BROOKWOOD INN

The front desk is so-so, not friendly, but OK. The problem is that my room actually was in a separate building which did not have any front desk. The biggest problem is the room has strong smoke smell even though it is a non-smoking room. The internet connection was interrupted frequently. Front desk could not help me on that. No shampoo the first night until I asked for it the next night. Somewhat disappointed with the service comparing to the price tag.

Stayed one night. Efficient check in and out. Room was fine.

We were only there for one night, but our interactions with the staff were memorable...unfortunately its because they were just awful people. The ogres at the front desk barely acknowledged our presence at check in, literally tossing our paperwork and parking pass at us without a word spoken. Check out was just as off-putting. When one is horrible to look at, one should strive to at least have a pleasant interaction, especially with a paying customer. The room was nothing special, but can't really complain...it was clean. Customer service may not matter to some people, but I left this hotel feeling angry and disrespected; I will NEVER stay here again.

I picked this hotel because of the location, and in this respect it delivered. It is literally across the street from Duke's campus. Otherwise, it was not impressive. The rooms were dark and old. The restaurant had very limited hours, and the food was really heavy. It reminded me of a motel from the 1980s.

Great Staff - very hospitable. Nice to have a restaurant downstairs. They also have a business lounge and free wifi.

Nice hotel, comfortable, nice small breakfast place. Close to Duke University. I would stay here again.

Construction going on on the same floor as my room and all over the hotel. Room not clean! Carpet was probably not cleaned in ages! Actually checked out early because stay was not comfortable. Night guy at the desk took 45 minutes to check me out and couldn't give me a receipt!

OK. Went to Duke graduation ceremonies. When I checked in, no one at the desk told me that the hotel had a computer room, fitness center etc. Could have been more informative. I didn't know of these things until the last day. Staff people were OK - not overly friendly.

I was in town for an interview,so my stay was strictly for business. My room was on the 8th (top) floor and it faced the the helicopter pad that services the Duke hospital. It was neat to see the helicopter come and go at random hours of the day, but it did make for a slightly noisy stay. The staff at the Brookwood Inn are friendly, but they don't outwardly ask you if you need assistance; even when you look as if you do. You have to approach them with an inquiry, and sometimes it takes more than just approaching the service desk. Otherwise, the rooms were nice, clean, and spacious. I would suggest a stay here if your in town to do business at the Duke hospital or the VA hospital because it very close to both (as in across the street). The shuttle service is also very convenient for those of you who need to get to any one of Duke's campuses.
