A hidden Gem!

The location is perfect! A block from the T, and able to walk to Copley, BackBay, South End, and the Commons. All kinds of bars and great restaurants in the area. The hotel is a little dated, but it's clean and comfortable. Wifi doesn't really work in the rooms so that could be improved, but you can still easily use the business center. Ultimately an AMAZING value for your cash.

Location! Location! Location!

You literally walk out the front door, turn right, and you're at Copley Square/Trinity Church, which--for anyone who knows Boston--is the primo spot to be for vacation in the city. You're two blocks from Newbury Street and three blocks from the Public Gardens. That said, the hotel is a little on the old/shabby side. We did not get one of the remodeled rooms, but it was a typical hotel room in an older hotel. Really, I barely noticed its age: comfy bed after a long day, phenomenal water pressure in the shower, and a dependable heating/air system more than made up for the lack of a flat-screen TV. We had a lovely view of the skyline, and we had everything we needed. The staff was always friendly. And for a room that's less than $200/night in this location, you're getting a deal. Plus, we got a coupon for parking, which is prorated at $23/day. We got in Saturday afternoon around 3PM and left before 8AM on Tuesday, and ended up paying $57 for parking--a steal in Boston! Note: The hotel is a bit hidden. The door itself is unmarked, and there's just a tiny sign on the corner of the building. The entrance is directly across from the parking garage.

There's a Starbucks up one block at the corner of Dartmouth and a Dunkin' Donuts around the corner toward Clarendon if the continental breakfast isn't your thing.

90's Motel??

That's what it felt like. It was an Old and dingy. Location isn't everything. There are other hotels in the neighbourhood that are just as affordable and better value for money.

Excellent Back Bay location

The hotel is friendly and clean, but no frills. It's just fine for most purposes, without spending a bundle.

Basics for a good price.

Staff was very helpful and pleasant throughout my stay. Rooms are adequate, nothing special, but everything you need. Price for the location is fantastic. If you are attending a conference at or around Hynes Convention center, it is an easy 10 min walk and about half the cost of the bigger hotels. I would definitely stay here again.

a hidden gem

stayed at the John Hancock for a conference which was minutes away at the Hynes/Prudential/Copley complex. It's next door to a subway, parking garage, and minutes from Newbury and Boylston St. Walkable to everything. It's a funky old building, with granite and marble, real wooden doors, old tiled yet clean bathroom, friendly staff, and a fine continential breakfast. I don't need bells and whistles, but a comfortable room, and this fit the description!

Great Location and Service

The room was small and pretty basic but the location and price could not be beat. We stayed one night for a red sox game and for that, it was just perfect. The front desk was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is a nice addition and well stocked. Parking was super easy and not that expensive. I highly recommend this hotel for any boston traveler who likes a good deal and can overlook the superficial negatives.
