Great stay in Peoria!
I chose this hotel for a combination of reasons - the overall positive reviews from a few different sources and the price for a quality hotel. I was not the least bit disappointed. My room was clean and included nice bathroom amenities. I was particularly impressed with the quality of bedding (mattress included) and am especially grateful of that, now that I am staying at a different, sub-par hotel in a different city. My only disappointment was that I was told over the phone, twice, that I would receive two complimentary drinks (cocktail or otherwise) at the hotel restaurant and bar for my stay. However, when I checked in and later asked about this, the hotel restaurant is closed on Sundays, the only day of my stay, so this did not apply. They should have simply told me this, instead of twice promising me drinks. But this does not at all chance my impression of the Mark Twain Hotel, it was a simply oversight.

Short walk from hotel
I made the mistake of dining at Bennigan's restaurant, because the hotel restaurant was closed (on Sunday) and Bennigan's was within short walking distance of the hotel. My service was pathetically slow and unfriendly, especially considering I went just after they opened and there were only a few people dining at the time. If this had been my only negative dining experience of the night, I would not be writing this note. My dinner was inedible. I got a grilled chicken burger with sweet potato fries. The fries were burned black and to a crisp, the thick slice of tomato on my burger was frozen solid and my chicken was so tough I could barely bite into it at all. I ended up having to eat crackers out of the hotel vending machine that night. So my advice to you is to stay clear of the Bennigan's in Peoria, IL.

Looks great, where's that pillow top?
The view of the river and bridge was absolutely fabulous. The restaurant/bar (for receiving comp. drinks) and breakfast buffet were both great - wonderful atmosphere and good choices. Waffles were truly made to order on Saturday, but pre-made on Sunday when there were a lot more people. The one thing that was really a problem was the firmness of the bed. The pillows were nice and soft, but the bed was practically hard. My friend staying in another room found the same to be true and slept terribly.

Quaint
We stayed in a "deluxe" King size room. The website refers to feather beds and I am allergic to feathers so I asked if it was possible to have no feathers in my bedding when making reservations. The receptionist informed me they would be removing the feather bed topper. I assumed they would have replaced it with a foam one, but to our surprise they didn't and the bed was as stiff as plywood. The shower floor had lots of mold in the grout, and then the toilet wouldn't flush! The staff was very young and inexperienced especially the chef's cooking the AM breakfast. Definitely not worth $150 a night.

Great Hotel - just a bit cold
Great quaint little hotel in the heart of downtown Peoria. We will definitely stay here again. Rooms were spotless, and tastefully decorated. Our room was quite small - but all we really needed was a bed - so a small room was fine. The morning breakfast was WONDERFUL! Our ONLY complaint was that the room and hallway were COLD! It was about 60° outside - and probably the same temp. inside. Of course there are thermostats in the rooms so you can control the heat.

The small things matter too...
It's a nice boutique classic hotel in a good location, but the small things that went wrong really ruined it for me. First, the smoke alarm started beeping intermittently at 2:30 in the morning because of a low backup battery. The connection on the phone to the front desk didn't work so I had to get dressed and go downstairs to get someone to replace it! THEN, after essentially not getting back to sleep, I showered and the shower would not shut off! It spewed water all over, so I just shut the shower door. The night guy was still at the desk- no apology, he just called someone to come, who sort of got it to quit. (Maintenance wasn't in yet.) I was glad to get out of town.

Nicely updated
We have stayed at this hotel several times on trips to Bradley. They have recently updated the hotel and added a new restaurant. The additions make an already good hotel even better.
