Family getaway

Went of a week getaway with two young children. The hotel is located right in the heart of the action. We walked everywhere and enjoyed all the amenities the hotel had to offer including the pool, hot tub, and beach service. You do need to pay of beach umbrella.

Getaway with the wife

The hotel was very clean and the staff was courteous. We stayed in the loft sweet, which wasn't a loft, just a slightly bigger hotel room. Our room was on the fourth floor and from midnight to 5am, there was music blasting at the club downstairs, which kept us awake. They did change our room the next day with no problem at all. The restaurant staff was slow and a bit unorganized. We received our lunch and still had to wait 5 minutes to receive napkins and utencils, after asking numerous times. A simple breakfast for 2 is $50-$60. Unfortunately the weather was rainy, windy and overcast the entire time, so we weren't able to use the pool or go down to the beach, which made the $21 per person extra fee a waste. Overall, the hotel is really nice and clean. The concierge was terrific.

Not a 5 star hotel

This hotel was ordinary and looking dated. Perhaps it was a 5 star hotel many years ago, but not anymore. If we had paid half the rate we were charged, satisfaction would have been higher. Several relatively minor issues during our 4 day stay, including irregular housekeeping that we had to keep calling about, overcharging for an umbrella on the beach, and room keys that wouldn't work. The room was Ok, but we were charged a substantial premium for a balcony that was just barely larger than a juliet balcony. There was nowhere to sit on the balcony either. All in all, not a bad hotel or bad staff. But there was nothing to make this a 5 star hotel.

Nice place, a bit overpriced

I'll start with the bad stuff: there were a lot of technical problems when we checked in. First, a reservation that I had cancelled was still in their system. Our room was not ready even though it was 4PM when we arrived. We waited 10-15 minutes for the key-making machine to work, which it never did (someone had to personally let us in the room) and then when we were told it was working again, had to wait another 10-15 minutes while they tried (because apparently it still wasn't working). Finally, the gate that lets you from the beach back into the property wasn't working and never did get fixed during our stay (affecting not just us but all guests). We paid something like $340, and the room we were supposed to get was very small. On the other hand, because our room wasn't ready and it was so late, they gave us a free upgrade to a larger and nicer room. Staff was helpful and apologetic about the problems. Location was perfect, building is pretty, amenities were fine, bed was clean and comfortable. All in all, an ok stay. Even in that area, $340 was a bit pricey for the experience. But I wouldn't tell anyone to NOT go there; it's a fine hotel and I really do appreciate the upgrade they gave us.

James Hotel was amazing

The hotel was great, it didn't have that weird awkwardness smell that hotel usually do. They have a pools and an outdoor Jacuzzi that was open 24/7. Also an outdoor sitting area and a bar. Upstairs there was a swimming pool with breakfast area/buffet, the food was little pricey but also very very delicious and fresh. They also have a spot on the beach where they serviced us. Was about 5-10 feet away from the hotel, towels provided. The best part that we used the most was the concierge. It was free as well, and they have knowledge of all the area. Was very easy to decide and book with them. It is hard to find parking in the city, the hotel offered us bikes to ride, it was free as well. The hotel also have a spa inside, if you are planning on using it make sure you book a slot BEFORE you arrive. Room service is very expensive but worth it especially if it is raining. Check out was 2pm, and we had about 6 hours before we had to go to the airport, the hotel stored our bags for free until we had to head to the airport. We didn't' have to worry about taking them with us to the beach or anything.. BARS are open till 5 am around town and there are a lot of parties so there is a lot to do.

2 block down from James, called Bianca's (its also hotel). AMAZING food, very romantic for couples and also very classy for a group eat out. Inside, outside eating. We sat outside, we had multiple waitress/waiters. For dinner, we had the veal ravioli, was very delicious, also had the fish dish, it comes in a big bowl and it was a big piece, and we also had the filet mignion, was cooked perfectly, it came with potates, they were delicious as well. For deserts, we had the Gelato and the cheesecake. both were big pieces and tastes very authentic.

Great South Beach Weekend getaway place

Great location, walk straight out to the beach. Very much right in the center of Soith Beach. You can walk everywhere if you wish. Ocean view was everything promised. Our balcony was very private. When the room was not ready in time the staff comped some things to show use that they were sensitive to the delay. Hotel management is present everywhere and seemed genuinely interested in making our stay excellent. Even the beach attendants were hustling around trying their best to please. Brings lots of cash for tips though. Great south beach experience. Highly reccomended.

Not a 5 Star Hotel

This is my 3rd time staying at this hotel. I love the location. It is right in the heart of South Beach - a block from Lincoln Road Mall and Ocean Drive. The staff was very friendly however they were not on one accord with the amenities. I did enjoy the complimentary bikes available. But breakfast is not included. I read many reviews on websites that said breakfast was included but some people get vouchers and some do not. Not sure how this works. Same with the complimentary happy hour drink. Some people get vouchers, some do not. I was disappointed that I paid 5 star money for a 4 star hotel. I will definitely stay again just with less expectation. The room was nice and clean but a little tight. The resort fee of 21 per day gets you an umbrella and 2 lounge chairs beach front. This was nice but of course you are paying for it.

A Fun Weekend in South Beach

Hotel was very stylish with Mid-Century, Modern design in soft ocean/beach colors. Pool area next to beach was nice although too small for total number of guests using the facility. Finishings and furniture in room were high quality, comfortable bed & pillows, nicely stocked mini-bar. Only compliant was over-all size of room: we "upgraded" from the standard room to have an ocean view and sitting area but still was really cramped and view of ocean was off the side, not direct. Definitely would get a Suite next time.
