Great Location, Nice Rooms

Overall, the hotel was great. The staff was accommodating and friendly. The location was prime for travelers who wish to walk (very close to the Art Institute, Shedd Aquarium, and the shopping district). My only complaints were that you have to pay to use the business/fitness centers and there was no fridge in the room. We would have liked to keep the leftovers from our restaurant meals but were unable to do so.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Don't eat breakfast at Houlihans which is right up the street! We paid $40 for a buffet consisting of cafeteria style food. The food was gross and outrageously overpriced. If you want to save money on getting to the hotel, I highly suggest the train. It only cost $2.50 per traveler and was only a 5 minute walk to the hotel (take the orange line the entire way if you're coming into Midway).

EXCELLENT PLACE TO STAY

THE ONLY PROBLEM I FOUND WAS THAT THE SHOWER STALL WAS SLICK. SOME NON-STICK TREATMENT ON THE FLOOR OF THE SHOWER WOULD HAVE MADE IT MUCH SAFER. OTHER THAN THAT, A WONDERFUL PLACE TO STAY AND THE STAFF WAS VERY ACCOMODATING. RESTAURANT WAS VERY GOOD. BREAKFAST WAS GREAT AND GOOD VALUE FOR THE PRODUCT RECEIVED. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

Excellent choice: upscale & good value

Swissotel in Chicago was perfect for our five-day stay. The location, right on the Chicago River, was a very short walk to Michigan Avenue and only about a block from the RiverWalk dock where the Chicago Architectural Foundation tour boat is located. The river tour is exceptional -- the view of Chicago's architectural gems was unbeatable. The concierge was helpful; The Palm was excellent; the room was spacious, well designed and clean. I have stayed in other Swissotels -- NYC and London -- and this one measures up well. I would definitely go back.

Bin 36 was terrific -- a wine bar with reasonably priced, very good wines and excellent food. For my friend and I, it was also a learning experience.

Good Hotel

The hotel was very nice. It had a great view and was close to everything. The staff were all very friendly and made the experience very nice. The only thing that bothered me was that everything cost extra. To use the fitness center it was a daily charge and the internet was a daily charge. I believe these should be complimentary. The beds were extremely comfortable and overall it was a very good experience. The location was fantastic. Everything that we wanted to do was within a couple miles. We walked almost everywhere but did take a cab a couple of times. The cab fares were really cheap though so I didn't mind having to do that.

If you are able to take a trip on the Odyssey Cruise ship. We had an amazing view of the skyline at night. The staff about the ship were fantastic. And if you go on special nights the dinner cruise ends with a fireworks shot off the lake. Absolutely a perfect way to celebrate a special occasion.

Beautiful hotel with pricey hidden costs

This is a beautiful hotel in Chicago near Navy Pier. We had a party of five and a baby with us, so we upgraded from two regular rooms to a corner suite with an adjoining room for a moderate increase in costs/night. The rooms were immaculate and the suite was HUGE, with beautiful views of the city, the lake, and navy pier. The staff was very friendly and accommadating. We got an amazing deal through Orbitz. However, that's where the amazing deal stopped. Everything costs extra at exorbitant prices. It costs $14/night to have access to the pool. A meal in the restaurant will cost about $40-$50/person. Room service? Take out a second mortgage. Parking was $52 a day. Internet was $10 a day and was not wireless. There was not much within walking distance, the navy pier was a good 20 minute walk. So overall, a beautiful room but very disappointing.

Short walk from the train

The staff was helpful with decisions on where to go and eat. It was nice having a cup of ice water or coffee upon entering. They couldn't find our reservations at first but were attentive and worked it out. The beds and bedding were great! Rooms were clean with soft fluffy towels. We had a view of the river out our window and it was a short walk to the lake and other attractions.

Chicago Weekend

I called the day before check in to confirm my reservation. The hotel told me they had my reservation but that it was not for 2 beds. We had 4 people so this was not going to work. They told me they were all sold out of double rooms and they couldn't help me. I then called Orbitz, as we booked with them, and the worker from Orbitz called the hotel and was able to get us the double room that we requested. Once we got there, they were very friendly and accomodating. The hotel itself was beautiful. We had a great view of Navy Pier and the lake. The beds are GREAT!!! The only thing we didn't like was that there appeared to only be a couple of the elevators working and there was always a long line and wait to get on the elevator. Luckily we were staying on the 3rd floor so it was not an issue for us to take the stairs. I would stay there again.

Awesome Experience

The hotel was perfectly located for ease of access to so many awesome sites; shopping, eating, tours, and attractions. This was my first time staying in the Chicago Loop and loved it. I highly recommend this hotel to travelers. However, I only wish the hotel would have offer limited but free access to the pool and fitness area as well as free hi-fi. Nevertheless, everything was just were awesome.
