Hotel of years gone by
The staff was personable and friendly from the moment I arrived, if overwhelmed by the 3 people in line. When I reached my room, however, the otherwise acceptable experience came to an abrupt halt. I was placed in a smoking room that had carpet dotted with everything from cigar and cigarette burns to some mystery lines melted in the very dated pattern. After a few hours I managed to wrestle the closet doors from the track and stacked them in the corner of the room. This avoided their inevitable collapse whenever I needed to access my luggage. At night I was softly lulled to sleep on my lumpy mattress by the soothing tones of a running toilet. In short, it is long over due for a top to bottom face lift.

When you arrive at the airport be sure to take the city bus to downtown. It will drop you off about 2 blocks from the hotel after no more than 35 minutes on a clean bus. This will avoid the $50.00 cab ride that also takes 35 minutes.

Wasn't what I expected
This hotel changed ownership to a Ramada - one week before I checked in. So, upon checkin- I was already disturbed that I was not going to get any points - and that Orbitz did not advise me of the change and give me an opportunity to rebook. The hotel rooms were clean - but that is about where the positive feedback ends. It's in a very awkward geographical location, the lobby smells like mildew and there seems to be very few staff working. Downtown Hartford is virtually a Ghost town - unless you are brave enough to try to few restaurants or you like the bar scene. So, don't look to this hotel as a relaxing haven.

Not bad
Hartford is a commuter city so I didn't expect the weekends to be so 'dead' - not even Starbucks was open! Ended up spending most of our time in surrounding towns. Hotel bar staff was terrible - 25 minutes for a quesedella and when asked what the delay was we were advised the chef had to cook the beef. Really? There was more conversation among the bored staff than with customers. One customer didn't finish his meal and when asked why he said it wasn't very good. The bartenders reply was 'that's fair' with no offer of another meal or some type of compensation. Flowers at the front desk sat in moldy water for 3 days - disgusting. Changed rooms due to the mold on the AC unit. Witnessed one irate customer at the front desk complaining about his AC being out. Several times there were no towels at the pool. Ice machine on the 8th floor was out of order. Finally, keys were deactivated on the third day - was advised by front desk it was because we were staying beyond the week end and it happened automatically. Oh, and our AC was intermittent during the last 2 days. If it weren't for the fees we would have been charged, we would have checked out after 2 days. [...]

We just needed a place to stay for the night while in Connecticut. The room was clean, nicely set up for us.

Convenient and comfortable
Very convenient downtown location. Very clean and pleasantly appointed rooms. Staff was very helpful. Free wifi was a big plus. Plenty of parking for a nominal fee.

Picked Right Place For Area
Ok place if you just want place to sleep. No place close to eat or walk around. Tip already added to room service.

Not a happy camper
Hold on to your $
I went to Hartford, CT to meet the in-laws. I figured we stay at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Valentine wk-end for some quality time with my other half. However the stay didn't wow me. I've stood in hotel rooms in Manhattan for less $ and walked away impressed. During check-in I wasn't offered any assistance with my luagage. The room's lamp was disconnected, so I had to pull the night stand and cross over an electrical wire to the other side of the bed just to plug the lamp. It was filthy behind the night stand. My trousers got very dirty I had to take them off. The toilet would fill all the way up until it would eventually flush, yuck I know. The [...]breakfast up-grade was not worth it since for a few bucks less you can get breakfast room serviced instead of going down stairs to the caffeteria and choose from counter pastries. The cheff wasn't friendly at all. While there was no one else in the cafeteria he forgot to add ham to my omlett. Not a happy camper :(

Good Location, Service Sucks
The Location is good as smack in Downtown. I travel to Hartford often and mostly use Homewood/Hilton, but since both were booked this time, tried Crone Plaza out. The rooms were ok, but the food was stale and bad. Thats ok though, can live with. The real nightmare was 2 things: a) No refund for the one night less that I stayed. I mean what age are we living in? b) Here comes the big one: I booked the hotel shuttle to the Airport at 5 am. I was not informed of any procedure while booking. When I came down at 455, the shuttle had left! Then when I asked for a cab, it took 25 mins for one to arrive, and I missed my flight back to LA :( If you know how it is to get tickets in the first place on the Presidents' day weekend, you'll know my agony.

great location but not worth the money
Great location but not worth the money. The bathroom was very outdated, dirty & there was blood on the white shower curtain. I would rather have stayed a little out of downtown for less money.

Barely Acceptable
I was in Hartford for a family emergency. It was the first time I traveled to Connecticut as an adult and I was (and still am) unfamiliar with the area. [...] The hotel rooms are fine - spacious enough with sufficient amenities for business or short-term, casual travel. However, the hotel food was inedible (thai chicken pasta arrived swimming in peanut butter - not peanut sauce, peanut butter). The staff, with a few notable exceptions, was unprofessional, untrained and unfriendly. On several occasions, calls to reception went unanswered after 20-30 rings. No one came to clean my room until after 4:00 p.m. But the very worst part of the experience was the noise. The insulation between the rooms was so poor I woke up every time the couple next door to me had a conversation or opened a door. It got bad enough that I actually checked out of the hotel early and stayed with family the last night.

Dining tip:
Long walk from hotel
Dining in Hartford was abysmal - and choices on a Sunday evening downtown were particularly sparse. Morton's, which is a couple of blocks from the hotel, is open (and serving until 10 p.m.). While our meal there was not great - and definitely over-priced - it was much better than the horrible faux-Mexican "pubs" that were suggested by the front desk.
