Great Hotel
Very european chic hotel. Glad we were upgraded to a deluxe room because the rooms were on the small side, but very well appointed, clean and comfortable. Would recommend

First-class value
Super staff, very good location--I walked everywhere I needed to go--to a conference meeting, to the Mall for sightseeing, and to restaurants in between. Room was cozy and on the small side, but very nicely appointed. I was able to book at last minute for four nights--worked out great.

Overdesigned and inaccurate marketing
This hotel seemed to be the perfect hotel in downtown. I was looking for a hotel that was walking distance to the National Mall in DC, that had a pool and that appeared to be more than just a bed where my wife and I could enjoy a unique experience. It turned out to be "just a bed" in every aspect. - First off, parking was an extra 42$ per night, where the hotel description casually listed "parking" as an amenity. I decided to park on the streets over night then getting to the car before 7am to move it to a parking structure during the day for around 15$ for the whole day). You can imagine this is really frustrating, but I wasn't about to double make this hotel stay 50% more expensive than what I paid. - The "HEATED outdoor pool", that supposedly turns into a hot spot at night for the local community was closed throughout my stay (January). The pool was one of the reasons I picked the Donovan House. - There was no breakfast included. Granted it was not listed in the hotel description, and it was more an assumption I made from my other hotel experiences. - At first glance and in photos, the room has a unique design, but when you live there you notice that they are prettied up to the point of inconvenience. For example, in the bathroom you kind of dial in the temperature (pressure doesn't change, not like just plain mixing hot and cold water), but the water pressure was very low. A shower took 3 times as long as it usually does. I had decided to pick the Donovan house despite the higher relative price as a "treat" for my wife and myself, and it was honestly disappointing where I feel I could have gotten more from a nameless hotel. Bottom line: it's fine if you won't have a car, but it's not worth paying any extra.

Swanky, yet comfortable
Overall, a very pleasant experience! The decor is inviting & classy and the staff are extremely helpful & friendly. We did have to ask for extra pillows and there didn't seem to be a flat sheet provided on the bed. These were minor issues, easily resolved with a call to the front desk. Their free lobby WiFi was down during my stay so I was graciously given free access in my room while they sorted out the problem. (I do feel that the WiFi should be free throughout, however.)

Money-saving tip:
Not Applicable
This hotel was easily accessible from the airport via the Metro. I'd recommend putting a little cash on a fare card if you are in town for a short stay. D.C. 1-day Metro cards expire after 3am and are NOT truly a 24 hour pass from your first ride (like in some cities). Stick to the per ride fares.

Great Hotel!
This hotel was great. My wife and I stayed here for two nights and had a great time. It is only a 10 minute walk from the White House and we also spent an afternoon in Dupont Circle which was only 15 minutes away. The room was clean and neat. We ran out of soap at one point and the front desk was very good about sending up a few bars. We did not eat at the restaurant because it seemed a little pricey but there are plenty of restaurants in the surrounding neighborhood. The hotel was nice and clean. I would recommend it to friends or family.

Short walk from hotel
The mall is only about a 15 minute walk away. You don't need a cab to get there. Start at the White House, head to the Lincoln Memorial and then on to Congress while stopping at a few museuems along the way.

It was just Ok!
Parking was $42 a night, which we thought was crazy for a stay at a already costly hotel. The hotel was very modern but the pictures make it look better than what it really looks like in person. The staff failed to tell me they will be charging my card $50 per night for incidentals as well. My room also smelled like cigarettes which was nasty!! The location was great though.

Great modern hotel
We have stayed at the Donovan House a few times and overall our experiences have been very good. The rooms are clean and comfortable. I love the modern look of the hotel. It is about 1.5 miles to the National Mall which is totally fine for us to walk, especially in decent weather. Some people might prefer a hotel that is a bit closer if you plan to spend most of your time in that area. Negatives: the parking garage is pretty expensive ($42 per night). and on our last trip the staff messed up our wake up call twice (once they called three hours earlier and once about 10 min late).
