Great location to visit with my son...
Just be sure to ask what events are going on while you are there. The wedding reception on the top floor had VERY LOUD music. I was on the 8th floor. Not sure if the reception was on the 10th or 11th floor. The front desk said the music would be off at midnight. It was 11PM when I called to say I can understand the lyrics to the song they were singing, 2 or 3 floors down from the event.

Great Location
This hotel is so wonderful- due to its location, it is an easy walk to the Mercy Medical but a shuttle is available. Also, the shuttle to the airport was quick and easy, with the staff extremely helpful and pleasant. My view from the 8th was great!. The food both in the restaurant and room service was fast, delicious, especially the scones at breakfast. Totally enjoyed my stay

Good value in Des Moines
Hotel staff were nice; especially the hotel shuttle driver who picked me up from the airport. Very accomodating and helpful to a first timer to Iowa. Very helpful information guides, and guest services directory. Business center was nothing to brag about but functionally it was just fine. Hotel isn't too far a walk or drive from the 'main' downtown area but be warned that there isn't much commerce around the hotel itself. Hotel room itself was nice but bed wasn't too comfortable; but if you prefer a harder bed then it might be your thing. Could have just been my room but what I know is that my back wasn't feeling too good in the morning. (I traveled to another city in Iowa the next day and I didnt have this problem with the hotel I stayed in...there IS a difference!) Overall, depending on what you are coming to Des Moines for, its not exactly the Shangri La but this is a great value for/ near the downtown area.

The good, the bad, and the ugly
Too close to freeway entrance/exit-traffic noise. Too close to hospital-heard sirens most of the night; Had to sleep with TV on.

Moody Blues Night
We were in town to attend a concert at the Civic Center. Everything about the experience was ABOVE expectation: our room was HUGE, clean and accomodating. We were offered FREE shuttle service downtown to and from the concert (before 11pm). The front desk staff at CHECK IN was VERY friendly ([...]) and offered suggestions as to where to dine for dinner (Cord Avenue Brewing Co.). Our meal was AMAZING!!!! (GREAT JOB, [...]!) The ONLY unhappiness we found was the 2 encounters with the (female) bartender (manager??), and the CHECK OUT gal at the front desk. Bartender: There was nobody in the bar area for several min when we arrived shortly after 4pm. Upon her return, we tried to joke with her, however, she didn't find us amusing. We left and came back after the concert. The shuttle picked us up 10:45pm and said that the bar was PACKED, so we were up for more fun. When we walked in, she was unfriendly AGAIN as if she didn't want to be there. We took our drinks back to our room. The other item - front desk girl at check out: on check out day, my fiance called down to find out how late breakfast was served and the female that answered said, "10:30" and hung up on him. She was better when I checked out of the hotel, but I felt that was HORRIBLE customer service on the phone...esp since we were already guests!

Very happy with our stay
We were in Des Moines for a dance competition at the Events Center and loved the hotel's location right near the event. Spotless rooms, super comfy beds, and very gracious staff at the front desk and at the restaurant. The breakfast buffet was well done and suited our needs perfectly, as we needed to eat and go to get to our competition.

Weekend vacation
Not a bad hotel, but not really walking distance to downtown, a cab ride will cost you about $6 each way to get to Court Ave. There are closer hotels for about the same money.

Nice enough, but convenient only to hosp
Ask for a room not on the side facing the highway. It's noisy there (and I live in Midtown Manhattan, so you know that when the noise bothers me, it's BAD). It's also not convenient to much except Mercy hosptial. But the fitness center is pretty good...much better than you expect of a Holiday Inn (or comparable hotel).

Wonderful art decor
I would so appreciate finding out where I can purchase art similar to what is in your dining room; the 3-D floral pieces.
