5 star my butt
Day one: had to wait three hours to get into the room; view was not breathtaking. Day two: no ice machines must wait half an hour for service to bring it up. Day three: walked to a room I had never been to by staff where I supposedly left my bag...not my bag, not my room. Day four: fortyfive minutes for ice Day five locked out of the room. Couldn't get back in for an hour. Day six locked out again...too pi**ed off to ask for ice.

The Mandarin was a lovely hotel,
The Mandarin was a lovely hotel, the only matter which was disappointing was the location. The garden at the back was lovely but unfortunately bordered by a very busy road (and rail track) which meant it was not an area to relax in. Also the tables were not provided with umbrellas to shade from the sun which meant out of bounds during the hot midday sun onwards. The location was also disappointing in the sense that to reach the hotel by foot you had to go under a bridge (whichever way you approached) which was inhabited by homeless persons - not terribly comfortable with that! The staff were very nice and attentive but overall I would say nice hotel but location not so nice.

Great deal at a great hotel!
Wonderful hotel--rooms and facilities very nice. Business center closes at 7--problematic but staff was willing to help me out. Food was very tasty--coffee shop part was the only restaurant open on Monday night, however. Fine dining is Tues. thru Sat.

Short drive from hotel
You need to take a cab to the Mall and other Capitol highlights, since this is down by the wharf. The rooms overlooking the river made this problem less upsetting.

Pleasant Getaway in the City
The hotel and ambience was spectacular. I would not recommend for families, more for couples and business travelers.

Nicely furnised rooms. Location
Nicely furnised rooms. Location may be ideal if you like the quieter side of DC and being nearer the Mall. SOme may hate it if you like shopping and restaurants just outside your hotel, We found it very pleasant and quiet. Good service but could have done with a few more amenities to make it truly 5 star...like bedroom slippers, toothbrushes, combs, shaver...Food quality was good at breakfast and at lunch. Would come again.

Cheated!!
Very nice Hotel. Very nice staff. I paid for a suite but was given a regular room (~$360 per night difference). They did not refund me the full price difference. This totally soured an otherwise very classy hotel. I would stay here again because it is a very nice hotel, but I would be much less trusting of the "we will take care of it later" line.

Not for those with poorly lined pockets.
First visit for me in Washington. Typical sightseeing frenzy. Lots of walking and lots of sore muscles and aching body. If money is no object, then you'll love it here. This is a beautiful hotel, BUT extremely pricey. If you don't have lots of money do not venture forth. With room service fees, tax and gratuity every meal is a big deal. Concierge, front desk, housekeeping and room service personnel were all very curteous and effective. Couldn't recommend to my friends since I don't travel in circles such as this.

Short drive from hotel
Take advantage of the Kennedy Center for the Arts. We took in the "Shear Madness" interactive play and had a very enjoyable time. The KC Cafe had good food at reasonable prices. Great night out.
