I made a last minute reservation for a lowest price avaliable, but did not expected sucha a great hotel for this price. there is no breakfast included but right across the street is the perfect pancake house so yummie! a must try.will go there again for sure.

We enjoyed the location, took the Clark St bus that stopped outside the hotel, disappointed in how the hotel was maintained. Never saw anyone running a vacum or cleaning a floor and you could tell, the elevator floor had the same litter all 4 days we were there. Sheets were great and very clean, bathroom smmmmmall and floor needed mopped, old dirt in tile, needed alittle more tender loving care, considering the upscale location and price of the rooms.

Was in Chicago for a convention and had a limited budget. Found the Whitehall fit into that budget and was in a perfect location. I was concerned about some of the reviews on other travel site but, I thought I would give it a chance. Yes, it's old and small. Yes, it could use a makeover. But, for the price it's awesome. I did see the strings hanging of the chair in my room that someone photographed. Maybe I got the same room. But, come on, who cares. I wasn't hosting a social event. The place is clean. Things are worn but, not warn out. The bed is comfortable and they give you lots of fluffy pillows. I felt very comfortable leaving my personal items out on the bed or bathroom counter. The staff was extremely friendly and helped me quickly. The air conditioning was noisy and I had to use ear plugs. However I don't think it was any different then any other hotel in the area. The Four Seasons is directly across the street and at $500 per night they provide ear plugs for you. My friend stayed there for the same convention. The shower at the Whitehall gave me a warm shower everyday and the safe was large enough to hold my laptop. Bottom line if you want to pampered in a luxury hotel, go to a luxury hotel. If you want a great value go to the Whitehall.

Four Fabulous 40 Year Olds

It was a girls weekend for 4 college friends who are turning 40. We picked Chicago as a perfect location as some of us were flying in from Boston and Phoenix. The hotel was easy to find and has a beautiful lobby area. The conceirge staff was very friendly and helpful. They directed us to a delicious place for lunch. And as a bonus, our room was ready even though it was only Noon.
We thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary cocktail receptions and the complimentary breakfasts (located on each floor!) Overall it was a very nice place to stay! I would definitely go back.

The hotel was very busy and not too personal. Things went ok but the rooms are dated and only average in comfort. There was no info on wifi and the internet connection was inactive (again no info). Overall expensive but a good location. The ground floor was immaculate but the rooms a let down.

This hotel, while once very elegant and still beautiful, is best because of it's location across from Grant Park and L. Michigan. WOrST thing was the bed design - it had flanges that stuck out from the footboard and I whacked my legs on them too many times - I finally just always pulled the comforter down to soften the blow...but WHAT a location!

I stayed in a room with two queen beds. Roomy, clean. Noisy on the Fri. night/Sat. AM.
Hotel informed us of 2 museum closures on 2 dates during the NATO visit. The reality was that all museums ( including Art Institute) were closed on 3 dates. Street closures were also not included in the notice. All in all, it was a pleasant experience.

Comfortable, friendly, and great location

The hotel and our room was very nice. The staff are very nice and accommodating. We found the location to be perfect when touring the city and shopping. Valet was great as was the room service. The concierge secured our party a dinner reservation to a great restaurant 45 minutes prior to dinner time with no problem. The hotel combined with their great staff, accommodations, and locations makes for a strong value- 5 stars.

We visited Chicago over the weekend to attend a Cubs game. Location was perfect for day explorations and night activities.(There were shops galore, restaurants in abundance and Lake Michigan just blocks away!)The hotel was perfect if looking for a small, quaint, traditional, elegant accomodation. The room was clean, spacious and maintained the charm of the hotel. The staff was helpful in guiding us to local eating spots, and directing us to the train stop just a few blocks away. Can't wait to revisit!

We stayed at the Affinia for 4 days. Romms were clean with nice linens. Outstanding location--close to shopping and Lake Michigan. Not many ammenities. There is rooftop lounge open evenings. Slow elevators at peak times.

Stayed at the James Hotel for 3 nights as an escape from New York. The location is excellent and most major sites are easily walkable.
The Hotel itself is good value, my room was a reasonable size, well laid out and all the staff were friendly and helpful without being intrusive.
Great Bar downstairs that made the best (certainly strongest) Mojito's I have had.

MY HUSBAND BROUGHT ME TO CHICAGO FOR MY BIRTHDAY. I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THE HOTEL WAS FABULOUS. THE ROOM WAS BEAUTIFUL, THE LOBBY WAS VERY NICE AND THE DOORMEN WERE VERY HELPFUL...ESPECIALLY BOB. HE RECOMMENDED A GREAT MARKET FOR US AND PLACES TO SEE. THE HOTEL WAS VERY CLOSE TO THE MAGNIFICENT MILE AND THE PIER, AND THE PARK. PERFECT LOCATION. MY HUSBAND AND I ESPECIALLY LIKED THE FLOORS IN THE ROOM. THEY SPARKLE!!! MY HUSBAND REALLY ENJOYED THE STEAM ROOM. I WOULD DEFINETLY STAY AT THIS HOTEL AGAIN.

The hotel was beautiful and the room layout was perfect for studying and sleeping. Location was ideal. I was able to run to Lake Michigan and Navy Pier and walk the Magnificent Mile. The hotel is also near several good restaurants. Staff was very friendly and informative.

When I saw my room, I feel that is too small and poorly ventilated. But to live down, I found that the transportation is very convenient and any where you can find the restaurant. The hotel room is very clean and no bad smell .
living in the downtown, it is safe. If I come to Chicago, I will choose this hotel again.

We stayed at the hotel over St. Patricks Day weekend. Attended the parade and visited the near by museums. The location was perfect for us. The room was clean and comfortable. However, the age of the hotel was evident in that the curtains had some holes and the bathroom door knob didn't work at all.

I took my twin 9 year olds to Chicago for Spring Break. This hotel offered an excellent price and a fantastic location. I could not have asked for a better combination. The rooms were fine; as my son said, "Its pretty nice for an old place, mom". The hotel staff were helpful and exceptionally polite. Yet the place is older so without some of the amenties that some travelers will prefer. For days of visiting museums it was perfect location...an easy walk across Grant Park. Highly recommend for the budget traveler.

I was so impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff! Much better than at it's partner Kimpton hotel on the other side of the river. The bed was so comfortable I almost didn't want to get out of it. The room was very quiet; and we were near an elevator. The bar had wonderful fun drinks! My mother had breakfast at the restaurant and said it was just "okay" but that's easily overlooked. They lent me an iPhone charger since I'd forgotten my own. When they say "we'll be right up", they MEAN IT! Top notch would definitely stay again.

Our family of three (1-yr old infant) enjoyed our single night stay at Hotel Monaco. The staff was pleasant and attentive. The room was decent sized and felt warm and comfortable. The bed, oh my gosh, was amazing. First, it was an order of magnitude softer and cozier than our bed at home. It was also almost twice the size! That made it easy to romp around on the bed and sleep soundly despite having baby with us.
There were a number of small touches that just made us happy to be there. One was the leopard and tiger-print robes (his and hers), hung in the closet with the invitation, "Try these on and let your instincts take over." The playful suggestion put a smile on our face and made the stay more enjoyable overall...

The Dana is Awesome

I love this hotel. It's walking distance to everything, close to trains and the staff is wonderful. Anything I needed was at my disposal. Bed is way comfy and my room had a balcony which was an added plus. I loved being able to get fresh air without having to leave my room. I would stay at the Dana again and again. Only drawback was no pool/spa.

"A night in the city"

Great location, however a few "misses" in the room: no hand soap for use in the bathroom sink....ick!! There was shower gel/shampoo/conditioner available in the shower in large containers---that was okay, but, really...every sink needs some sort of hand soap!!
Also, we noticed on a hanger that we should have had robes to use, none there, so we did ask at the desk---just so we weren't accused later of theft!
Hand soap and robes were later delivered to our room, but, again, hand soap should not need to be requested at a high end hotel.

The location, amenities, room cleanliness and staff were all excellent. Valet parking at the hotel was a bit steep but I'm sure that is the rate for all hotels in this location of the city. But we received a special offer through Orbiz that provided additional perks by booking through them and a discounted parking was one.

The room was small for the price but the quality was top notch every detail of this renovated office was done to perfection. The breakfast in the lobby restaurant the atwood cafe was amazing and very reasonable price for the quality. With walgreens next door and the heart of chicago out the door everything needed is only a walk away. Loved the bed and pillows.

The hotel is much more than I was expecting and the location is unbelievable and public transportation gets you anywhere. Just one subway ride from the O'Hare airport!!!

My husband and I took our 1 year old daughter here for a weekend staycation. It was a very nice hotel (we felt under-dressed most of the time) but there were a few things that would keep me from going back. The fees were insane. A daily fee of $15 per person for access to pool area...even if you don't use it, really annoyed me. Also, it's $50 to park (which we didn't do). The location isn't bad if you don't mind walking, but it's not really close to anything.

We love this hotel - great rooms, location, pool is wonderful for the kids. The only issues we had were with housekeeping (didn't show up one of the days and said we had a do not disturb sign up - we did not). We also had a few issues with room service - we could never reach them and when they finally called us back, they messed up our order twice. We would go back though. Great place overall.

We were in Chicago looking for a place to live and we brought our 4 year old golden retriever with us. We checked in and she was greeted with a bag of treats and lots of attention, we were given complimentary wine, our room was nice and the location was good -close to most of the train lines and a walkable part of town even at night. The park is about an 8-10min walk away but that wasn't a big deal. It was affordable for the area.

The Allegro is super easy to find, it a really decent part of downtown. There are plenty of convenience stores around. The hotel has a nice wine/drink hour at night and free coffee/tea/cocoa in the mornings. My dogs loved their stay and they got cute lil beds to lay in (although, they liked the King bed for us much better). This hotel charges you for anything not nailed down, so you'd better make sure you take everything you'll need with you!
