The Forgotten Part of the Village

I am usually not the one to complain, but after my recent stay at the Village Hotel, I felt the need to share my experiences. I have stayed with my family before in the Village Condos at the Chateau and had a great experience. But my stay with the Village Hotel was quite the opposite. My girlfriend and I nicknamed it “the forgotten hotel in the village” after only two days. We checked in on a Thursday and after a whole day of travel and decided to take a quick nap. The entire time the cleaning service was in the room next door, probably an hour and a half. Whoever was cleaning decided to go in and out of the room about 50 times, slamming the door each time. We wrote that off to bad timing. The next morning we decided to make coffee, which we found out the coffee maker didn’t have an outlet close and had to be moved to the sink to make coffee. When we went to pour the coffee about half ended up in the cup and half on our clothes because there was a crack in the coffee pot. Again, wrote that off as a small occurrence. We also wanted some water but the cups provided were no bigger than a shot glass. We called the front desk and were told there was a grocery store nearby. Come to find out the pub had full size cups as well as the pool area. After seeing that we knew the staff was just too lazy to find cups for us. This was proved through several other calls to the front desk that ended in a similar fashion, including them telling us they weren’t sure how to get to Keystone but we could check online. More problems included no nature valley bars in the hotel, no hot chocolate altogether, and the air conditioner reset itself to 72, no matter where we wanted to set the temperature. After dinner our trip to the hot tub lasted about five minutes because they closed at ten and the worker “just wanted to go home”, so we needed to get out ASAP. Also, every morning around 8 AM the staff decides to vacuum the hallways to ensure that no guests get to sleep in. The absolute worst part was the mold in the bathroom. It had been painted (several times it seemed) to cover it up, but was still growing and still very easy to spot. Overall this hotel was not worth even the daily resort fee (which was also a surprise charge upon checkout). The Location was awesome, but there are several other places to stay that are just as convenient. After all, there is a free ride shuttle in Breck.

Spend a little more, stay somewhere else

We chose The Village Hotel to save a little money per night, but it was evident from the time we got to our room that we should have just paid a little more to have a place we were excited to come back to at the end of a long day in the mountains. Yes, this is Breck, you shouldn't be spending that much time at your hotel, but it makes a big difference if you can relax when you are at the hotel. Access to The Village Hotel is poor. If you aren't lucky enough to get a spot in the garage you have to park across the street. The main entrance isn't kept clean and the bar/pub in the basement stinks up the lower level of the hotel. The hallways are drab and the room is oddly laid out. One can barely fit inside the bathroom, meaning you have to straddle a toilet to shut the door. The pool and fitness center doesn't open until 10. What's with that? The blinds in the room were chipped/broken and when you went to twist them shut the rod would come off in your hand. If you are looking to save some money, save some money some other way with a different hotel which isn't going to insult you with a lack of tidiness, a poor layout, and poor parking. All this place has going for it are a few great people at the front desk and its location. You can walk to anything in Breck, but you can do that from the Marriott for a little more per night. We'd recommend that.

Good location; bad service

Staff was not very helpful upon arrival; it's valet only and couldn't find a valet for a long time. Front desk not very welcoming and forgot to give us our lift ticket voucher that we prepaid. Bathroom had mold and was so small that I almost had to turn sideways to get in it( I am only 120 lbs!) hot tubs were nice; minifridge was oversized which was convenient. Very close to slopes. But service was so bad it made our trip more stressful.

Lots of good, and lots of bad!

Well the resort was nice in and around it, the bathroom in the room was SSSSSOOOOOO SSSSMMMMAAAAAAALLLLLLL ill never stay there again. I wasnt able to get dressed in the bathroom because it was way to small and my arms hit the walls and door, you couldnt even open the door and step out, you had to tip toe around the toilet. And I was promised a jacuzzi in my room thats the reason we chose the resort we did, when we got there no jacuzzi, and no one new what we were talking about, they refered us to the outside ones in -22 degree weather! They kept saying upon booking that hotel under went a multi million dollar renovation, WHERE DID THE MONEY GO NOT TO THE VILLAGE AT BRECK

Likes: Included Valet in closed garage, front desk was friendly and helpful. Dislikes: Rooms were small, with a bar/restaurant downstairs it smelled like grease/oil, didn't seem very clean. According to the description online it did live up to my expectations.

the good, the bad, and the really ugly

The worst smell (fried food from their restaurant) that you could ever imagine is everywhere in the hotel. It wasn't pleasure at all. Won't ever go there again.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

No worthy to stay there and smell that gross odor in order to be close to the main street. preferred to walk from a nicer hotel and not from the Village

Dirty and smelly

We stayed at an amazing place in Steamboat the previous 5 nights. The Village Hotel had a similar price and rating, so we sort of expected a similar experience. Boy, were we surprised! This place may have been renovated in '06, but they must have not done anything since. The place was filthy, and it smelled terrible. We were in a building adjacent to the main lobby. When you walked in you instantly noticed a stale odor. The elevators and hallways were black with dirt and smelled just plain rank. Even the room had a funny odor. Even our 8 year-old noticed the odors. The room had a 4foot splotch of mismatched paint on the wall, where something was repaired, then painted over with an entirely different color. The pool and hot tubs were large enough, and a nice temperature, but the steam room smelled of dirty feet on more than one occasion. I'm not super picky, and have never written a negative comment about another hotel, but felt compelled to share our experience. We were truly disappointed.
