The staff were helpful and polite..

Went to DC for vacation, chose this hotel due to location, room appeared to be clean, accidently split some salad dressing on the carpet. I wet a washcloth to "dab" up the dressing, was shocked to see how dirty the washcloth got, it was like I had used it to wipe off a shoe that had been in the mud. I was shocked. I found a convenience store and bought some Lysol cleaner for the bathroom. The wallpaper in the bathroom was pealing off, the tile in the bathroom needed to be recalked and the tub needed to be reglazed. The cleaning staff spent very little time in the room. On the positive side, the room was quiet and we did have very warm water for showers. I was very disapointed, I would have expected better and cleaner rooms from hotels costing half as much. The workout room was nice with good equipment, however it was so warm in there, I didn't want to stay in there.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

We chose the Open Top Bus Tour, I would recomment this to my friends as a good buy and worth the money. The L'enfant plaza is a short distance from the hotel (1 1/2 blocks), which offers rides via the Metro to most all locations, including the Union Station. When given the choice, take the Metro instead of the MARC.

Good location, close to mall and Metro

Room was nothing spectacular, just average. Beds were too firm for us. Seemed over priced for us but comparable given the city and the location. A little over a block away to a Metro stop and about 2 blocks to the mall which was great. Did not eat there so we cannot comment on that. Did park there and from reading other reviews I was prepared for the price, we paid $28 a day to park there, garage was confusing though. Overall pleased with the experience but probably would not stay there again because we used Metro so much, we would find a lower priced room close to a Metro stop.

Would Return

We stayed in this hotel while driving back and forth to Vienna, McLean and Herndon. Without traffic it was a 25 minute drive to Herndon. We walked around the mall and Smithsonians and back to the hotel, no taxi needed. Friendly front desk service, clean rooms, good location. YEH for the Starbucks in the lobby!

You may want a taxi to get to farther memorials like the Lincoln and Jefferson but we walked to the Washington Monument with no problem in addition to 4 Smithsonian Museums and the Navy Memorial. There were many more within walking distance also. You will need a taxi for the Zoo or National Cathedral

Holiday Inn Washington-Capitol July 2009

We were mostly only at the hotel to sleep. The food at the hotel was okay, but not great. The room was great. Very roomy, clean, lots of towels, air conditioning. I really liked it there

research places to eat before you leave home. The food was okay at the hotel, but kind of expensive. Very few places to eat close my the hotel. No place near to have a nice, fancy dinner.

Awesome location, nice hotel, good servi

This is a great hotel and an awesome location. I loved the idea of the free kids meals but felt like I overpaid on the the adult meals to compensate for it. The pool was cold.

What a great place!!

If you are on the "quiet side," this hotel is the best you can get, especially for the price. Location is the greatest, pool is great, room was great, and staff couldn't have been greater. Other than having to wait to 3:00 pm to check in (already knew that), this place was perfect for a family w/an 8 year old!

convenient location - mattress terrible

Due to the rates, we could only afford to stay 1 night. The parking rates should have been included in the stay. The person that worked in the gift shop followed us around as if we were going to steal something. I didn't appreciate that at all. I had a hard time understanding most of the the people that worked at your front desk. I also told them about the lopsided bed mentioned above

Better than most

The location is excellent in terms of accessing The Mall. The room was clean; the air conditioning worked, which was good, considering the heat & humidity. The breakfast for room service was late by 15 minutes, which was frustrating, since the reason for wanting room service in the first place was a tight schedule that morning and not wanting to deal with the uncertainty of a sit-down meal. The pool is pleasant, but two out of the three times we used it in the evening, there were no towels. When I asked the hotel pool attendant for more towels, the first seemed put out; and the second was able to find just two towels for the two of us. The cleaning staff, when we encountered them, were very polite and thorough. All in all, it was a good stay, not perfect, but good.

Dining tip: In Hotel

The hotel has two eating options, both of which were ok. I wish we had been more aggressive in finding other lunch and dinner eating options, which seem to be well-hidden in that part of DC. They're there, but a person really has to hunt for them. The concierge was not very helpful when we asked for a dinner place that served good salads. He told us we would have to travel to find that. In retrospect, he could have offered other meal ideas for closer places.
