The staff was friendly and efficient. THe hot tub is new and clean. With fridge, microwave, coffee maker and good tv and internet this place had everything we needed. The breakfast was good.

The downside is the overall "look" of the interior as it looks dated. However, the rooms have been upgraded and the bed is rediculously comfortable. Excellent food, nice gym with newer equipment, helpful staff, and even has a river view. Perfect location within walking distance to Main street for easy dining, shopping, etc. Definitely the best place to stay in Durango.

It was ok, not anywhere close to the downtown area as the [...]agent suggested. The breakfast room was extremely tiny and with the cold nights, they were limited on blankets.

The employees at the hotel were very friendly. The rooms were always clean. There wasn't a microwave or a refrigerator as the description suggests. I would recommend this hotel only if you are staying for a night or two.

Clean place to sleep.

Stayed overnight while visiting Mesa Verde National Park. Room was clean, but had that weird cheap motel smell. The mattress was brand new. The heating unit worked but got too hot. That is all ok, because we didn't pay much. The breakfast was not bad. Internet was slow, told by the desk to log in to the next door hotel if I had problems.
If we needed a clean place to crash I would return, but only if we got another killer deal. If the cost was higher I would risk trying another place.

Had bad weather and a long drive. The staff were very friendly upon arrival and when i called that i would be late, were very accommodating. it was in a centrally located area near fast food and pharmacy store. wasn't in the main area of town so it was not so noisy. the spray they used to clean the carpet each day was a very strong odor and even with the air conditioner running, it took a while for the smell to dissapate. People with asthma would have a hard time breathing in the room. it did not smell smokey or musty. i liked that the air conditioner was not right next to the bed but in the bathroom area. they provide a small coffee maker with stuff and daily they provided hygiene products. i had plenty of towels.

My friends and I stayed here last minute due to another hotel losing our reservations. The managers were very accommodating and were able to put us in rooms next to each other. Our rooms were very clean though one was a bit dated but still in good shape. The north end of town was much quieter than down closer to the historic area. Everyone was very helpful and they even booked train tickets for us. We will book all of our future girls weekends there.

The Best Western Rio Grande was a very nice hotel. The room had both a fridge and a microwave along with a coffee pot. If you didn't want to leave your room you really didn't have to. The only bad thing was they had cocktail hour until 7pm and then you had to find somewhere else to go. Fortunately a wonderful mexican restaurant was just a block a way. The room was clean and relaxing and the heater worked great. We had to park a ways from our room and we had to dry our coats from all the snow. Vey quiet and I would definately stay there again.

This Durango Best Western was much better than I expected. It was comfortable - the bedroom had a king bed, television and night stands. The living room had a sofa bed, television, small table, refrigerator, and extra chair. There was a small deck off the bedroom overlooking a grassy area. (It would have been more inviting if a large power pole with equipment was not there as well.) The price included breakfast - nothing very special but adequate - cold cereal, hard boiled eggs, juice and coffee.. I would have expected fresh fruit and a waffle maker like many motels now provide.

The rooms are decorated with lovely antique furniture pieces and are very cosy. Location is right down town. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Had an excellent steak dinner in the restaurant. Complimentry breakfast was one of the best I've had.

Room was very well stocked with dishes, toaster, gadgets, can opener etc. Even had step ladder and small tool box.. Had plenty of room, large dining table and LR. TV was kind of small, almost felt we needed to get a chair and sit right in front of it. Queen size bed was very firm, could use a pillow-top matress. Stayed 5 nights, room was cleaned on third day without asking, this was fine with us.

We went to Durango for the turning colors of the trees. What a great site this time of the year.We went on a short ride on the Silverton Train for the Punpkin Patch, also good time. We injoyed the town.

Room great, you must call to get your bed made in the morning or freshed up with towles. The Wyndam is set up for weekly guests with Time Shares and when the option for nightly rentals came about on Cheap tickets, they just don't change the bedding or towels daily. Otherwise place is GREAT.

Older Hotel on the Far Side of Town

This is an older hotel, located on the far side of town away from downtown Durango. It was decent and I would stay there again. We were not in the room much. The amenities were adequate, our maid did forget to put soap in the room the second morning, but the front desk quickly fixed this! Overall, a good value for the price and since our activities were located in different areas, this worked out well.

I tried to check in several hours early since I had to have an early flight in - but the hostess was rather short with me and said "Check in is at 3pm." When I looked surprized at her response she said, "The earliest I might be able to do is 1pm." I did thank her for that and walked away. But then another guest came up to me as I was getting in my car and said, "I can't believe how rude she was to you! I happen to know this place is practically empty and she won't let you in early?" I did tell her I was allowed to check in at 1pm and that helped her feel better about things but she was all ready to give me her list of hotels in the area so I could try somewhere else. Of course I could not do that since my reservation was through Obitz. Anyway, just thought you should know that my experience with the front desk was not what it could have been. Any other staff I met through my stay were very pleasant.

Our leisurely trip was hit with a suprise when we arrived and the front desk was closed. We had to back track to another resort to check in. And, IF we wanted to use the fitness center and pools, we had to use the other resort as well. NOT AT ALL convenient or practical. If I would have known this was the set up, I would have never set up this reservation. It would have been helpful to know this bit of IMPORTANT information when searching locations. Specially when reviews from others said this was the place to be.

Stayed here for Durango iron horse bike race with husband, 2 teenage sons, and mother-in-law. Great value for the money. My only complaint was it was hard to cool the condo down--no ceiling fans or A/C and it retained heat. Otherwise--a great stay!

Overall good experience. Nice hotel, beautiful views! No restaurant nearby, but downtown Durango was great. Our AC didn't cool the room for several hours, which was not ideal at all. Wish we could have stayed their multiple nights to enjoy the amenities. We got lost on the way, there aren't any signs letting you know where to turn.

We were here on a ski vacation and really enjoyed our stay. The room was very spacious, comfortable, nicely decorated, and included a little stove for cooking, refrigerator, and microwave. This was really helpful because we saved money by eating in. Plates, cookware and flatware were provided. The area surrounding the lodge is very scenic. The only thing I wished the front desk did was inform us at check-in that it was daylight savings and that we should change our clocks. We didn't realize this and were 1 hour behind the whole next day. We almost picked up our kids late from ski-school because of this. Also, the hotel provided a continental breakfast that the front desk clerk neglected to inform us about. We accidently found this out on the morning of check-out. The hotel itself was very comfortable and lovely, but front desk staff needs to be more thoroughly trained.

For such a beautiful place the room was disappointing. Small and uniniviting. Maid service was awful- no clean coffee cups, towels-= looked like all they did was make up the bed.
Need ice buckets and ice machines for the room. Eating places are scarce and not open at all times- if they want to be a year round resort they need to add more service and better pricing.

Studio description neglected to mention murphy bed but once over that, we couldn't complain. Can't beat the beauty of the setting. Great location for exploring both Durango and Silverton/Ouray/million $ highway at a super summer price. Can't figure out why they are minimizing the old Purgatory name.
