Not good!
after check in I seen the room and started calling hotels in the area to find another room. on the [...]site it showed all booked which is only why booked this one. it showed 3 stars but was horrible. did not want to sit on the bed or walk into the bathroom. so after about 30 hotels found one that had a cancellation so lucked up and got that one. The pictures don't show how bad the rooms were, wasted 90.00

Awful!
This place was the cheapest I could find that was somewhat near the convention center. I found out whyt it was cheap. The taxi driver who brought me there from the airport said you couldn't pay him to stay in the neighborhood. The bathroom fixtures were all broken and/or rusted. The rubber coated pillows and mattress were disgusting. There seemed to be a blood smear on the wall. Nothing whatsoever to recommend about this place.

SUB-STANDARD HOTEL
First of all, the Empress should not be called a hotel, it is a motel. The hotel is in a bad area of New Orleans, the rooms are incredibly small, the showers had no power, there was no closet for hanging clothes, the bed was small and uncomfortable, and the walls were too thin. The whole time I was there I did not feel safe nor comfortable.

Very bad
The hotel room was very small, and the bathroom shower was not working. Will not recommend this motel to anyone.

terrible stay at Empress Hotel
The hotel did not meet even our lowest standards for a place we would stay. Besides being in a bad looking part of town it was smelly, decrepit and very old and the furnishings were in very bad condition.

served it's purpose...
A suitable location to explore the french quarter from if you walk the bigger, better lit streets from there. You get what you pay for and we booked last minute and ended up here because it was the only reasonably priced place left. Small room, hard bed, very thin pillows. We had a two night stay and when we were out, they cleaned our room and actually repacked anything left out of our bags in the process. A little creepy... But, the staff was very nice and it also has free parking, which is hard to come by in NOLA. If your looking to be pampered, this hotel is not for you. If you want a bed to fall on at the end of the night, this one works alright.

Real estate guy coming to a conference
Empress Hotel, 1317 Urselines Ave.
I ended up here by default because nearly everything else in New Orleans was booked. The building is decrepit. It is a low budget hotel that is obsolete by today's standards, and in desperate need of remodeling and upgrading of every nature, including beds, linens, towels, the bathroom was clean but 50 years old with linoleum to match. There was air conditioning but I found no heat, wifi if you went to the front outside deck, poor staff coverage, low rent neighborhood, guests to match. The rooms have no sound insulation so you hear everything. The TV didn't work, there was one chair and the bed to sit on, and no place to hang clothes. I was glad my wife didn't join me, as one of our memories together.

Dining tip:
Long walk from hotel
I enjoyed having an oyster meal at the Acme Oyster Grill steps off Bourbon Street. There were dueling piano's on Friday night half a block away, that was fabulous. As to the Hotel, it gave me pause for sure, but also struck a chord with me that there is a place for this type of hotel to serve the population who couldn't afford better accommodations. Remember not to take your key with you when you go out, or they will keep your $10 room deposit when you check out, another way they earn revenue since they really don't explain that but it's in their paperwork.
