We've got a way to go...

The intent is there but all sorts of little things don't work yet - hot water takes forever to come up, no glasses in the room, no vending machines in the hall, no coffee shop, spectacular work out facility but two-three blocks away, no screens for the windows (a/c hadn't been turned on yet), etc.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Midtown Detroit is coming back but it will take awhile. However, certain facilities grace the neighborhood - the William Clay Ford Athletic Medicine facility is wonderful. It has not only great equipment but also technicians to help you focus on good health.

to fancy for hotel

The hotel lobby and inside was nice.. the room had its nicks and cracks but overall was a nice room. loved that we had a window that slid open to view a state building was nice to have that. no fridge or ice machine.. and no parking. had to pay 21 dollars to park and have valet do it. plus a tip. should have spent the 20 i spent on parking for a closer to down town hotel room.. we left the window open as it was a nice night and were awoke to a lot of yelling. however comfy bed and liked that it had a dvd player in room.

basic stay

The rooms were very nice. The hot water nor the iron worked in the first room they assisned to us. They switched us to another room that had no iron at all. the switch took about an half hour and the iron took another 20mins. The customer service there is terrible. but the beds are comfortable and the rooms are nice.

Not so good

Not being from Detroit, didn't know that hotel was a weekend social club. People were partying all night in the halls and elevators. Still going at 5am. Room was dirty. especially the bathroom. Elevators were full of food containers. Was not a good experience over all.

Worst Hotel ever

The hotel was the worst I have ever experienced. No towels in the room, the towels they did give were stained,no iron but an iron rack and board was there there was a coffee maker no coffee pot or cups, no free shuttle to arpt thats a lie, mold in the tub also tub was dirty, mold in the ceiling, routy guest police had to be called, very loud music could not sleep heat broken stayed on continously had to sleep with open window the whole stay, dirty and infectious toilet paper was left in the room for my use. No ice machine had to go to lobby each time.

Better than expected!

I had red the reviews and expected the worst. But, hey, with a winter deal at $32 per night what is to be expected? The hotel was very quiet, not too many guests in that freezing time of the year. Yes the soap bar and the cups were missing, yes we had a false fire alarm, but apart from that it was clean and highly recommendable.

Try Coach Insignia at Renaissance Center (GM tower). The steack was excellent, a little pricey ($45), but the view is unique!

Only worth it for the location

I only stayed for the night, and more as an experiment than out of need. Here are the results: *Voices and clatter in the corridor all night (repair men? Other guests? It was a sunday night, so I don't think it was a party) Could really use a "Family Floor" that is quiet. *No soap in the bathroom. There was lotion and shampoo, but no soap or body wash. The products that were there looked used, certainly not sealed. I wouldn't trust them. *Coffee maker, but no cups, mugs, or even a carafe to catch the coffee (coffee maker was the no-bowl type where you have to use your own mug) *No clock, so no alarm. No stereo, no cd player, no mp3 player. I didn't even check the tv/dvd, though it looked intact. *No thermostat in the room, and the front desk wasn't able to adjust individual room temperatures. (We were freezing!) *Staff was RUDE. Clerk was cold and distant, and answered my questions reluctantly, as though I was bothering her. Didn't have (or wasn't willing to share) any information on the surrounding neighborhood. *PARKING WAS AN ADDITIONAL CHARGE PER NIGHT!! This wasn't mentioned on the web site or during the booking. Overall, I'm not impressed. This is supposed to be a "Luxury" hotel? I wouldn't put my in-laws in this hotel. I usually dislike chains, but I would recommend a basic Motel 6 over this "luxury" hotel.

Our Stay at the St. Regis Detroit

There were quite a few things at the St. Regis hotel that made this out least favorite stay. 1. The hotel looked very rundown. 2. The Valet -You had to wait for someone to show up or go find someone yourself. Their uniforms did not look professional, they were oversized, sloppy and some of the attendants' pants were sagging. 3. The desk attendants were so nonchalant and their tone was dry. Not friendly or welcoming. 4. You had to go to the front desk so the unfriendly attendant could get you ice after making you feel as though you were bothering them. 5. We were by an elevator and next door to teenagers, so you can imagine the noise level for the night. 6. There were no things to do or restaurant information in the room, not even yellow pages. There was no room service, vending or pop machines no microwave or fridge you could use and the only close place to eat were a Popeye's and White Castles. There was coffee in the room but no coffee pot. 7. There was no holder for the tissue, so it was just sitting on the sink, the tub was stained and the stopper was broken. 8. The elevator was really slow so I decided to take the stairs, bad decision. The stairway first of all smelled, it reminded me of a stairwell from a scary movie trash included. At one level there were different doors and cleaning equipment everywhere I thought I was in the janitor's closet. 9. There was lights out in the bathroom. One of the lamps and one of the telephones did not work also there was no clock in the room. Then the security lock was loose liked it had been tampered with. 10. The one good thing we did like was they let you check in early if rooms are available and the checkout was quick. This hotel just was not for us.
