The suburbs in Hawaii

I would not stay here again. We were expecting more of a resort experience like when we stayed at a Marriot resort in Maui. That's not what this is. This is not a hotel! It's a condo complex that either rents out unsold units or rents out units that owners don't use all the time. It's ugly and bland (it could be in any suburb of any city in the US) and the townhouses are nothing special. Ours was probably not owned by a person as it seemed to have no personal touches at all. We were annoyed to find that housekeeping services were only available after you had stayed for a week. We were also charged a resort fee for something, but we're not entirely sure what. I think that resort fees are just evil. It's pure profit for the resort. The pool is extremely tiny and the bar/snack bar closes at 8 PM. If you're looking for a nice pool, look elsewhere. All of this said, I think we simply were the wrong people for this place. If you had a large family and played golf it would be ideal (there were four of us). For us, wanting more of a non-golf outdoor experience, the Hilton next door might've been better. Finally, why is all the architecture in Hawaii so ugly?

Great Family Accommodations

Wonderful, clean place. Very well furnished. Minimal ammenities. Pool was nice - but not heated. Stuck my foot in, but went no further. No dining option other than pool bar, but other hotels with restaurants are nearby. If you're looking for a place to get away from it all - this is it. Very private residence, but close to restaurants and shopping when you want it.

Great Honeymoon

We Loved our stay and felt right at home in the condo/resort style these guys have. The "continental breakfast" was lacking. But we kind of justified it with the recession and all. Besides, a full kitchen makes it possible to have "home cooking" when ever you want. The Restaurant/Bar has decent food, and good quick drinks. A little pricy, but what in Hawaii isn't? All in all, a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it.

Waikoloa Village Market in Waiklola is a fully stocked grocery store for much less than the store in what we referred to as "resort town".

Super experience, highly reccomend

We stayed in a 3 bdrm unit (7G) and it was spacious, immaculate and very well maintained. The kitchen was fully equipped, the bedding was comfortable, the AC was silent, there were some beach towels and fins for our use in the laundry room. The grounds were beautiful and maintained by a very friendly ground crew that smile and wave whenever they see you. The pool is really fun and on a spectacular location with a fabulous view. They have towels available for the guests and a bar that serves food. We didn't eat anything there at the resturant but we did take advantage of the grill and tables located poolside to grill up dinner a couple of times. The orientation of the pool area is perfect for watching the sunset.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

There is a public beach with the entry between the King's Shopping Center and the Queen's Shopping Center. You might be able to walk to it from Halii Kai, but it would be a long walk. The beach has mixture of shade and sun, it is free, it has restroom and shower and you can walk to the adjoining Marriott to rent kayak and/or Snorkel gear. There is also sell beach sandwiches. The snorkeling offshore is just awesome: coral reef, plenty of fish, and seaturtles. Remember to wear a shirt when snorkeling (I didn't and quite a back sunburn).

Beautiful Condo!

The condo was very nice. The kitchen was beautiful. The restaurant has great food. We had an ocean view unit but you only see the ocean if you go outside or stand next to the sliding glass door. The carpet next to the kitchen was stained and the shampoo and conditioner in the master bathroom were used. They were only half full. And the dishwasher was in operation when we checked in so I had to empty it before I could use it. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay.

Good place to stay for a family

Our family of 4 stayed in Kalii Kai for 7 days 6 nights. We arrived early & was able to checked in. Overall: Very happy with the place/location. Will come back to Kalli Kai. Condo: Spacious clean 2br/2ba (approx 1200 sqft) Beds: 1 king (comfortable), 2 twins (bit firm) Appliance: modern/functional dryer/washer, dish washer, micro wave & a gas BBQ. Decor: nice. Grounds: well kept, Tennis/BBall court Gym. room: treadmills/cycling/univ. weight stn with a beautiful view of the ocean. pool: Not kid friendly, dark rock barrier inside dark pool water! Services: No cleaning service unless staying for 7 nights or more. Brought out trash to nearby dumpster & use washer/dryer to clean towels. Access: 25 min from airport. 10 miles from Hapuna beach (nice sand) 1 mile to beach near Hilton (good snorkel) 1 mile to Queen's market/king's shops Misc.: Owner provided beach chairs/cooler/sand toys/body surf boards.

Nice accomodations

We had a great time and found the accommodations to be well appointed. We especially found the kitchens to be well equipped and as such we cooked more meals at the condo than we had originally expected to. One word of caution; not all of the condo's have wireless internet access. So if you need wireless, let the hotel staff know beforehand.

There are many great beaches within 15 miles north and south of this location. I highly recommend that you visit as many as you can as they are all unbelievably unique and gorgeous. Don't let others tell you that the big island does not have any good beaches as we found many!
