Area description
McCall is a small resort community nestled on the shore of beautiful Payette Lake and is known as one of Idaho's most popular resorts. McCall was founded as a timber town and has grown into a popular year round destination. Located 100 miles north of Boise, McCall is just a two-hour drive along the Payette River Scenic Byway from its gateway city. McCall is home to Brundage Mountain, Ponderosa State Park, the U.S. Forest Service Smokejumper Base, and the annual Winter Carnival. McCall offers something for everyone throughout the year.

McCall's winter season generally starts in late November and runs until mid April. Brundage Mountain Resort is a favorite among skiers and snowboarders for it's friendly, family atmosphere and incredible powder skiing. The average annual snowfall at the resort is 300 inches. At McCall's altitude of 5,000 feet, accumulation is typically less than 48 inches due to repeated settling and thawing. Winter activities include alpine and nordic skiing,

Brundage

We were only in town for the night. Originally, the place seemed very nice. Simple, but nice. Then we realized that the walls were paper thin. Our neighbors decided to shower at 10pm and we thought they were in our room. Especially when the woman started singing. We could hear the ice machine all night long and the bed squeaked so loud when you moved, it just became laughable. The trip itself was great, the room, a little more sound proofing would be nice.

A just fine budget stop

We needed a way stop. The price was right. It was easy to find. The decor was charmingly funky. Everything worked, including free wi-fi.

Northwest Passage Restaurant. We had a good meal and good wine for reasonable rates, but on Sunday night they have the best piano player we've ever just "happened upon." Knew just about everything anyone requested and added pleasant jazzy flourishes w/o ever missing a note or overdoing. For us he was the highlight of our McCall stop.
