Good Helena Choice

The Colonial used to be the best place in Helena to stay. It is now one of many second tier choices. The restaurant has a good breakfast buffet, and a great Sunday brunch. The rooms are comfortable. The two pools are average. The overall value and impression of the hotel is average.

Good Experience

Location was close to the only pediatric Dentist in this area of Montana and the room was a perfect recovery refuge after my Granddaughter's procedure. Thanks!

Very nice

Just a short 2 day road trip for fun. We had not been in that part of Montana and wanted to see it. The hotel was clean and nice for the price. Everyone was courteous and helpful.

weekend trip

The hotel was within proximity to everything we needed and the staff was very friendly. The rooms were cleaned nicely and quite early in the day. All in all, enjoyed the hotel. We thought that the fitness room was subpar and the weekend buffet was less than desirable, but the food off the menu was good (if they are serving off the menu).

Pleasant Surprise

The Red Lion Colonial is a nice place to stay in Helena. It is conveniently located near the capital and other downtown locations. The staff was friendly and helpful. The shower head in the bathroom is very low and I had to duck to get my hair wet.

Sorry - This place isn't it

First, we discovered that the in-house restaurant closes at 1pm on Sunday. There was no room service Sunday night either. Other hotels do this, but I hate it. Second, we found our room had not been vacuumed very well because we found dried food on the carpet. The bathroom was not hotel-clean either. My wife noticed a small amount of mold in the bathroom. Third, the hotel left bottles of water in the room. Ordinarily, that's a good thing... except that each bottle cost $2 (to be added to the bill). To be fair - they DID put a card on the bottle explaining this (the cost was at the bottom of the text) - but I've never before seen this approach to selling bottled water. When you're thirsty, who reads the fine print? Fourth, if you want to use the indoor pool or (small) exercise room, you will have to walk through a medium-sized conference/dining room. No kidding. There is a waist-high half wall on the left side to channel you to the back of the room and keep your towel from touching the place settings, but you are still in the same room. Swimmers will undoubtedly feel self concious and business meeting participants will undoubtedly be distracted by bikinis and sweaty exercisers... Fifth, the 2nd floor level changes an inch or so when you go from one of the wings to the main building. The carpet does not give you a good visual cue and you should be careful not to trip. None of these things made the visit horrible, but their cumulative effect made me not want to go back.
