Good value for money
We were satisfied with our stay at this hotel, the location (which we think is the mos important thing when travelling) is perfect, close to everything, walking distance ... We just used the room for sleeping and bathing and it served its purpose. The shower is ugly but again, it works, so its ok for the price we pay ... just dont forget your flip-flops to get into it. At night it was a little bit noisy outside but I didn't we didn't have any problems to sleep.

Short walk from hotel
Little Italy has AMAZING places for dinning, beautiful, delicious and great price ... and it is just across china town, you can walk on grant ave until reach columbus or ... if you feel a little unsecure by walking in china town (as we did, jaja) you can walk on any parallel street and believe us ... its worth the walk!

Blast from the past
I knew what I was in for when I was handed the metal key on the Key ring. I felt like the room was used to film old Starsky & Hutch shows : ) It was clean, and the location was great however.

We had never been to San Fracisco and were happy to see this hotel was in a perfect location to sightsee. You are very close to everything. The accommodations are modest but clean. I would stay at this hotel again.

Four Nights at The Baldwin - January 2012
The staff were very accommodating and friendly. I had asked for a quiet room (far from the elevator) when I reserved and they delivered. The room is large enough and was clean. The flat-screen TV worked well, the shower was great (hot, voluminous) and the bed was firm -- which I like -- but a bit lumpy. Sheets are changed every two days, which is fine by me. No risk of needing to call down for more toilet paper or Kleenex; extras provided in the room. The steam radiator heating system is noisy, though my room was comfortable. Each day there was a clever "folded towel animal" (Iike Origami with towels) on the bed. Truly, a unique touch. Great value, great location. I'm definitely coming back.

Clean, quiet and convenient
The hotel is in a great location in the city, close to major transportation and attractions and right in front of the Chinatown gate. The location is very convenient and the neighborhood is clean and quiet at night. The room was clean and comfortable with basic amenities, good enough for us who don't have a lot of needs. The staff was very helpful and friendly and we felt at ease staying at this hotel. We highly recommend this hotel for a comfortable and affordable stay in San Francisco.

great location
Room was small but recently renovated. Located close to everything downtown, especially Chinatown. No breakfast, but the Working Girls Cafe in the next street parallel was great (also try the Banana House Thai restaurant in the same street where we went back 3 times to each for cheap and tasty food.)

Short walk from hotel
Use the local buses - cheap at $2 for 90mins travel and they go everywhere, including the Fisherman's walk. Golden Gate Bridge & Park. Check out the view from the top of the 9 storey tower at the Younge art museum in the Golden Gate park - it's free and wonderful.

Good base to explore San Francisco
No frills, but clean. It's advertised as being on Union Square so I was surprised that it's right below the main entrance to China Town on Grant Street. The room was clean but bare bones. The TV is set at an angle to the bed and the remote can't be taken off the head board. It was pretty uncomfortable watching TV lying cross wise on the bed. The hotel is quiet and very safe. The staff was polite but not personable. No particular personality to the hotel either. The best feature is that it's located within walking distance of where I want to go while in SF.

Short walk from hotel
Lori's Diner is just a few blocks away. Nice neighborhood place. If you want a good breakfast, lunch or dinner that's inexpensive with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere (and you like early rock n roll), try it out.
