A howling experience
This hotel allows people to bring their pets. I was not informed that they had a dog in the room adjacent to my room. The pet owners went out to dinner and left the dog, which howled for 3 hours. I went to lobby to read and could still hear the dog howling. I feel there should be specific rooms for visitors who bring their pets so others do not have to be disterbed. Also I do not like the idea of being in a room that may have had any pet in there the night before.

Short school visit
We spent just two days in Duluth so my son could visit St. Scholastica and check out appartments. The Fairfield Inn was in the perfect location for our trips to the school,downtown for dinner, and various visits to several appartments. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff was extremely pleasant.

Try Fitgers Brewhouse downtown. Very good food(mostly sandwiches) and great beer!

Just for the night
Pretty standard hotel. But I feel that it was a tad overpriced for what you got. We've stayed in similar hotels for 1/2 the price before. Seems like they raised the price for the pool/jacuzzi which we didn't use.

Standard Fairfield Property with Good Free Breakfast
This is your standard Fairfield property. The staff was cheerful and friendly at check-in. The room was clean upon arrival and daily maid service was good. The best part of our stay was the included free daily breakfast. The selection was excellent with 2 belgian waffle makers, hot and cold cereal, coffee, tea, juices etc. A free breakfast for four saves some dollars, which makes the Fairfield a good value.

Affordable and Friendly
The hotel is clean and the staff is always very friendly. We've stayed there twice now and I think we'll be there again.

Check out the Lake Avenue Cafe near canal park. Easy to get to and a local feel. Great food, good service and a good atmosphere.

Expected more from the Marriott name
Tight quarters in the bathroom. The door opened into the bathroom and blocked access to the shower and came too close to the toilet. The bathroom reeked of old urine. The halway noise was extreme and everthing occurring in the rooms above could be heard. Couldn't understand how a hotel less than15 years old looked so outdated (i.e. linens and decor).

The only positive thing about the hotel is the location. It's only a short walk (2- 3 blocks) to the Miller Hill Mall, so lots of access to dining, shopping, and entertainment.

Nice place with good breakfast
The staff was nice (made sure that we had a room away from the large group of kids staying there). Good breakfast in the morning including waffle makers. The room was clean with what seemed like a decent bed, although my back certainly disagreed in the morning (and I'm only 24).

Short drive from hotel
My husband and I were in Duluth around Christmas and stumbled up on the Bentleyville "Tour of Lights" along the shore of Lake Superior at Bayfront Festival Park. It's a free light festival ($5 to park) with a ice skating pond, free hot chocolate, cookies, popcorn and marshmellow roasting. Santa & Mrs. Claus visits, Christmas music and of course tons of amazing lights. We don't have kids yet, but I still loved it!
