The Embassy Inn is currently a thirty eight room bed and breakfast hotel. The Inn originated in 1910 as an eight unit apartment house. In 1919 it was further renovated into a thirty room tourist hotel. The current owners re-opened the inn in 1987 as a thirty eight room hotel. The Embassy Inn's moldings, mosaic entrance tiles, and marble stairway are original and its furnishings are simple and comfortable reproduction antiques. Start each morning with an expanded continental breakfast to get you going for the day's activities. The neighborhood includes the Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan areas with many diverse restaurants and shops to explore. The Inn is easily accessible to Washington's business district, museums, monuments, and universities. The White House is only 10 blocks south of the Inn, and the National Zoo is also nearby. The front desk staff can assist with dining, theater, sight-seeing, and transportation information and arrangements throughout your stay.

A place to sleep...

...but not much else. Convenient for day-tripping in downtown DC at a reasonable rate, but you won't spend any time in your room. 1 block away from a CapitalBikes rental rack (best way to get about town)..

"Embassy Inn" Stay

The staff was very nice, friendly and professional. The room I stayed in, however, #405 was tiny, the bed sagged a great deal in the middle (and should be replaced asap) and there was NO closet. Only a hat rack in the corner with one hanger. I also requested a folding valet to place my suitcase on but was told none was available. The price was right but the lack of a closet and having to keep my suitcase on the floor was a bit too spartan. The big beautiful tree in the photo featured on this website is gone because of a large sewer construction project out front and to the right of the front door as you approach with a big hole with sheets of plywood over it. They are going to have to really clean up the front yard and do a face lift on the front of this hotel. It is more than a bit of a mess out front right now. The morning breakfast is a carbohydrate heavy menu: pastries, donuts, croissants, oatmeal, cereal, orange juice. The only protein available that I could tell was the milk for your coffee or cereal. The lobby just upstairs from the front desk is small but charming, however, and there is one PC to access the internet, though it is not hooked up to a printer and the only way to print out your boarding ticket is to email it to the front desk... which I declined. All in all, I would still stay here again but would make sure I got a better room with a closet and a folding valet for my suitcase. I would recommend it to a friend because the pricing is fair but I would mention the limitations (above). The location is convenient to night life and transportation.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

"Five Guys", the burger joint (chain) has a location in Dupont Circle. Try the cheeseburger. If you are an In 'n Out Fan from out west you will be pleasantly surprised at how good this burger is! The staff is nice too and they were playing 80's/90's Rock 'n Roll on the speaker system, e.g., and singing happily to the lyrics of Foreigner's "Urgent".

Good if you don't get room nº 204.

The hotel in average is good, the only bad thing is thay we got a room just next to the reception so we could hear everything (loud phone ring, wall banging, conversations). So earplugs are a must. On the other hand, nice breakfast and staff.

Great value

Great location. Very close to sites and any type of restaurant. Comfortable room even though we had a full size bed. A queen size bed would have been better. Our room was in the front of the building which was a little noisy. Could have had an iron and board in the room for convenience. We had to return ours by the next morning. Beware of parking restrictions!!!!! Unloaded car, got back to car by 4 pm already had a $100 ticket. Breakfast was good, but loaded with carbs. Free wifi which was nice and coffee and tea throughout the day which was a nice touch. We would stay there again.

Overnight stay

I chose the hotel because it was close to where I needed to go for an interview. I was staying basically overnight. The room was ok.. the shower curtain had some mold on it. The bed was firm, which I like but most other people don't. The staff were nice enough. FYI - the breakfast starts at 7am, so if you need to head out of the hotel before that you're out of luck. The place was quiet though and adequate enough for an overnight stay.

Room was very small for the price, but it was very close to the gay bars on 17th street.

Clean hotel!

Hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. Hotel was clean. Beds were comfy. We took our bikes down and the location was perfect for that. It is too far to walk in the heat of summer. Only wish the hotel had parking and wish the room had a refrigerator. The parking in DC is horrible and it cost us $64 to park our car for two days in a garage and we parked and left it. We didn't go in and out at all. The hotel has a very small ice machine and was not enough to keep our cooler cold.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

If the weather is nice and you are just sightseeing in DC, take your bikes. It is great exercise and you don't have to pay to take the tours since it cost a fortune to park your car anywhere.
