Good location

- Fantastic location in walking distance of Fisherman's Wharf attractions. Far enough from the main drag to be a quiet place to sleep. - Polite front desk personnel; always lots of staff present at the front desk, as well as concierge and bellmen. - Very safe - never had any doubts or concerns as a solo traveler about either the neighborhood or the hotel itself. - Clean and modern. - You are paying for location and convenience but not luxury - this isn't necessary a bad thing, just something to be aware of. This is a clean, comfortable, but standard traveler/family hotel. - They seem to get a little backed up at peak/rush times; understandable and not exactly a complaint, just a note that I had to call a couple of times to track down a replacement for a broken hairdryer. Customer service was polite but nothing extraordinary. I felt like I got a safe, clean place to stay for my dollar. I could have stayed for cheaper, but I would have had to take risks on safety or comfort; I could have had a luxury experience, but I would have had to pay a lot more. This suited me just fine. I would stay here again.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

When you go to see the Golden Gate Bridge, don't go to the standard lookout point that tourists go to. Instead, get directions to/hours for Fort Point, a Civil War era fort beneath the bridge. It's windy and a bit chilly, so bring a jacket and hat, but it's worth it. You'll avoid the crowd, get amazing views of the bridge, and get to add in a history tour, all at once. It's free and absolutely terrific.

Spring break "break"

The room was clean and spacious. Location was great easy to walk around or use mass transit. The only slight disappointment was that the room did not have "room darkening curtains". It made it hard to sleep with bright lights coming in from the building next door. Also I think it might have buffered some of the street noise. Over all it was just fine. I would probably stay again because of location and price.

Not worth the expense

Planned a couple's week-long getaway in San Francisco and decided on the Holiday Inn at Fisherman's Wharf based on its location and other reviews. It is situated just a block from the Ghirardelli shop and other touristy type attractions, i.e. Lombard Street and cable car rides. The staff was very nice, from the front desk folks to the cleaning ladies to the security guards - everyone says hello warmly even in passing. Make sure to tip your cleaning ladies, folks. The room was average in size and pretty clean, but had a very worn, uncomfortable bed and super thin walls. You can hear everything happening in the hallway, your neighbor's room and outside. If you stay here, you will definitely need ear plugs. We went to buy some first thing in the morning following our first night's stay. The parking situation here is pretty meager. There is underground parking but it was frequently filled beyond capacity, with some cars having to double park. Not sure how that was arranged with the owners of the vehicles, but we did see it on multiple occasions. Also, beware that parking is not included in your hotel rate. I was under the impression that parking was included, but it was charged at a rate of forty bucks a night. Overall, if you're visiting SF and want to do touristy things, this is an okay place to stay if you're on a budget. There are plenty of other great options all over the city, though, if you care to explore more than the tourist traps. SF has tons to offer and Fisherman's Wharf really doesn't even scratch the surface.

Great location

The Fisherman's Wharf location was outstanding, although our room was on an alley and was very noisy. Breakfast was not included and cost $26. The front desk staff was polite but unhelpful with directions and restaurant recommendations. I death with 5 different people who sent me the wrong way every time--even with a map. And in a city noted for its restaurants, no one could suggest a place with entrees less than $30 per person. I used Yelp and my AAA guidebook and had a great vacation with my family. It was a place to sleep.

Take the City Sightseeing Hop-on Hop-Off tour. There are 4 different tours plus and Alcatraz add-on. The guides were terrific, the customer service was outstanding and the tours were wonderful. It was useful to have the 72-hour ticket.

wonderful getaway with my daughter

I have satyed at this hotel several times because it is close to the marina and I can go for a jog every morning. The woman in front office is always rude, and the parking is way too expensive, but I do like the accomodations and how the room is always clean.

Walk everywhere so you do not use gas, and do not have to pay for parking which you are already paying at the hotel. You could also use public transportation.

Good location, the rest? Meh...

Great location, within a short walk to the trappings of Fisherman's Wharf. The hotel itself however, was nothing special. It was loud, including some sound that never stopped the entire stay that sounded like a vacuum cleaner running above the room. The staff was not especially friendly or helpful. The Denny's in the lobby that was open 24 hours a day was a nice benefit though.
