Nice family hotel

Not so much
The smell of the entire place was unacceptable. It was as if they were trying to hide something. We had to move from the first room due to unruly guest next door (staff was excellent) the upgraded room was very noisy. Pigeons were calling the balcony home and excrement was disgusting. I would NEVER book a room at this hotel again.

Good Location-Old building.
I like La Quinta, but, it is tough to know whether you are going to end up in a nice new building, or, a really old version like this one in Wichita. I have found a huge variation between particular locations that is frustrating.

Very friendly and capable staff. Room was OK (except for curtain directly over the HVAC unit which I finally controlled with a phone book). This is a very old property (converted from another chain) and it shows in the lobby, elevators and etc. Overall, not as good as I expected from the description [...], nor what I normally expect from La Quinta. Breakfast was better than normal and room in which it was served was nice.

Room smelled like cat pee. There were no glasses to drink water from and it just felt dirty.

needs serious work
The staff tried to be friendly, and even changed rooms for me. But the hotel is woefully behind the times. They are trying to make small repairs to improve it, but the bottom line is the hotel needs a million dollar makeover. The road construction nearby is not the hotels fault, but the dead bugs in my room are. The door that doesn't close properly is. The outdated decor is. The random and uncoordinated maintenance is. The circa 1980 decor and style are hurting too. The hotel has a good layout - the potential is there, but a few dabs of paint are simply not enough.
