It's just what I needed!

I spent a very comfortable evening at this hotel before an early flight out of Lihue. I really wanted an inexpensive place to stay near the airport, and this fit the bill perfectly. Plus, the room was comfortable, the front desk attendant was very pleasant and kindly suggested a nearby restaurant for dinner, and even though there seemed to be a lot of people staying that night (including a large-ish group of students), I was never bothered by any noise. The bathroom was a little dated and small, but I prefer vintage, so it really was perfect for me.

Unusual, but island flavor

Very clean, quaint and had everything we needed -- with a down home island flavor. Everyone was so friendly and happy. Near airport, but hard to find without GPS.

Simple, Pleasant Accomodations

Kauai Palms is a beautiful, small hotel with courteous staff. Our room had louvered windows, perfect for letting the refreshing Hawaiian air into our room all day and night; an A/C is not needed (and not included). The room and bathroom are small, but were perfect for our needs. We traveled with an infant, and we all slept soundly on the king-size bed. There is a fridge and coffee-maker, and a cute little closet. I enjoyed the simplicity of the room. It would have been nice to have a phone in the room - but the staff was more than happy to deliver messages for us, and most people have cell phones so it shouldn't be an issue. The location in Lihue was perfect; we attended church down the street, and also got some used beach gear from the Salvation Army Thrift Store which we re-donated when done with our vacation. We weren't too far from the airport, but just far enough to not have too much noise. Roosters and chickens outside were a bit noisy, but you get used to it after a day or so. Sometimes muffins and donuts were at the office in the morning for a quick grab-and-go breakfast. We were there for a week. All in all, Kauai Palms was a great bargain and a comfortable place to stay; we highly recommend it.

Snorkel Bob's has a great CHEAP deal for a snorkel mask and flippers for a whole week! We saw amazing coral reefs, colorful fish, and sea turtles at multiple beaches, and you only have to walk about 20 feet into the shallow, clear water to catch the action!

Not so great

It's a bad sign when the cab driver asks you "Are you sure you'll be happy there?"Surrounding area made me feel like I was in a [*] rather than on vacation.Poor selection of restaurants within walking distance.Owner's cat led us up to our room and then wouldn't leave. Please note that your bed options are two twin beds (not double) or one king (mine was very lumpy). On the positive, the room was clean and there was free coffee in the lobby in the morning. The owners/managers were very nice.I recommend spending about $5 more to stay at the Aston Aloha right on Lydgate Park. It is no farther from the airport, has 2 pools, and you're on Lydgate Park.

very basic hotel

we rented this to have a place to go between checking out of a house at 10 am spending the day at the beach and leaving on a 10 pm flight from Lihue. We expected small and basic but this was a tiny room with a teeny bathroom and a poorly functioning air conditioner. The door had a turn latch on it that could be jimmied by anyone trying to get in. The front desk person was friendly. It was fine to have a place to shower and change before a long flight home but we're glad we weren't staying overnight.
