Great value w/a shuttle, but steer clear of the breakfast

I picked this hotel because it was the nicest one that offered a shuttle to/from the airport and other spots around New Haven. (Not sure what the max. distance is, but reasonably far. If you tip the drivers, they're happy to take you wherever.) The shuttle runs from 7am until 7pm (pretty sure -- that's within 1h either way, at least) . They run every 30min., and you can either schedule your trip ahead or call when you're ready and wait on them.
The rooms are nice. It's an extended stay type place, so you have a full kitchen w/popcorn & coffee stocked, a living room, and a nice little bathroom off to the side. Also, the rooms are like little apartments. Kind of nice because it's quieter. On the other hand, you then have to brave Connecticut weather to get to the lobby/gym/etc..
*Wired* internet is free in the rooms, but no wi-fi. My Verizon phone got 4 bars of 3G service everywhere in the hotel.

We only stayed for one night, but the staff was very friendly. The room was very cozy with kitchen area and fireplace. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Our only complaint is that the shower did not drain well. The sink area is separate from the toilet / shower which is nice but the room with toilet and shower was not well ventilated.

Nice location, near restaurants and Peabody Museum. VERY helpful concierge, gave me directions to avoid traffic driving home at the end of my stay.

closest hotel to Yale campus in New Haven

it's very very close (5 min walk to the main library) to the main campus, which is the most important part to me because I don't want to walk too much. The bad thing it is actually located at the border of a bad neighborhood. Overall, it's an ideal place for a short stay and visiting Yale is your priority!

We were visiting Yale University with our son. It was a pleasant experience although the parking was quite expensive at $15. We liked the ice that was available in the hallway; it was 100 degrees.
The room itself was nothing remarkable, but I liked that there was free wi-fi available and a rollout desk. In general, sleeping was difficult as we're away from home. However, the bed was very comfortable.

Good location for the price

I stayed in a suite that was very reasonably priced. The hotel was very decent. The complimentary breakfast was far better than any other hotel I have ever stayed in. A good pick if you are not looking for something over the top, but want to be comfortable, and not in a hotel that is under rated.

The hotel was nice, clean, and basic - no frills, but nice front desk staff. They also had a computer and printer that could be used in the lobby free of charge. The continental breakfast was somewhat lacking - not much there, and didn't seem very fresh.
They did provide a free shuttle to Yale campus as well, which was very helpful. Bottom line, I'd recommend it for the price.

good for visiting yale, if you have a car

i have to visit Yale periodically for work. this is one of the cheapest places in town, is clean enough inside (make sure to request non-smoking, if that's your thing), and is conveniently located across the street from a walmart. getting to campus is easy: you just hop on the freeway and in a few exits, youre there. simple, easy.

Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable, but the halls smelled like cigarette smoke.
The location was close to the freeway and a lot of restaurants and shopping. The rush hour traffic was heavy and we had a street side room so it was noisy, but who cares? We were not there to enjoy the quiet.
Overall a satisfactory experience.

Sign-in clerk was between rude and non-communicative. Most of his comments included two words, Sign here. The corridors smelled like urine. The room was adequate for the price. The breakfast was almost adequate but 2 toasters would have speeded the process. The morning clerk was friendly and very helpful (making it difficult to rate the staff as if it were one.) The neighborhood is disadvantaged; we were buzzed in at night as it was dark, not a comfortable feeling.

This hotel should get zero stars. It really is awful. It might be inexpensive (cheap), but in this case, you still don't get what you pay for. The baseboards were coming off the walls, the tub and other bathroom fixtures were worn and dirty, the heat would either stay on and cook you or stay off and freeze you. There was no shampoo, soap or tissue. The door looked like it had been broken into.
It was so bad that even though we had pre-paid for a week, we left after one night.

This was my third stay at the Study and all have been satisfying. New Haven does not have much hotel competition for the Study. It is right on campus, very modern, Euro-style and yet very comfortable. Rooms are small but the lobby and bar are excellent for visiting. My first choice in New Haven.
