Some good, some bad
I'll do the pro-con thing to make this easier to read. Pro: -Mostly nice staff, if not too helpful issues -Good Waikiki location, off less busy road but 1 block from the action. Good central beach location. -Didn't have car, but valet and entry/exit seemed easy. -Nice pool area, attractive grounds, easy beach/pool access. -Views, Our expensive "Ocean View" had view of beach, pool, Diamond head, but only from balcony and 1/2 of view was hotel next door. -Lots of pillows in room Cons: -Rooms a bit cramped -Furniture outdated, had only bed, dresser, small table for 2. -Blind wouldn't close completely, light at 6am -Bathroom average and VERY cramped. Toile t and shower only in closed area, sink in main room, can't get to closet if someone using sink. -Cheapest,thinnest toil-et paper I've every used. -When you book through "service" not clear that its up to hotel if you get King or 2 doubles. Wife wasn't happy w/2 doubles we got. Staff COMPLETELY unhelpful. -Staff in Shore Bird restaraunt disinterested and badly trained. Perhaps since they're always busy, they've developed "take it or leave it" attitude. Left after being seated in back, next to heavily smoking BBQ grill and nobody seemed to care. Told we could take that table or wait 45min, even though several empty tables near beach were open. BTW, ended up at Hard Rock cafe, OUTSTANDING service and food, highly recommed over hotel choices. -Called and asked if hotel had airport shuttle. Told yes, time reserved. Got to airport, and guy asked for "voucher" from hotel. Never told we needed one or were offered one, paid 22bucks for ride. -"Gratuity Fees", OK, I understand hotel food and services are going to be expensive, thats fine. But EVERYTHING had a price, then in fine print, a "Gratuity fee" or "service charge". Spa, roomservice, etc. All I ask is that the price listed be the real price. Now I have to calculate 20% on room service prices, 18% on Spa, then figure tax and tip.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
-Got to ABC just down the street on your first day and load up fridge with drinks, snacks, etc. -Hard Rock good food, GREAT service/atmosphere -Get early reservations for popular places, like Dukes, Shorebird, etc. Giovanni Pastrami just around corner is pretty good, 10%off if you're hotel guest,

Nice enough
The room was clean and spacious. Location was convenient. The beach was small, less desirable and not as groomed as the main beach. The reservation was not clear when booked and I was under the impression breakfast was included. It was not.

Good not great
If you're looking for affordability, this fits the bill. The staff was friendly & the rooms looked to be renovated. We were disappointed all we could get was a 2 double-bed room, but it was clean and comfortable. The pool was basic &, being between 2 tall buildings, its sunshine hours were limited. The location was good at one end of Waikiki beach. The water was shallow but the bottom was somewhat rocky. We had a breakfast package and ordering off a limited menu at the pool grill fit the bill. The happy hour Mai Tais are always a plus.

Outrigger Reef
Very nice hotel. Overall experience was very good. Hotel dining on-site was good as well. Food was good, but not great. Happy-hour specials were very good. Room was very clean. We booked a ocean view room, but the hotel staff changed our room to a larger room with a great view of the ocean and city. Overall staff was very friendly and helpful. I would absolutely stay at this hotel again! Highly recommend.

Really??????????????????????
Got their a little early and they said the rooms would be available in about an hour..it turned out to be a lot longer so they upgraded us to an Ocean View. I said I booked an Ocean View , they said my Ocean View was not Ocean View, I said in the pamplet there was just a room, partial andOcean View...they said your Ocean view is not Ocean View. My documents said Ocean View and I called ahead and verified it, no yours is not OCean View, so I guess they have this secret Ocean View . For me having to wait for the room they were going to upgrade me to Ocean View, which I already had. When we got to the new room it had a blower going in it...they said that they were cleaning the carpets and it was to dry it. Later that night we turned on the fan and it smelled like smoke all night, found out later they had a fire in the kitchen and it got into air vents. They upgraded us again to a really nice room, but was really insane The new room was more than anyone could ask for, so all in all it turned into a very nice vacation. The food there was great, close to the beach, like I said after the room incident....awesome. If you rent a car they do charge 30.00 a day for parking....but hey its a vacation!

Storm Chaser Vacation
We visited Honolulu when the city experienced the worst storm in a decade!! Torrential rain, hail, thunder and lightening all over, but thank goodness the hotel room was so comfortable and nice, we didn't mind staying in.

Sightseeing tip:
Short drive from hotel
In the 20+ trips to Honolulu, I've never visited the Honolulu Zoo, which is on Kapahulu and Kalakaua Avenues, at the end of Waikiki Beach. It was much larger than I expected, and exceeded my expectations, especially the primates!

I took my girlfriend for spring break and we had a great time. The weather was not good but the experience was still worth the money. The staff was great and friendly and willing to help with anything, definitely recomend this hotel for vacationers.

Great location
Right on the beach, just down from Waikiki. Close to shops. Restaurants are good (3 of them) with happy hour everyday. Rooms are good with lots of price choices. A little pricey since it is beachfront. The only beef I have is that parking is $30 per day, valet only.

Rent a car only for days out of Honolulu to avoid parking fees. Walk or use bus/trolley for in town.

Great Hotel on the quiet side of Waikiki
The Outrigger on the Reef is a luxurious hotel close to the action at Waikiki. It has access to one of the better beach sections and a good salt water swimming pool. There are many dining options near the hotel. Both the room and deck were large, but relatively devoid of furniture. More chairs would have been helpful.
