WORST HOTEL I COULD EVER IMAGINE!!!!!!!

Do not book this place! Easily the worst hotel ever. We stayed for all of 50 minutes, couldn't wait to get out of there! Filthy isn't the word. We booked 3 rooms for our party, 1 was downstairs, right off Lombard Street, felt less than secure! Other two upstairs, rickety old stair case and landing which hadn't been cleaned, swept in a v long time, wood panels under unit windows hanging off, and public bin/ashray so full the cigarette buts were over-flowing! Opened room door to a stale stink, at first glance room was v old and less than inviting. But after the tears cleared from our running eyes due to the room stench we found.... Blood stains, and other brown stains on sheets, which also had holes in.... Dread to think what was also over the 100 year old bed spread! What can only be described as dry urine splashes in the was hand basin. An old easy chair with an obvious vomit stain on arm and back cushion, and other ominous white stains on other parts of the chair! At this point i took my two year old son out of the room and put him back in the car....no way coukd i let him touch ANYTHING in this place! The carpet had vomit marks all over it, and one large dark stain (i'm sure it was blood) just at the bathroom threshold. The bath was black with years of dirt, towels threadbare.... I could go on and on, and have dozens of photographs too..... Needless to say, the other two rooms we booked were just as bad... Raj on reception was not surprised or bothered by the fact we were so appauled by the state if the place! We were gone within the hour, to checkin to a lovely hotel further down the road where we promptly showered and washed away all sticky, stinking, disgusting traces of the HowardJohnson........

Ear Plugs Required

To much noise makes it impossible to sleep. The worst part is in the morning with the staff rolling the cleaning carts over a tile floor with rooms on both sides and open roof

Great Location, Weird Stay

Great if you don't plan on spending much time in your hotel. Staff was great, location was awesome. Parking was limited, bed sheets stained and ripped, housekeeping came too early, and the breakfast was just ok. Good value for the location.

Convenient

It's a pretty small hotel, room right next to ice machine, can hear through walls and the door very easily. Didn't feel too clean and the pillows were terribly uncomfortable. Staff was ok. Breakfast, average at best. Very convenient location however and for just a quick nights stay

Can't believe how this hotel got the good remarks it did

Rooms are not properly cleaned. My husband and I got 3 towels and 1 washcloth even when we asked for more. Coffee pot did not work. Second night the pipe under the sink came apart and water dripped on the floor. No one was at the desk so he had to try and put it back together. Complementary breakfast was a joke. Waffle iron needed serious cleaning. Food crumbs all over the place and 2 very small table for 80 rooms. Offered parking.....15 tiny slots for 80 rooms and they rented them out by the hr to non residents during the day. I am not a fussy traveler but this was not good.

A little disappointed

Benefits: Perfect location (a little over a mile from Ghiradelli Square), decent television channels, and a kind staff. Disappointments: Stains on the rugs, a chair, the bathtub, and some towels. The shower curtain and sheets/pillowcases had some holes in them. It was an okay choice for a single traveler with low expectations, but I'm a little upset that I don't feel the price and room match. I think I paid for the location rather than the room, and I'd rather stay at another hotel if I can find one nearby with a similar or lower price.

I tried sushi for the first time at Umami (and it was great). It's a couple blocks from the hotel. I also bought breakfast foods at Safeway (about 3 blocks away) to save money.

Beyond noisy

Most of the reviews we had read (after booking) were atrocious and the room really was not bad at all. Bathroom was new and fresh, everything was clean, linens and blankets a bit shabby but not unclean. Parking is included, but very tight especially if you have an SUV; we got the last spot and we got in at 10pm. STaff were very pleasant, although Wifi never did work despite my repeated requests and their assurances it "should be working." HUGE problem was the noise. A group of rambunctious folks insisted on hanging out right outside our room laughing and screaming until about 2 am. Hotel staff kept coming up (after I called) to try to quiet them but it took hours. Also a ton of street noise.

Exploring local neighbourhoods

After the initial shock of being on such a noisy stretch of Lombard and the very basic first impression of the room (shame there are no safes for valuables!) and motel, I realise in what a fantastic location this place is. Marina and the waterfront are a short walk away and the local shops and restaurants in Chestnut Street are great and lierally a few minutes walk. Even better; shops and restaurants in Union Street and the walk up the hill along Fillmore to more great shopping and eating!

Great, easy to get to location, especially if driving.

Easy access from the 101, right on Lombard street. Close to Fisherman's Wharf and hot neighborhoods. Staff was helpful. The beds are comfortable, and the only grip we had was that the room was smoking when we requested non-smoking.

Good place to eat, sleep and get on the go

My boyfriend and I were in need of a good vacation. San Francisco was our destination. We wanted to look for a good and in our budget type of place. Ramada Limited San Francisco was perfect. We wanted a place that included parking because we planned to park and leave the truck there while we stayed. (it is first come first serve though) We used public transportation which was great because the main buses that take you everywhere were right around the corner. The staff was very helpful when we needed directions or any additional questions about the room. Plus they let us check in early. Breakfast was sufficient and for the price of the room we had nothing to complain about. EXCEPT for one night when we heard the complete argument between a mother and daughter. - but then again it was Saint Patrick Day weekend. Drunk people everywhere! But anything you need is close by. There is plenty of bars around and the neighborhood is nice. There is a Safeway down the street to buy booze or food. Overall I would stay there again and I would recommend it for a short weekend trip to anyone. ENJOY YOUR TRIP!

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Buy the Multi-Muni pass for $21.00 (They have 3,5,10 day passes, we got the 3 day pass) Leave your car parked in the hotels parking structure and walk down to Walgreen and you can buy your ticket there. The front desk of the hotel has a great map for free of the transportation bus schedules. and the passes work for the trolleys and subways too!
