Welcome to Durango, the heart of Colorado and number 39; old and new west. Durango has been a bustling railroad town since the 1880s and today you can still ride the historic steam train from downtown, just a short drive from the Super 8, through the beautiful San Juan Mountains, to the quaint mining town of Silverton. If you are looking for a little more excitement, you can swoosh down the slopes of the nearby Durango Mountain ski resort in the winter, raft the raging Animas River during the spring snow melt, or golf in the lushness of a high mountain summer at the famous Hillcrest golf course. You can finish your day by enjoying a delicious meal in any of the town's excellent restaurants and then return to your comfortable room for a good nights rest. The next morning, to speed you on your way, we provide coffee makers in all our rooms so that you can have your first cup as soon as you wake up. Free High Speed Internet, hairdryers and coffeemakers in all rooms. Smoking and Non Smoking Rooms Available.

Went there for soccer games.

The super 8 is clean, but needs new pillows. Desk person said they were to update hotel. Breakfast was good. The usual bagels, bread, fruit, cereal and yogurt.

Average Accommodation

Your basic hotel. From check in to the room to the breakfast - nothing special and all needed work. Toasters didn't work; coffee machines had no pods; air conditioning/ heating units were old and noisy. It is a basic hotel experience. I probably would not return.

Dining tip: Short drive from hotel

Serious Texas BBQ - across the highway. Great BBQ at a budget price.

best deal in town

This was s good deal for a basic, clean room that you would expect from a national chain motel. Most of the other places we checked were twice the price just so you could be a little closer to town. We did have a problem with the mixing valve on the sink, which was reversed, and we talked to management about it. The manager said that she had been at the motel for several years and had never seen a problem like that (I've found the problem to be fairly common, especially if there has been a recent remodel). Originally, the manager had tried to contact me the day after I informed the corporate office of the problem however, I was not home when she called. When I did return her call she was not there and I did not hear from her for over three days so I finally called her back. That was the point where I was trying to explain to her the possible consequences of an accidental scalding that could be avoided by merely checking the mixing valves. She was so busy trying to tell me why she couldn't take the time to do it she never allowed me the opportunity to suggest that house keeping perform the check as they cleaned each room. They're running that water anyway cleaning the room.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

do Mesa Verda early because of the construction that is oning. Check that Four Conners is open because it too is under constuction four days a week and the public is not allowed access. Four Conners constuction is planned to end by the end of July and as of 5/20/2010, that looked like they would make it

Mediocre

Average hotel at an average rate. Nothing special what so ever about this hotel. The continental breakfast was small and didn't have much but there was coffee, the rooms were alright but nothing great. Hotel staff also couldn't change the room from a single king to a double queen at the time of check in even though rooms were available. [...]
