christmas weekend
My husband and I stayed at the Residence Inn Christmas Eve, the staff were very pleasant, the room was spotless . Our daugter brought chinese food to us, we had a lovely dinner with her in our suite. We would definately return to this hotel. We were able to walk into Old Port easily. Didn't feel we should have to pay extra for parking in a garage right next to hotel.

Overpriced horror story
A terrifying experience that has changed my loyalty to Marriott. We booked on [...]even though it was very expensive for a Residence Inn, but Portland was busy that weekend. Night desk clerk [...]was excessively rude upon check in, when we asked about parking and later when we called the front desk (very quietly) to ask where we could get some ice. For the latter transgression, he repeatedly called our room back at 1:30 am and threatened to have the police remove us from the hotel. Alternately, he would become very solicitous and offer to do whatever we requested. He berated us for booking on [...]because he hotel was supposed to be sold out, and said that he would ensure [...]could not do business with them again. I spent a sleepless night with the door barricaded by chairs. Aside from that, the hotel would have been acceptable for family on budget and with fairly low standards. Apparently incontinence is a problem at that hotel, as the mattress was wrapped in plastic and rattled when we turned over. The hotel should visit another garage sale to replace the squishy worn mattress and pillows. Free breakfast was decent, but extremely crowded so it was difficult to maneuver from bagels to the toaster. I used to favor Marriott properties as they were usually reliably clean, safe and had convenient fast breakfast, but this experience has convinced me to pay more for some comfort and decent service. We wondered if we were being tested for a reality show written by nearby author Steven King.

Excellent Stay
Beautiful hotel, clean, especially friendly staff. We stayed here for a girls shopping weekend. Its about 1/2 mile from Old Port shopping. You do have to pay to park 12$ night at the garage :( The rooms are excellent, full kitchens, plates cups, dishwashers, full size fridge. Very quiet, comfortable beds. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because it was a full hour after the 3 pm check in before our room was ready and we had to sit in the lobby with all our bags. (they could have offered free parking or something for the inconvenience)

a great hotel/experience
The hotel was clean adn modern, the room was spacious and beautiful, and the staff could not have been more accomadating to us. The front desk staff gave direction, a friendly hello, set up transportation and gave restaurant advise that locals would know and all tourists needed. The fire side bar, the pool area and the short walk to multiple restaurants made this a hotel I will go to again.

can't rave enough!
We wanted a waterfront location close to the center of town and this was certainly it! There were some places we wanted to go that wecouldn't walk to. The shuttle van was usually available to take us and bring us back at no charge - merely a tip to the driver. There was no need to rent a car. We knew breakfasts were provided but had no idea they would be so sumptious with all the many choices. We had no idea dinner was available at no charge on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. That was a VERY PLEASANT SURPRISE, although there are literally TONS of very good restaurants in Portland. This was probably one of the best trips we've taken lately.

Short walk from hotel
We are sailors and were interested in doing sailing trips and taking the ferry to Peaks Island. This hotel was a short walk to the docks.
