Americas Best Value Inn and Suites Benton Harbor

Front desk staff were very nice and efficient. We stayed 1 night here for a race. There were many other athletes staying here as well. Morning checkout was very fast, which was helpful to all who needed to leave early and quickly.

Stayed for a night before triathlon race. Only hotel available due to late reservation.

I stayed at this place for a race that I was doing in Benton Harbor. It is completely run down, dirty, in a less than great neighborhood. The worst part about it is that we asked for a non smoking room (because we are athletes) and they told us that all rooms are non smoking by law. The room where we stayed was on a former smoking floor and it was awful. Everything reeked of stale smoke. Just an awful place. Do not stay here; camping would be better!

Unfortunately, we believed a 2/2010 review and that it listed as a 3 Star Hotel. We are glad we brought our own sheets and pillows. We are sure the cleaning staff did their best w/what they had to work with. We made sure to spend most of our time outside of the hotel and at Silver Beach. We will not be returning to this the HJ, Benton Harbor.

Returned from Fireworks about midnight Found entire ceiling leaking from the unit above drenching our clothes, suitcase, pill boxes, and shaving kit. No one was around to stop leak which also drenched bed, chairs and carpet from entrance to door wall. We WERE supplied with another room and spent the next hour moving and laying out our wet clothes. The manager offered to wash & dry our clothes but had to get the leak fixed first. Morning clerk said they would contact our booking company to see about a rebate. Note: room we were moved to had visible bugs on the furniture and bed. Staff was mostly nice but was not sure what to do

WEB SITE FOR HJ SAID THERE WAS RESTAURANT AND THERE HAS NOT BEEN FOR SEVERAL YEARS. POOL CLOSED INDEFINITELY. ROOM FURNITURE USED HARD AND OLD. TOWELS WERE OLD WITHOUT NAP ON THEM. ONLY ONE WASHCLOTH IN KING ROOM. HALLWAYS DARK. BATHROOM GROUT HAD MOLD. LOBBY WAS VERY DARK AND DISMAL. PERSON AT DESK WAS NOT AT ALL HELPFUL AND WOULD DO NOTHING TO HELP IN CANCELLATION OF ROOM EVEN THOUGH WE ARRIVED BEFORE 6 P.M. WAS NOT WHAT ADVERTISEMENT SAID IT WAS! OLD MOTEL THAT HAS BEEN REMODLED BUT NOT DONE WELL AT ALL.

This hotel was not really all that bad.. but just very run down. The walls and ceilings had black spots and cracks. There was nothing specificly dirty about it, other than the walls (I was concerned that maybe it was mold).. but it just had the overall feeling of cheapness and run down look. For anyone who has kids or wants to have a party or family get together, this would be a great place. The indoor pool area is HUGE... so much room for kids to run around and have fun. The pool is quite large, as is the hot tub (too bad the hot tub was out of order when I was there). I imagine if I was a kid, I would think that hotel is Heaven on earth. This hotel is far from the lake, but extremely close to the interstate.. not too nice of an area and definitely should not be included in the romantic atmosphere that Bentor Harbor and St. Joseph are rumored to have.
