Worst hotel ever!

Definitely my worst hotel experience ever. Knew the hotel looked a little sketchy when I was booking it. Had no idea it would be as bad as it was. Hotel manager tried to scam an extra $20 for having a 3rd person with us. First room we were given had fresh blood stains on the sheets. We were given a different room but it wasn't much better. Definitely pay the $20 or $30 more to stay in a better hotel!

Not a place to stay with the kids.

Hourly rates were posted in the lobby (enough said). $5 key deposit, I did get it back. Not a place you want to stay if your bringing the kids. It is nicely located between 2 casinos so if you want cheap place to store your stuff while spending most of your time at motorcity or MGM go for it.

Worst experience of my life!

We didn't believe the reviews at first - until we got to the "motel" - then we understood why it had been given such terrible reviews by other travelers. Taxi drivers refused to come into the parking lot and told us not to stay there. The police told us not to stay there. We complained to the management about the dirty rooms (there was more trash under the bed than in most dumpsters - soda cans, trash, douches, drug use items etc...). The hotel offered hourly rates for prostitutes. We told the travel website we used about the problem and they said there was nothing they could do so we had to pay the full amount for the entire 4 days for 2 rooms that we stayed in for only 5 hours! We lent the key to a friend who had no where to stay but the manager had re-rented the room even though we had paid for it for the full 4 days! The travel website took the manager's word for the incident over us! The toilets didn't flush completely, the showers backed up, the ceilings were stained, the windows were sealed, the rooms were dirty, the whole experience was unbelievable. The perceived savings will cost you way more than you could ever imagine! Stay far away from this hotel - I can't believe any travel website would even list this hotel!

Angelina Italian Bistro was a great restaurant. The Corktown Inn was an amazing difference from the Viking motel for a little more money.

Good location-Not so good accomadations

The Viking Motel we thought would be a good deal. We like to visit different casinos. The hotel was located between the 2 we wanted to visit in Detroit and was very easy to get to. We thought it was worth the convenience. We checked in around 5:00 pm after spending several hours at the casinos plus the 3 hour drive there. Checking in was fine and was even escorted to our room by the manager to our room. We didn't even have to use our hotel key. When we got into the room, it was freezing. They never bothered to turn on the heat to warm up the room prior to our arrival. Between the manager and the service maid, The heat was finally turned on and working. This took about 15 minutes. Finally we had some heat and thought we would be OK. We ordered pizza delivered to our room and when it arrived at 6:15, our room was still cold. We ate near the heater where we could feel the heat. We could watch TV, but had to do it manually because the remote control didn't work. That was not a big issue. We didn't call the office about the heat because the phone didn't work. We didn't get to shower that night because the bathroom was cold and the floor felt like walking on ice. We went to bed at night tucked under the covers. The room finally warmed up when we woke up around midnight. We fell back asleep and got up at 4:30 and headed for home. We would not recommend this hotel.
