Jazzfest for Life
The Worst Hotel Stay EVER!
This hotel is in a good location and that is where it ends. I had really low expectations of this hotel as this is my 7th year staying in NOLA for Jazzfest and this is a reasonably priced hotel, which means it will be a dump. This hotel didn't even meet my lowest standard of the bare necessities. They had a sprinkler malfunction the day before we got there and 1/4 of the hotel had water damage. Instead of telling us about what was going on upon arrival, the front desk clerk just checked us in as if there was nothing going on. We had to ask what was happening and then he nonchalantly told us that the sprinklers malfunctioned. Ok, we preceed. The first room had a window that would not close so we asked for another room. We found another room and went on up only to learn that the hot water was NOT working. Tried to use the phone to call down to the front desk. Dead. Took cold showers and headed down to the front desk. "Let it run for 10 minutes and then it will work.” Um, we let it run for 30 minutes and there was no hot water. Have you ever done a day of travel and looked forward to that hot shower? Yeah, that was us. Day two, still no hot water. Really? We went to talk to the front desk and they tell us that they are only authorized to give us $30 for our two days of no hot water. What? That was not acceptable and we said we needed $30 for both days! They told us because we booked through another website; they were not able to give us any more. We paid almost $190 for this hotel during Jazzfest and this hotel is really a $60/night hotel and I expect to have the bare minimums. I think the thing that really made me mad was that all this should have been communicated to all their guests, instead of letting us come down and complain, day after day. Did they think we weren’t going to notice the jet force fans that were trying to dry out the water damage, the lack of hot water, the phones being down or ¼ of the hotels carpets ripped out because of the damage? The staffs lack of caring really did shine through at this hotel and it’s the worse I have ever encountered. The carpets in the hallways are filthy and the walls are covered with smears of whatever. The ice machines were hit-n-miss and we would have to go floor-to-floor to find one that would work. The sink is in the room, so be prepared for that. We also had a tampon hanging from the sprinkler in our room. Was that put there to catch the falling water? Anyway you slice it this place is a dump and they could care less about your stay.

hotel was not very clean. The ice machine on our floor didn't work. Our tv in our room had obviously been dropped on the floor because it barely worked. The phone did not work in our room. Definitely would not recommend.

Dirty Hotel with Bedbugs and Mean Staff
This is a disreputable hotel that does not deserve to stay in business. It was the worst hotel experience of my life and I was only checked in for a few hours! My friends and I booked 3 rooms. Within hours of arrival, we found a live bedbug on one of the beds in my room. Upon further inspection, we found 2 more bedbugs on some articles of clothing we had hung in the closet. When we showed the man at the front desk the 3 bugs, which we'd put in a plastic bag, he was not at all surprised. We got out of there and moved to another hotel fast! We have been dealing with the horrors of booking this hotel ever since. I posted a review on another website to warn other people against staying here and the front desk manager, in bad English, accused us of bringing the bedbugs with us to get a free room! We have pictures and videos of the live bugs we found and of our bites. One of my friends has bites all over her body and had to go to a dermatologist today and missed work. Another friend, who is pregnant, was bitten all over her back. She had been staying in a room on a completely different floor. The worst part is, there are probably other people staying in our bedbug-infested rooms right now. On top of the bedbug infestation, the staff was extremely rude, there were cigarette holes in the sheets and bed spread, stained carpets, and hair from previous guests all over the bathroom and beds. Do not stay here under any circumstances.

BEWARE OF BEDBUGS!
My girlfriends and I chose to stay at the O'Keefe because of the great location and great price. Plus, it had a pool! We checked in (note they charge $20 for early check-in), and I promptly took an afternoon nap. The place seemed a little dirty, but I dealt with it given the great rate compared to other hotels in the area. After some of us napped in room 217, and others from our group enjoying the pool, we changed and spent the evening on the town. We returned just before midnight, ready to get a great night's sleep. Only, this time when I pulled the covers back, I noticed a tiny bug crawling on my sheet. I almost brushed it off. I am not afraid of a little insect. But I didn't recognize it so I asked my friend to help me identify it. She thought it might be a bedbug, so she emptied her ziploc that she had her liquids in and put the bug in the bag. We promptly googled images of bedbugs, and discovered it was a nymph (or very young bedbug). We went downstairs to complain. The attendant didn't seem very surprised about our situation and offered us another room. Though we really just wanted to leave the place, we agreed to check it out because it was late and we were tired. The only room they had available was 525, a smoking room. As soon as you step off the elevator onto the 5th floor, it reeks of smoke, and the hallway carpets have stains all over. We walked into the room, and though the smell wasn't that offensive, the dirtiness of the room was. The bedspread was stained and had cigarette holes in it. The ironing board that hangs on the wall was filthy with stains. I decided we needed to leave that night. When we went back to room 217 to pack our things, we discovered two more bedbugs on two separate items that were hung in the "closet." We promptly placed those in the ziploc bag as well. So now it's about 12:30, and we're calling a ton of hotels in New Orleans -- during a festival weekend -- to try to find accommodations for the same night. Not an easy feat, and certainly not the kind of trouble we would voluntarily go through just to "get a free room" as the manager surmised. Luckily, we found a room at the Dauphine Orleans, and it was a beautiful experience. The exact opposite of the O'Keefe in every way--especially the friendliness of the staff. Our other friends stayed in rooms 215 and 315. They were already asleep when we decided to leave, so they stayed the night there and left in the morning when they received our message. Luckily, our friends who stayed next door in room 215 didn't experience any bedbug trauma. However, both girls in room 317 (one was pregnant, the other was the bachelorette-guest-of-honor) woke up with bedbug bites, though they didn't actually see any bedbugs. Bedbug bites are distinguishable because they usually show up in clusters or a trail. The same bedbug bites you as it travels on your skin! EWWW! We had to spend much of the weekend cleaning out our clothes and suitcases, hunting down bedbug spray, and making sure we didn't track those nasty things the next place we went. The O'Keefe was a dirty nightmare. Check out the photos on this site. Go to YouTube and search "bedbugs o'keefe plaza hotel" for my video. And whatever you do, STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE!!

mean staff, dirty hotel, bed bugs
Stay here at your own risk. The staff were mean and argumentative from the moment we arrived; the rooms were dirty, with hair, stained carpets, and cigarette holes in the sheets; and worst of all, several of us were bitten up by bedbugs after only sleeping here one night. Splurge for a better hotel--it is not worth the cheaper price of staying here. We checked out early but it put a damper on our time in New Orleans. I'm also not sure why some of the other reviews are raving about the location. It is in kind of a seedy area with not much else around and the walk to the French Quarter from here is scary at night.

Horrible!!
DO NOT STAY HERE! This place is crawling with BEDBUGS!!! We found them in our bed and on our clothes within hours of our arrival. This is a seriously nasty hotel. The staff gave us the runaround when trying to get a refund and they were totally unapologetic (even after showing them a ziploc bag with the bugs in it). The place is filthy: the carpet and bedding are stained and there are cigarette burn holes in the sheets and hair from previous guests. Yuck!

Bit trashy, but you get what you pay for.
It was just a run down hotel. Perfect for our bachelor party. We got maybe the worst possible service from the day time desk clerk, but everybody else including the cleaning staff were really nice. The room was cleanish except that they had not been vacuumed in what looked like a month.
