Basic Lodgings; Fair Price
The Grant Plaza is pretty basic, which is something you should understand if you book it. Amenities are minimal. The location is quite convenient to Chinatown and the financial district, and is fairly central to a lot of good activities in SF. It's a small room, but it is very clean. Parking is a few blocks away, and costs about $28 per day. Overall, if you're on a budget, you'll be happy with this place.

Short walk from hotel
A very nice little restaurant, Le Central, is around the block on Bush. Never seems too crowded, like some of the watering holes near the financial district will get after 5 pm. Another block down the hill on Bush you'll reach Belden Place, an alley full of restaurants, from Italian to seafood to Spanish. You can also walk down the hill on Pine from the hotel to get there.

I heart SF
Will not stay again
Well, I was just looking for a place to stay one night in SF. So, I decided to stay here. But if I am going to travel SF again, I wouldn't stay here. Why? 1) As soon as I entered the hotel, it smelled bad. Of course the room smelled bad too. 2) You can hear all the noise from other rooms.

acceptable room
Location is fantastic!! No doubt for that. Room is very small, barely can turn around in the shower. Not as clean as I would pay for $70 and the hallway and the room has a wired smell.

For the price...good stuff!
The Grant Plaza is a nice hotel conveniently located to points of interest like Chinatown, Union Square, Market Street...California Street Cable Cars, St. Mary's Church as well. The hotel itself, I must say, was small but, but I ended up loving it because it WAS small and rather quaint. The personnel was friendly and efficient, the room reminded me of home, clean and airy. I would definitely return to stay there since I am an "in-out" traveler.

Try the Garden Restaurant on Kearny/Clay. About 4 blocks from the hotel, they open at 0730 M-F and serve American & Chinese foods. Ask for Jasey or Lily...you will love it!

Pleased Overall
I reserved the hotel for my first vacation to San Francisco. I was imediately impressed with the location. There are tons of shops, restaurants and bars within walking distance. Not only do you get the environment of Chinatown, but you are a block or 2 away from the financial district and high end shopping. But being in the city center means no parking on-site, and it's not cheap. I paid $111 for parking Thursday afternoon to Monday morning. The parking lot was 4 hilly blocks away. But $27 a day for parking wasn't the most expensive I saw during my stay. I noticed another lot equally far away that was advertising $18 a day, but decided it wasn't worth the effort to switch. As for the hotel itself, the staff was very polite and accomodating. They were quick to check us in and out. I stayed in a room with 2 twin beds, and it was very small. There was room for the 2 beds, a small desk, and a dresser (barely#. The bathroom was also small. Very tiny shower, no tub. The building is an old one, so the size of the room was to be expected, and it worked out just fine for 2 #not tiny) people. The beds were comfortable, the view was great, the water pressure and temperature was awesome. They have free wi-fi in the room, and 2 computer stations downstairs with a printer that gives you 20 min of use for $5.No continental breakfast or coffee machines. Soda vending machine in the lobby. The worst thing about the hotel was that you had to pay for the ice machine. 25 cents gets you MAYBE 2 cups of ice. Overall, we were thuroughly satisfied and would stay there again.

Next time, I would not rent a car and take public transportation. I spent more on parking than anything else, and taking public transportation is very easy in that area.

Couple's getaway weekend
It was a bit smaller than small. But it was very clean. Perfect location. Right in the middle of everything. Walls are VERY thin....but overall a great place. It's nice if you are doing short trip, there is so much to do, you don't spend much time in the hotel.

Business trip San Francisco
The room was small. Amenities are limited. Great location - close to Union Square, Convention Center and Chinatown. Good value for someone who really are not in the room a lot except to sleep and shower.

Great Location for Everything!
The rooms were pretty small but it worked out great for what my boyfriend and I needed for our vacation. It was right near several restaurants, cafes, and bars that were within walking distance. In addition, it's located walking distance to several Muni stops which we found to be the most cost-effective and easiest way to get around (they do offer a special guest rate of $24.95/day at a garage for your car a few blocks away, driving seems pretty nuts in SF though). The room was nothing special(really small, and basic), but for the price it worked out perfect for the week we stayed there, and best of all there was always hot water for the shower! If you're looking for a hotel with flat screen tvs, huge beds, and paul mitchell shampoos this hotel probably isn't for you, but if you just need a place to sleep at night while your exploring the city of San Francisco then this is your spot.

There's an awesome cafe called The Working Girls cafe a block and a half from the hotel located on Bush St. They had great bagels/breakfast sandwiches, perfect stop for a quick (decent priced) breakfast
