. But you'll notice that the pillows/etc are placed on the side of the bed, for you're expected - and indeed, it's necessary - to sleep sideways on the bed, with the headboard to your side. Fortunately the beds are quite comfortable. Like some other reviewers have mentioned, the rooms get quite warm. The heaters do not turn off, and the window was stuck, so for the first few days my room became a hot, sweltering mess. Fortunately we eventually got the window opened and it was much more comfortable, at the expense of increased street noise. A word of warning if you're booking through here, however. When I checked in, the front desk did not understand that I had already (pre)paid for my room, through the site. The problem was quickly remedied via a call to support, where the operator contacted the hotel and informed them of the situation (I had to do this the next morning, as presumably the staff did not communicate this to the next shift). Just have the phone number ready so that you can have them clear up any problems.

Intimate boutique hotel with outdoor pool just steps from Union Square This Union Square mainstay, dating back to 1908, mixes old and new under one roof. Older rooms bring with them a hearty dose of history; newer accommodations, completed in the last 15 years, are more spacious and have upgraded amenities. There's an outdoor pool -- a rarity for downtown San Francisco -- a heated sauna and an on-site barbershop. One of the city's most popular taverns, The Daily Grill, is located on the ground floor. Highlights Serene outdoor pool with heated saunaStroll to some of the best shopping in townStellar on-site restaurant, The Daily Grill, serves up American classics.On-site barbershopDiscount coupons to nearby Macy's Rooms The Handlery has 377 rooms in all -- 284 in the "historic" section of the hotel, and 93 in a newer and recently renovated part. Newer rooms, dubbed "Premier," measure 450 square feet and look out on the outdoor pool deck. They also include bathrobes and electric shoe polishers. The older rooms, dubbed "Historic," are part of the original 1908 construction and include mini-refrigerators, in-room safes and ironing boards. Some of the latter rooms offer views of the San Francisco skyline; Wi-Fi is available in all (fees apply). Features The hotel has been family owned and operated since the 1920s. long weekend at Da Vinci

  • JayMay
  • 8 May 2013
The location is tremendous, walking distance from Fisherman's Wharf, restaurants, bars, etc. The neighborhood is nice and clean. We had a lovely view from the fifth floor, great views of the city. We booked a king size bed and were "upgraded" to a room with two fulls. Not the end of the world but not ideal either. Room was very clean and nice but lacked air conditioning. Not usually an issue in San Fran but it was unseasonably warm. Front desk was not able to find a King size bed for us and repeatedly stated we had received an upgraded room. Front desk also stated the room had air conditioning when it did not. I understand that the guest services representative can not build a room with a king sized bed and air conditioning if it is not available but I would have appreciated a little more honesty and ownership. All in all, a few hiccups but the location, decent price, cleanliness, and good service from most of the hotel staff made this a positive experience. Just make sure to call after booking online to confirm the room type.

I spent one night and it was ok. Good location and cleanliness. Downside was that aisles on room floors were too cold (doors were left open to outside corridors) and room walls didn't seal noise between rooms well enough. For a short period it was ok.

The hotel staff was excellent. The concierge service was amazing. The quirky lobby was fun. The beds and pillows were amazing. The complimentary soaps and shampoo was better than the stuff u get at the store. I loved the location close to the financial district. Multiple cafes and restaurants within walking distance. Close to mini an trolley stops. Very close to union square. We ran up Taylor street to the wharf only 1.5 miles but half up a steep hill. Great workout. Don't rent a car if u don't need to, expensive to store and so easy to get around without. Loved the place would stay there again.

Good Location, Good Place to stay, but Noisy

  • Ressar
  • 11 Mar 2013
Hotel was in a good location, easy to walk places and get around. Staff was very helpful, breakfast was very basic, but good enough to get you started. Small rooms, but don't think there are large rooms for 2 anywhere around there. Housekeeping was great - our room was very clean. Only complaint is the noise. We were 4th floor street side. I felt like I was trying to sleep with the windows open. Earplugs should have been packed. Lots of street noise, you know when the bars let out and I am guessing there was a fire station not too far away. I would stay here again, but I would definately bring my earplugs. Good value too - much cheaper than other hotels.

The hotel itself is comfortable, as were the beds. While there are few amenities, i.e. extras available, such as a lounge, a bar, etc., for those just looking for a place to hang your hat while spending most of your time out and about, you can't beat the price. Parking is extra, but also very secure and allows for easy entrance and exit throughout your stay at no extra cost.

I was in the area for a conference & wanted to save a little money by not staying at the hotel the conference was associated with. This was an awesome choice. I was a little worried about some of the negative reviews but this hotel is exactly what I needed for my stay. It's a little more expensive than I think it should be but I'm also the type that will stay at a Travelodge to save money. Overall, I loved it & would defnitely stay there on my next trip, if the price was right!

Inexpensive Chic Hotel Tucked in a relatively quiet corner in Union Square

  • Gaybel
  • 10 Jan 2013
The price can't be beat. Beds are really comfortable and the room was spotlessly clean. In the room, I imagined the interior designer must have been an artsy type that painstakingly shopped for the perfect furniture pieces in antique stores and gave them all a major modern face-lift. There is jazz playing in a beautiful 2nd floor bar lounge every night! The hotel sits in a relatively quiet corner because there is a street tunnel right next to it...so not a lot of foot traffic and yet it is just steps away from everything union square offers. Plus, the staff is so incredibly professional and nice. The cons, as others have stated, are the incredibly loud garbage trucks that come at 4-5am. Tip: avoid the north side of the building (odd numbered rooms) to avoid the garbage truck noise.

Ein Hotel mit guter Lage

  • DanielaElisa
  • 9 May 2013

We arrived and the receptionist was great (Thomas), he was helpful in suggesting restaurants and gave us information about the place. The best thing is that EVERYTHING is with in walking distance. The hotel has a back door that leads you straight to fishermas wharf. I did not spend to much time in the hotel room to be honest but I loved it..

Description
Industrial chic and unique hotel off Union Square  Hotel Diva is a unique, ultramodern hotel designed by local architect Olle Lundberg, who specializes in metalwork. Like something from a futuristic or science fiction film, Hotel Diva makes a dramatic style statement, featuring Lundberg's trademark sculptured metal headboards and bold color schemes of slate gray and silver with a striking blue carpet, symbolizing a 1930s ocean liner, running throughout. In contrast to the industrial chic, which won Hotel Diva a Best Hotel Design award from Interiors magazine, the service is warm and attentive. 3 Reasons To Stay: Avant-garde hotel designed by renowned architect Located near all amenities of Union Square Pet- and wallet-friendly hotel Hotel Diva Rooms  The outstanding, modern style of Hotel Diva is present throughout its 115 guest rooms, which range from deluxe king or queen rooms to deluxe two doubles. Not for the faint-hearted, the cool, monochromatic rooms feature the architect's signature steel headboards, metallic touches, and a playful, pop art touch. Children love the little divas suite, which is equipped for a family of four and boasts a riot of primary colors in a fun, almost cartoonish setting. The hotel is not just about the fun factor, though, as it takes the needs of guests seriously, and they are well provided for with iPod docking stations, flat-screen televisions and complimentary wireless Internet. Rooms also include comfortable beds, bathrobes and coffee-making facilities. The hotel also caters for the business traveler, with four designer business lounges available for use, and there is complimentary use of a town car to whisk guests to the nearby Financial District. Eating on site is a pleasure at Colibri, which offers fresh and tasty Mexican cuisine, plus a selection of premium tequilas, and the Hotel Diva includes a Starbucks with its usual good selection of coffees, pastries and muffins. Location was fantastic, loved the design of the hotel, room was small but very comfortable. Toiletries were good quality. I had a room on the 2nd floor and the gym was just a stone's throw away. Staff was helpful as well. All in all, my choice if I were to stay in the city again. Definitely.

Hotel Abri is located very close to a Bart station, right in Union Square. It's walking distance to many hot spots in SF. Other than location, the hotel is nothing more than what one would expect from a three-star hotel--neither great nor terrible. It was clean, all around a good place.

Description
Historic grandeur overlooking the Golden Gate City This Nob Hill mainstay, dating back to 1907, blends contemporary and historic tastes. Decorative touches such as marble floors and Corinthian columns evoke turn-of-the-century grandeur, while modern conveniences such as high-speed Internet and a full-service fitness center and spa keep travelers grounded in the present. Three well-regarded restaurants offer options for every meal, and the city's oldest Tiki bar provides a break from the formality of the hotel. HighlightsThe hilltop location delivers panoramic and breathtaking views of San Francisco BayHop on any one of the city's cable cars right out frontUnion Square shopping is only a four-block walk from the hotel Rooms Accommodations -- 591 rooms, 62 of them suites -- span two buildings: the original, circa-1907 structure and a tower built in the 1960s. Rooms vary in size (325-425 square feet; up to 6,000 for suites), but all come with flat-screen televisions, Frette luxury linens, MP3 docking stations and Miller Harris toiletries. Many also offer stunning views of San Francisco Bay, while Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet access are available in all (fees apply). Features The hotel has received numerous awards, including the AAA Four Diamond Award and ExxonMobil Four Star Award. Marble floors and Corinthian columns trimmed in gold accentuate the ornate Main Lobby. This area, spruced up in 1999, transports guests back to 1907, when the hotel opened. It may also transport TV fans back to the 1980s: Aaron Spelling's "Hotel" series was shot here. The United Nations Charter was drafted in the hotel, and even the concierge service is historic. Dating back to 1973, it's the first formal concierge desk in the U.S. All guests have access (fees apply) to the on-site Club One at Nob Hill Health Club, a full-service facility with spa and fitness center. Grab a Mai-Tai at the Tonga Room and Hurricane Bar, a kitschy-but-lovable Tiki lounge on the site of an old (circa-1920s) indoor pool. On weekend nights, a band on a floating stage serenades patrons with Polynesian tunes . Meh. It's okay if you're into fancy hotels.

  • BayAreaGuy
  • 26 May 2013
If you're someone who has never been to San Francisco, and you want a piece of old-world charm and history (and price really isn't an issue), then the Fairmont is a good hotel choice. If, however, you're not all that interested in the amenities of a hotel and would rather spend your money on fun, food, entertainment, this hotel will just suck up your budget and leave you feeling buyer's remorse. The Fairmont is in a great location (Nob Hill, aka Snob Hill) with beautiful millionaire SF-style houses, a LOT of great views of the bay, interesting sites (don't miss the Cathedral just one block up the street!), etc. But a tiny room with a queen bed will cost you $300 easy, and parking is about $59 per night (plus an automatic 14% tax that's never explained). The Fairmont's restaurant is insanely expensive ($18 for a tiny bowl of regular oatmeal) and nothing to write home about. The Tiki Bar downstairs is quite a nice surprise, and there's no other like it in SF, but you can come hang out there without staying in the hotel. Be prepared to stand in line for a while unless you get there about an hour before opening. My advice is, unless you make over $100,000 a year, stay in a less expensive hotel and save your money for a show, shopping at Pier 39, or a ferry ride out to Alcatraz.

Nice, but a few kinks

  • WhatWhat567
  • 22 May 2013
Overall, a great hotel. Great location in the city, easy access to everything, pleasant staff. However, the monetization of some typically free services was displeasing. Our room was nice, but whenever the A/C kicked on there was a -very- loud "click!" that woke us right up. So some rough sleep those first few nights, but we got used to it. Also, five-star hotels need bigger TVs!

Great place for a long stay

  • De the world traveller
  • 18 Oct 2012
The staff was very friendly and our appartment was super clean. The bed was too small for two people, I don't think that it was even a double bed. The location was good, we walked everywhere except that we were very close to a seedy neighborhood and there were a lot of homeless persons on the street. Overall, we would stay there again it was nice having the space of a studio instead of just a hotel room and even if we stayed out late we felt safe at all times.

I loved the location of this hotel, located inbetween the aiport, fishermans wharf, union square, Ghirardelli square, shopping and dining all around, starbucks in the hotel, whats not to like......Carpet smelled a little musty, but a beautiful old fashioned hotel. Beds were comfortable and the room was quiet.
