If the walls could talk..the Historic Columbus Marriott's walls could tell a colorful history. The 177-room hotel is built around a restored cotton mill that began operations in 1861. The original brick was refurbished and converted into Columbus' convention hotel being directly across from the Trade Center. Now a national landmark the hotel houses 2 two-story suites with loft bedrooms, 5 meeting rooms, the Grist Mill Coffee Shop and Houlihan's restaurant. Conveniently located just 5 miles from Ft. Benning, GA and within blocks of Fortune 500 companies such as AFLAC Headquarters and TSYS, the hotel is home to busy business travelers who enjoy first-class accommodations within a distinctive setting. The Columbus Marriott is conveniently located within walking distance to Columbus State University, the RiverCenter for Performing Arts, Springer Opera House, Coca Cola Space Science Center, the beautiful Riverwalk and in the heartbeat of Columbus' entertainment district and across the river from Phenix City, AL.

Great weekend getaway

We. traveled to Columbus to visit our daughter at Columbus State University. The Marriott was the perfect location to her dorm which is downtown. Our location provided us the opportunity to visit the downtown revitalization and eat at some of the best little restaurants in Columbus. Did I mention that the Marriott had the best sleeping beds I have ever laid down to sleep on? The staff was so friendly. I thought that I had known them forever. I am looking forward to visiting our daughter once she returns from Italy. She is enrolled in a summer course there through CSU. I loved my experience at the Mariott and will definitely stay there again.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

The Black Cow and Ruth Ann's restaurants are worth your time and money. They both have the best food. The walk is very interesting because you are able to window shop at some uninique new businesses. I am sure you can visit other chain restaurants but these little restaurants are the greatest. Their staff has the best southern manners anywhere.

Great place to stay!

This hotel was a great launching pad for a night on the town! We had tickets to a Broadway show at the venue across the street, and it's also convenient to all the places we usually go in Uptown Columbus. It's great being able to park and walk to everything, and not worry about driving home! The hotel staff were all very friendly, although the housekeeping staff was rather chatty right outside our door when we were trying to sleep in. The restaurant was very good, with a good variety of offerings and a decent selection of wines. Service was good, and we were seated right away, even though it was a show night. I have stayed at this hotel once before, but without booking in advance, and I must say that the rate I found here is excellent!

Entertainment tip: Short walk from hotel

The Columbus Rivercenter is a very nice and modern venue, and hosts some excellent Broadway shows! It's a cultural oasis in this military/industrial city. Uptown Columbus in general has become a favorite place, with a variety of restaurants, night spots, shops and entertainment options, all within a few blocks.

Very pleasantly surprised

I'm used to good experiences at most Marriott's, however, I was pleasantly surprised by the character and comfort of the rooms at this Marriott. Due to the historical nature of the section in which we stayed, there were high ceilings and exposed brick and wood beams....very cool. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay there again if back in Columbus, Ga.

No HOT water

We had to skip showers and baths for the kids because a boiler broke and took all morning to fix. Eventually this was fixed, but when away from home, I want to have hot water to take a shower.

Nice hotel with history to boot

This hotel was in a very convenient location-- easy walking distance to the RiverWalk and downtown shops and restuarants. The front desk staff was extremely courteous. We had a toilet issue when we got to our room, but a friendly maintenance guy came up right away and fixed it. Our room was very nice and the hotel had character and history, too. I would definitely stay there again and would recommend it. Only drawbacks: no breakfast and Internet service wasn't free.

Great Hotel

The hotel was beautiful and very clean. The bed, linens, and pillows were very comfortable. Our bathroom was exceptionally clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There is a Houlihan's restaurant and a Starbucks in the hotel. We would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful, clean, and friendly

I had a lovely time at this hotel. It was very clean and the staff members were very attentive. The shuttle service was wonderful and [...] was informative during the ride. I enjoyed the walks on Broadway with its varying eateries, musicians on the side walks, and the ice cream shop called Brothers. A must see! My discontent is only about the distance from Fort Benning to the hotel. I wish the hotel was closer. I came to Georgia to see my son graduate from Frot Benning. I found it to be an eye opening experience. Thus far, upon my journey aroud our world, I have had pleasurable experiences on my trips. But then again, I do my best to ensure satisfaction. So, I am happy to say that I would stay at this hotel again.

Take time to find out about all the eateries on Broadway. Some spots had really good food, and live music.

My hotel experience

My hotel experience is always good at the Columbus Marriot, however the experience at Houlihans was not the best! Service was slow, the batendar inside was obviously preoccupied, beers were not cold and late coming out...add insult injury, my debit card did not come with my check and I LEFT it there

Disappointed

I would expect more from a Marriot. At this location, they make guests pay for internet access - who does that anymore? The bathroom had dirt that had accumulated on the floor. The check-in staff was not the most helpful. Overall, I would stay somewhere else next time.
