We really enjoyed staying at Avia and couldn't think of a better place to stay while we were in Savannah. The hotel staff was excellent from check-in to check-out. This includes everyone from the front desk, service staff, concierge, bartenders, door men, etc. The hotel is perfectly situated for you to walk to shops, head on down to River street, explore old mansions and walking distances to great restaurants and nightlife. We really enjoyed the pool as well during our time there especially since it was unseasonably warm. Hotel Avia is well worth the money and delivers great value.

$50.00 for a pet.

  • JJ fort myers
  • 17 May 2012
The price seemed too good. Only $100.00 a week night. Then I was told that there is a non-refundable $50.00 fee for having a pet in the room. Come on now, for a 20 pound Sheltie! They would not cancel the booking so I was forced to pay up!

staff was friendly. brought fresh popped popcorn to room and an extra towel w/in 15 minutes of checking in. arrived early for event and they let us park there so we could walk to River st. using the parking pass they would have given us at check in. that was great! Lemonade in lobby was a welcome sight after getting back from the walk in Savannah. only complaint was no microwave,no pool. A/c worked, but was really cold on person by unit and took a while to reach other side of room.

This hotel was nice overall and I have a great trip. Pretty friendly staff and nice rooms. The walk to the strip wasn't more than a few blocks away which only took a few minutes. The downside of the hotel is the valet parking which is the only parking available for the hotel. Keep in mind, the additional $20 for the parking plus tip is on top of the original hotel price.

Quick One Day in Savannah

  • EMLW
  • 20 May 2012
The Courtyard was very nice and we were able to get a very good rate. The visitor center was across the street and we took a tour trolley from there. It's a long walk to the riverfront and city market areas but not undoable. There are many hotels closer to the action but they were far more expense. Much better than being outside the historic district. My only gripe: No fridge, microwave or free breakfast. I get that if you have a full service restaurant you don't want to compete with it but they have a pantry in which they sell microwavable meals but you have to wave them in the pantry - silly really. But - Savannah has so many great resaurants it's a shame to eat in your hotel room :) The only other negative was that due to the traffic in Savannah when we were checking out (midday on a Saturday) it took them an hour to get our car from the garage - just a heads up for planning purposes. Overall I would stay there again if the price was right.

We enjoyed our stay at Planter's Inn. Staff was friendly and very helpful. The continental breakfast was best we'd every had. And the wine and cheese in the afternoon added to the ambiance of the Inn. Although our room was rather small, it was comfortable pleasantly decorated. Had read some negative reviews about rooms located on the side across from the parking garage, but this was not a problem during our stay (even though it was right before St. Patrick's Day, which is a HUGE celebration in Savannah).

The River Street Inn is a great Savannah experience with a distinctive sense of style that we want to share with you. The central Atrium, with 5 floors wrapped around it, is the backdrop for antique and reproduction furnishings, evoking the subtle sophistication of Savannah. The Inn has been preserved with the feeling of yesteryear but with all the modrn conveniences. Experience Charming Riverfront Hospitality. The romantic ambiance of Savannah and the Antebellum South is found in the Inn's theme and decor, from hardwood floors and four-poster beds, to plush carpeting and private balconies. All 86 guest rooms are well appointed, offering views of the Savannah River to the North and Savannah's Historic District to the South.Guests can enjoy walking onto the French-style balconies to watch the huge ocean freighters pass, or watch the night sky through floor-length windows. There are period furnishings and guests may choose from smoking or non-smoking rooms. ADA accessible.Perched above the Savannah River on the bluff overlooking Savannah's popular River Street, the Inn's past is intertwined with that of its historic surroundings - which shaped its design. From the building's humble beginnings in 1817, adjuacent to the Cotton Exchange, the structure was used for the storing, grading and exporting of the city's main export of the age - Cotton. The original two floors were built of ballast stones in 1817. In 1854 came the addition of the final three floors to accomodate the prosperous cotton industry. Alleys, walks and bridges gave traders access to all floors from the bluff to move cotton bales. Known as "Factor's Walk," after the professionals who graded the cotton, these alleys and the riverside street of ballast stone add to the Inn's character. These stones were brought in as ballast in the numerous ships that traveled from Europe and unloaded to make room for valuable cotton. The surrounding buildings have a renewed life as shops, restaurants, and traverns, each w

good location across the street from cathedral but on the trolley and carriage tours that operate untill 11 pm sometimes later. the bedroom had no closet, just a hook on the back of the bathroom door. there was no vanity or dresser in any area. there was also no bathroom mirror. the rooms were beautiful but not functional. there was no way to close curtains to block out light in the bedroom for sleeping. the sitting room was pretty but had no tables to set anything on. the view of the cathedral was really good though. the staff if you found them at all was not helpful. it is a shame, because this place has a lot of potential. almost forgot, there is only metered parking on the street if you can find it.

Great location for exploring historic Savannah. Clean rooms and nice to have the small kitchen. Breakfast was ok. The coffee was great. A little noisy from the bar across the street corner from the hotel. Our room key did not work for the first day and half. We kept having to go back to the front desk to have it reset. Also the lobby elevator was not working. However the staff was great. Very helpful and friendly.

Very friendly staff and very reasonable for it's prime historic district location on the river. The rooms are actually 1 bedrooms suites with a kitchenette, bedroom, bathroom, and a living room with a river view. I would highly recommend this inn for anyone wanting a taste of history yet on a budget. They have a very good continental breakfast each morning and a nice wine and cheese reception in the evenings.

  • 5 Mar 2012
Everyone at the front desk was not just pleasant but eager to talk about things to do in Savannah. I can't imagine a more perfect location if you want to be where the action is. The view from the roof was gorgeous. The downside was a noisy ventilation system and slow valet service.

Walking distance to all of historic downtown. Rooms are up to date. The bathrooms show a little wear, but everything was clean. Pillows are pitiful, so make sure you ask for an extra. But overall, I would stay there again. The week night is a great rate for the location!

This was our first visit to Savannah and the staff was extremely helpful in making recommendations on how we should explore the city and made tour reservations on our behalf. Savannah was a great place to visit made even more enjoyable by staying in a beautiful inn located in the heart of the historic district. We also enjoyed meeting other couples over a glass of wine in the evening, sharing highlights of our discoveries.

Great Location

This hotel is in a great location on Ellis square. Very close to city market, River street, and Bay Street. Lots of restaurants and shops within one or two blocks walking distance. We had a wonderful two bedroom suite with city views. The only negative is the wall of windows have no blinds or drapes, so when the sun raises you do too.

Not a hotel...even though it looks that way on the internet

  • Capt. Thom
  • 21 May 2012
This is not a hotel...it is a time share. You park in a public parking lot below the structure. Then you take an elevator to the street level, then exit to an alley, make a left then find the entry door. Registration is on the 7th floor. You will be asked if you "want daily room cleaning"????? This is not a cheap experience and that question seemed totally strange. Well once you start asking questions you find out that it is not a hotel but instead a time share condominium. We asked for room care but did NOT get it the first day...nothing. The second day they worked on the room and took all of the used towels...but FAILED to put clean towels in the second bathroom. I felt like I did not receive the type of service or amenities that $600 a day should afford.

Stayed during the Tall Ship Sail and had the perfedt riverfront room to watch all the activities. The staff was great and food wonderful. I wish the beds had been queen instead of full. Took my brother ( who has CP) in a wheelchair and had plenty of room in a regular room. Loved the view from room 304!!

Never having visited Savannah I wasn't sure that I was staying in the right spot, but when we got there I realized we were in the perfect spot. There is a tour bus pickup location right outside the hotel next door and there is an elevator to River Street next to the Hyatt. we were right across the street from restaurants and shops as well. We also had a GREAT view of the river and bridge.

Heavenly Beds

  • Stephanie
  • 14 Jun 2011
We have stayed here several times and always enjoy our stay. We love the location and always have gotten a river view room. The room has always been clean and comfortable. The sitting area with view of the river is a cute plus that my husband and I have enjoyed. The Westin's Heavenly Beds are wonderful! A big reason why we continue to go to Westins. These are the only beds that we sleep as well on as we do when we are at home. The grounds were cute and it was fun sitting on the terrace for out in the gazebo. This was a completely enjoyable hotel! We would definitely stay again if in the Savannah area.

Nice hotel...not the best Westin

  • Rich
  • 30 May 2011
This was a quick trip for the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Savannah is really a beautiful city, the people are nice, and the food is outstanding. We explored the older parts of town, ate at some of the nicer places (get reservations for Elizabeth's on 37th for a wonderful fine dining experience). The hotel's heavenly beds delivered, as usual. May have just been the holiday weekend, but there were a LOT of children around who overtook the pool and made it an unpleasant place for those of us who like vacationing with adults. The rooms were nice. I didn't like waiting for the Ferry every time we went into Savannah proper but it was sort of fun. Make sure you take a tour while you are there. The history and architecture are worth checking out.

The Gastonian put us in the heart of Savanna and the staff oriented us to the nature of the city (our first visit). The Gastonian's location was perfect allowing us to explore all facets of the historic district and always be within "just a few blocks" of the gracious care of the Gastonian staff. As well, the other guests were great complementing one another with great stories, directions, and good cheer.

We had a very nice stay at The Gastonian. We felt very welcome and comfortable. The food was very good and plentiful. The location is a bit of a walk from River Street , if you plan to spend time there, but that also makes it a much quiter location. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again!
